Root Is it possible to have a different system font?

Is it possible to change the system font? I like the font that the Samsung Galaxy S3 has and I was wondering how hard it would be to change the system font to be something like that.

It isn't entirely that hard, although you could through rom manager, but we're not even getting on that subject.

Find the font you want, rename it "DroidSans.ttf", then using a root browser, navigate to the system folder, fonts, and find the "DroidSans.ttf" that's already in the folder and back it up to your pc, drop box, or what you use to back up that's not your phone.

Don't forget to nand before doing this in case something goes wrong.

Replace the new DroidSans.ttf with the old.

Why do I have to back it up to a PC? But what about the rom manager method? Ive never heard of it.

You can't backup a.tff file with titanium or any backup program. Plus it's safe to load a second on a computer or drop box.

If you use rom manager for anything other than loading cwm when you don't have a recovery (changing fonts, boot animation, etc etc, your risking bricking your device.

I think he meant Rom Toolbox. I have the Pro version but the Lite version will download and change the system font as well.

It's been forever and a day since I've had rom manager on my device.

For some reason I thought that had the font changer on it as well.

Personally me, I stay away from apps that change fonts and all mainly for the fact of hearing so many stories of the apps causing a brick.

Oh, you did mean ROM Manager. ;)

I gave up on that a while ago and couldn't even get it to install updates to CWM recovery reliably, let alone any of it's other functions on the Evo 3D.

But I know ROM Toolbox Lite/Pro works to switch system font and it's a good "Swiss army knife" utility to have around.

I've got the Pro version as well for most of its functions (aside from the system font changer), Sent my Evo 3D in a massive boot loop :p haven't used it since.

Hmm...

I've changed the system font without incident on several Evo 3D ROM's.

Maybe it depends on the ROM you are using. I've always found ROM Toolbox to be a very solid app and the developer is very responsive. And the video review by SassiBoB in the Play Store listing is very entertaining. ;)

Maybe because then I was on aosp (PA), but who knows.

DS

I have to confirm rom toolbox. It's always let me change fonts on the 3vo on every rom I've been on including PA. :/

You just like the cutie in the video :p

What font do you reccomend if you are still using it?

You know I haven't changed fonts in awhile but I just went through the list and changed over and over until I was happy with one. Some of them look good in the preview, but seeing them in the browser or other real world scenarios they were too much. Hard to read. I found that I preferred the more standard looking fonts if not the stock font with whatever rom I was on.

I'm trying to change the system fonts and signal/3g icons in evervolv but its not working. It changed my boot screen(random) though. Maybe because its 4.2?

Well you guys talked me into trying it on my Sammy and go figure no loops this time around.

Just weary of using apps that changes system folders.

Evervolv at all?

Edit: works now and is awesome!

Hot damn what I'd give to have a chick like that, that gets all excited for android business. My girl now is an apple fan girl smh...

I've had no luck with rom toolbox as well with changing fonts, themes or status icons. Now, I learned to just rename and switch the files. I wouldn't get any FC's, but nothing would happen.

Rom Toolbox Pro is well worth the money, All I need is that, Kernel Tuner, Swiftkey Pro, and Tapatalk and im good to go

Tho the themeing and status bar doesnt work too well, the Font changer has never given me an issue. The root browser is amazing and its my backup utility as well. Not to mention buildprop editor and terminal
