Almost correct. Xerox gave the gui, (a mouse) to both microsoft and apple at the same time. They developed at the same time. Microsoft obviously did a better job... I mean... a one button mouse? Annoying .........

Yeah, classic Apple dumbing down. If there's only one button you can't press the wrong one.

Both Apple and IBM took the GUI to market, Apple with the MAC/Lisa OS, and IBM with OS2. Windows was just a pimple on Gate's butt at that point.
You're right that Xerox developed the first GUI call the PARC System and their Xerox 8010 Star Information System was the first real workstation with a gui.
