Is anyone else annoyed by this?

I wonder how long it will take Verizon to catch up on the back orders....

Will they ever have this phone in stock??

As much as I hate to say it, I bet that once Droid X comes out the orders for the DINC will slow down and they will be able to catch up.

People looking to upgrade right now will have to decide between getting the X on July 15th or getting the DINC in early Aug. Seeing as how we live in an instant gratification society I am guessing that people will start choosing the X simply to have it sooner.

I am not saying either phone is really better than the other because honestly, they both have pro's and con's that outweigh each other.

So I think that the influx of sales for the X coupled with the screen switch on the DINC means that HTC will start catching up in a month or so. Once both phones are available to customers immediately I imagine the sales will be pretty even. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I don't know. I foresee many people NOT wanting it because of its size. The amoled screen is also supposed to be superior. The Sense UI is appealing to many. You never know!

still hard to understand how vzw/htc contracting did not have amoled screen lock-in with samsung.
lost Dinc sales, lost contract extensions, lost data plans = BIG money lost

They did have a contract for the screens. The problem is, they underestimated just how popular this phone would be and now need more screens than they contracted for in order to keep up. I am sure they begged for more screens from Samsung but wasn't able to get them. They are (wisely I might add) keeping their extra screens for their own phones.

This really isn't anyone's "fault". Verizon is just the seller, they don't make the phones so they have nothing to do with production. HTC contracted the materials for the amount that they believed they would need with no way of knowing they would need way more than that. Samsung is being smart and keeping their extra inventory for their own phones. At the end of the day, as long as Samsung keeps up with the production that they were scheduled to provide there are not at all obligated to go beyond that.

Oh I agree with you! I think that there will be many people who would prefer to have the DINC for size and aesthetics. I just think that for now, availability will be a big deciding factor. When people want something, they want it now. Not later.

I am also not all that confident that the average user will know the real differences between LCD and AMOLED. If anything, LCD is a name that they are very used to hearing and without research they will assume it's the latest and greatest.

Maybe I have just spent way too many years in tech support to have any confidence left in people. After explaining to the hundredth person that turning off the monitor does not turn off the computer too, I have given up!

Just a couple of weeks ago I got a call from a friend freaking out because her computer was under attack. I asked what she meant. She proceeded to tell me that she received a message on her screen from "someone named Norton" telling her that "someone named Cookie" was attacking...

/facepalm

Here's the deal. Motorola is sub par. It has been sub par for some time. They are only starting to turn things around. The Incredible will continue to outsell the "X" because of that. Further, I live near the Motorola headquarters so I know a lot of Motorola people. The energy and resources go to the GSM phones. CDMA is the redheaded stepchild at Motorola. The best talent and resources go to GSM.

So, I'm with HTC.

I personally never cared for Motorola phones really. Haven't had good experiences.

But I have to admit, they are smart to put their efforts into GSM over CDMA. If I had a cell phone company I would do that, too.

Fact!

Verizon's smart phone selection has been sub-par up until 2009.

Now they are on a ROLL and I think everyone's pretty happy about that.

Never before would you see users already wanting to upgrade after 30 days of owning a top of the line smart phone in the Verizon world.

Am I wrong?

:)

Totally agree. Before Android, I always said that Verizon had the best network with the worst phones in the industry! :D

I guess HTC thought that the Incredible would sell like the Eris :p

Just checked out Verizonwireless.com and now says Inc has a ship by date of 8/3. Man this is killing me.

I just now checked Amazon for the availability of the Incredible for my zip code, assuming that I wanted to renew my contract. Amazon says DInc will be in stock by tomorrow, July 5, and includes free 2-day shipping and an Amazon discount.

Of course, availability depends on your zip code. You could check out Amazon, and if it's available, put your order there, get your phone and cancel your Vzw order...

If Amazon would match the price Verizon gave me I would. With Verizon I paid $199.99 and got a $100 rebate, making it $99.99. If I switch to Amazon I have to pay more. And right now, my wallet beats my patience :)

The supply issue for the Incredible is a HUGE problem in my opinion. The squeaky wheel gets the oil as they say...the bigger the installed user base is for the phone the more resources and support that will go towards making the firmware’s better, making customized apps, making accessory's cheaper etc. The phone will continue to be great either way but, the more users the phone has the better it is for everyone using it.

As far as HTC goes it's a small company and as stated in the above posts they rely on Samsung for the screens. (they are going to start using super LCD's on other phones) So, they are handcuffed on their ability to meet the demand. HTC is growing due mainly to the Android OS and should continue to be a great company going forward. On the other hand, no one can be sure of how they will handle the success and there growing responsibility to the user base.

When this phone came out it was the undeniable stat king of the Android OS but, finally we are seeing the EVO and more importantly Droid X stepping into the fray. All three of these phones are well worth your attention especially the Droid X and Incredible due to superior carrier. Motorola was on the verge of splitting up the entire company until the Droid came out. Since then the Moto Droid has enjoyed huge success with very little problems. The phones build quality is stable, reliable and lacks any major common issues. I expect Motorola to be a little more skilled than HTC at supporting their products and more importantly getting firmware’s out in a timely manner due to their past success. Android is Motorola's life line after all and I look for them to nurture it and throw the best they got at it.

Also, I am an American and have decided that in addition to appreciating Motorola's current quality standards, I will also being buying Moto products from a patriotic standpoint. :)

The difference in Moto n HTC is not huge and the battle between the two phones is very equal. Really it's a win, win for any users getting there hardware but, If I was still waiting for an Incredible right now, I would certainly cancel my order and get a Droid X. Let’s not forget brothers and sisters we are allies with a common enemy APPLE! LoL

Well Milenkos, that was a very well thought out and worded post. It's great to see people support a phone without completely bashing another. Like you said, the real fight is Android vs. Apple. NOT Moto vs. HTC vs. Samsung vs. whoever else.

I do agree with your point about Motorola being able to support their phones better, at least at the moment. They have a lot more experience under their belt, and a lot more cash to throw into devoloping. And of course, it's always nice to buy American when you can.

But I have to disagree that they are the "best quality" phones out there. I wrote them off years ago after having major problems with their build quality and software. Vowed to never own another and it's a vow I am keeping.

As for the Moto Droid, I will admit that it sort of lead the way for the Android phones. For that I appreciate Motorola. But I completely disagree that there are not some serious problems with that phone, even "common problems". I know a total of 7 people with that phone and only one is still satified with it. The other 6 have either upgraded or will be very soon. The low memory error and SMS message wipes seem to be a very common problem if you look at any of the forums for their phone. Each of my 7 friends have experienced it to varying degree's.

I don't think they are a terrible company, I really don't. They are just not for me. For what it's worth, my fiance had the Razr for years and never really had a problem with it. I am just holding a grudge over past problems and from what I have personally seen, problems they haven't overcome. And I simply don't care for the look/design of their phones.

Do I expect Moto phones to get more updates than HTC? Yep. Do I expect them to get Froyo before HTC? Yes again. Is that enough reason to switch to the X or even the Droid 2 whenever it comes out later this summer? Nope, not for me!

Although Moto will have to start paying more attention to their CDMA part. Verizon owns the Droid trade mark. And Moto as a company is depending on these phones to make them. So sure, I expect better support from them cause they need it.

This is another good point. CDMA is basically an afterthought for Motorola. They are slowly overcoming this but for right now, it's still true.

As Android becomes more and more popular (it already kicked Apple's butt this year) that will start to change.
