Is Facebook Evil?

I read everyone complaining about how evil Fb is yet most of you continue to log in. I read everyone complaining about not being able to uninstall Fb mobile and dogging Fb for it, yet Fb doesn't make mobile phones so why not dog on Samsung, HTC, ect.... For it?

Maybe we should dog on Samsung, HTC, etc, and the carriers, for accepting FB's dollars in return for bundling their app. Which is so often can't be removed, not without rooting. It's not just FB, some carrier's phones seem to come with a hell of a lot of junk. We've had quite a few times here things like, how do I remove this useless NASCAR app on my new Sprint phone? And I've had to deal with phones loaded with Facebook, that came from 3 in Hong Kong.

I get that privacy is important, but most of the people complaining about Fb mining there data don't seem to mind Google doing it.....

Privacy is important to me, Anything I want private, I just don't put it on the internet or store it in cloud. I'm sure there's many concerned about Google's privacy and data mining. The US and EU governments have been very interested in that as well.

BTW I do use social networking(WeChat and QQ, both Chinese), but I'm always very careful about what I put on them, and I'm happy for all to see it.

Don't think Facebook is really invasion of privacy, the whole premise and their entire business model is for people to be social and to share things. If one is not happy to do that, then don't use FB. And if one does use it, be very careful about what one shares on there for the whole world to see. Employers often check FB when screening and vetting job applicants.

If that were the case everyone should have the option to install and uninstall Facebook like they used to be able in the old days. They also should have the ability to block Facebook from accessing personal sms messages, call logs and emails along with other other account info from our smartphone. It is not just a social network application but an application that makes you accept its terms to steal personal info from your smartphone in order for it to work or function.

It makes you do nothing though.. you have to agree for it to do these things in return for using its "free" service.

I agree that if phone manufacturers are being payed to include facebook as a system app then thats wrong but (i honestly dont know) what if its vice versa?

Anyway you can remove any sync account from your device so if you dont wana use fb's services, you can easily make sure they dont use yours

That's the thing, no one is forcing people to sign-up/login and use FB, it is voluntary. :D And we do agree to their TOS(which we often don't read) in return for using their "free" services.

Almost certainly there's money changing hands and partnerships etc. It's the carriers doing the pre-installed junk. Like NASCAR apps on Sprint phones, etc, I know we've had quite a few posts about that one. Vodafone was doing a lot of stuff with Man. United :puke:, with pre-installed junk on some of their phones. Phones from 3 in Hong Kong have Facebook installed. And China Mobile puts all kinds of crap on their own TD-SCDMA handsets. Manufacturers will customise phones to whatever a carrier requires, the notable exception is Apple I think. AFAIK most phones are sold by carriers, rather than independants.

lol exactly what i meant bro. If you agree to it and want its services, you cant start complaining once youre addicted to these services then make yourself a hat of tinfoil and moan about it :)

Another way to think of it is, in my country anyway, a warrant can be granted to get call, sms etc, even location data from a phone carrier so i dont see why its such a shock to fb users and in the same way, noone is interested in what we say/write unless we're doing something of interest/really dangerous to others :)

It's a PITA. But when it's the only way to get to a busy relative ---

I'm the mind your own business type. I'd never post anything personal. But if you can make something out of a picture of a huge bullfrog with the title "Jeremiah" you have more imagination than anyone I've ever met.
(BTW - no exif info on photos)

I only use it on the pc, the phone is rooted and it's gone. I used to disable Twitter and only enable it if I wanted to post. Used Titanium and froze it.

Ja...

I think these crazy agreements are insane really and I think it depends on how much crazyness or what the crazyness is in their terms and conditions.

I agree with you guys 500%.

The vast and extreme majority most probably or more than likely don't even read those 50000 gazillion odd pages of lawyer baloney.

I have got a bad feeling they more than likely do it on purpose but maybe that is my strange point of view.

I know 99% of the time they are just trying to cover their hides if some does something el stupido.

I think they try to protect their software (which is their right and rightfully so.)

But if there was anything like the following agreement on their "License Terms and blaah blaah alalala blaah blah" that says something like this:

According to the very long and boring previous monkey business baloney of of terms and conditions under clause 4.1:

DO YOU AGREE TO LET US SHOOT YOU IN THE FACE 400 TIMES AND NOT LET THE "RATIONAL" LAW TAKES IT COURSE AND TAKE US TO JAIL LIKE IT SHOULD???

Do you agree to let us shoot you in the face?

YES / NO
No matter what you agree to it really has got to fall into general rational laws that pretty much everyone else follows.

I mean if you say "YES" to that because you find it hilarious like me and the bunch that wrote that agreement come up to you and shoot you 400 times in the face they are just going to go straight to either:

A) JAIL (but maybe electric chair if the country is crazy)

or

B) Asylum / The Home Of The CrAzY People.

I mean they can say what ever they want to but it has really got to be with in reason and not just crazy.

But hey what do I know! :D

I am just a soon to be Hobo Joe ek se! :)

I made a fake facebook account just to log into things like games and stuff. I'm not that social...

Hell ja dude!

I totally agree! :)

I think that is just great that some people are like that and to me I love a diverse world is the best world. Always.

If you like being that way then you must do what makes you happy.

I couldn't handle when I 1st signed up to facebook like 5 or 7 years ago or what ever it was and I got a massive flood of like a BAZZILLION friends requests of people I had never even heard of before!

For goodness sakes why can't I just talk to my 4 (sometimes 3 ;)) friends instead of being nagged and then feel like I don't want to be your friend but it is nothing personal to him / her but just the sometimes hard fact for others to understand that I don't know who you are and I prefer to just keep a few very close good friends.

If I know who you are then no worries!! :D

And also the fact that I got very... bored! :D

It was annoying as trying to pronounce this crazy insane word here:

I agree. But did mark Zuckerberg have good intentions when he created facebook?

Not really. According to want I read, Zucketberg was paid by clubs at the university he was attending to create a social networking program. He then realized how big the social network could become, ditched the university, and went corporate with the program.

The university clubs never got the program they paid for.

Also, Zucketberg is a socialist. That is the main reason it OS so difficult to lock-down Facebook accounts. According to what I have read, Zucketberg believes that everyone should be able to know everything about everyone.

What if we do not even want their free services? In the past we had the simple uninstall option available and now with advanced technology we went from having an uninstall option to having a disable option. WTF:confused: The permissions though I am quite sure remain active as you can still see them at the bottom. Even though you did not choose to sync contacts with Facebook you will find that if you open Facebook that Facebook will already have accessed your contacts and Facebook permission give Facebook the right to modify toggle/sync permissions.

In the past, you had to root the damn phone to get rid of it. Just as recent as the SGS4G using Gingerbread. I had an European Galaxy Apollo that had FB built in and no way to disable it.

I just look at the kid's moggie pics. She forgets to upload to dropbox. I'll usually post a reminder for her to look for my cats' pics and videos in Dropbox.

I totally agree with you.

It is beyond disgusting that they keep your personal data and some say people say that nobody knows if they "keep" your personal data until the end of days.

They should be sued into the Stone Age for being so ******* immoral.

It is the same thing with the "great" American Gubbermints spying on the entire world through the internet.

They have yet and more than likely will never apologise for that.

They are just "too awesome" to say sorry and stop spying on people.

This freaking **** (and I don't care if I swear because that is exactly what this is here) seriously needs to stop.

I can't believe since the man many years loooong ago up to today I went onto the internet to search random stuff has been freaking SPIED on by some ******* American Gubberment.

Who the **** do they think they are?

I am not a "criminal" at all.

I hate criminals too but where is my freaking right to privacy here?

They say that Google also just stores your search history until the end of time?

At least Bing deletes it (at least that is what these freaks and jerks claim) after 6 months but maybe they also just keep your stuff until the end of time.

Microsoft pledges to delete Bing user data after six months - Telegraph

Who the **** do these people think they are?

For Gods sakes.

No moral compass what so ever.

They have no right to do this.

So yes... facebook is very evil and should just fix this bull dust.

I am glad I deleted my account years ago but I don't even know if they really deleted all of my personal data or did they just keep it for "safe keeping"?????

Dodgy stuff.

If you don't want to use the app then don't Iog in..... Then you don't have to worry about it.
I do agree that everyone should have the option to keep or uninstall the app, but if you never use it to begin with you don't have to worry about it.

One would think so but if one can not even uninstall it and they have permissions to act as account manager and toggle/sync accounts then one can only wonder what their motives really are.

What we really need is a Smartphone with two separate flash drives on it.
What would be very nice to see is if manufacturers would manufacture a smartphone with two flash drives in them of which are separate and basically runs like Parallels on a Macbook. Flash A can not access flash B and Flash B can not access Flash A. They would need to be heavily and securely encrypted. One could have call logs, emails, sms messages, pictures and contacts on Flash A and downloaded applications go on to Flash B. Then they can have access to anything that they want on Flash B of which has nothing on there but other applications They could also look at contacts of which there are none accept of ones of which you choose to add manually. If they can make a smartphone run with 2 sim cards and Samsung can make a smartphone run with Windows and Google OS (coming up) then they make one like I had said.

That is the general consensus. But on GB you had to finagle to get FB from searching for contacts whether you enabled it or not. That was probably a carrier's spec. Look back in this forum for posts about FB using data.

There are still some users with GB.

Fora are more to the point.

The Number Facebook Doesn't Want You To See

I agree. I only look at kid's page to keep track of her moggies. (She emails other personal)
Looking at all these people that might be friends - I'd love a get lost button. I ain't interested, don't want you for a friend, and I don't care if you are interested in what I do. I don't post it.

Reminds me of all the old biddies on a quilting forum - "and what does your dear husband do?" None of your business and he's NOT dear husband. DH is an obscenity for PITA or in his case - Vulcan
