Is official FroYo comming to Galaxy Apollo?

I'm not sure about "preparing upgrade" is, but I heard that "Timed-Out" means you have a slow internet connection. So you might have to try it somewhere else. And still no news about it in the UK.

Looks like we might be on a wild goose chase in the UK...time is running out for the supposed april deadline and i don't seem to be able to get an answer from anyone or any site :( really losing faith in samsung who have till now never upset me :(
 
to be fair they leaked an update four months ago - and have a large range of phones to support, and a low priced phone like the Galaxy 3 gets less priority

My 5530 never got a single OS update from Nokia

I just tried to upgrade the firmware in Canada but it tells me I have the latest version. I guess it is not out for us in Canada, at least not for me.

there have been a few angry comments from users and and no responses from samsung. it would appear samsung have been deleting some of the comments from the page as well, though as somebody has been repeatedly posting the contact details of one of samsungs senior execs it's probably not that surprising. two interesting comments are...

Regarding your case, kindly note that we sincerely apologize for the
confusion that might have been caused due to the conflicting information you received.
However, please note that in the meantime the Froyo upgrade has been released for the Galaxy S phones only. More information on whether it would be developed for the other Android Phones, like your phone the GT-i5800, are still unknown."

and

"Hot (or not) news from the Exec Office at Hillswood Drive. "There are no plans to release FroYo for the Galaxy Apollo in the UK"" - Hillswood drive being the address that kept on being deleted.

It's unclear who's given this information out, if it's just a help desk type, then it's quite possible that they don't have any information on their system.

However, despite what Samfirmware have said it's looking more and more likely that the UK will go without Froyo for the Apollo.

It kind of makes sense from a business point of view as they have just released the ACE and they want people to buy that rather than the now dirt cheap Apollo which I'm guessing will disappear from shelves sooner rather than later.

It also makes sense why they have released it in India which is a market that sells more lower price feature phones than high end smart. So it will help it stand out against all the low price Nokias that do so well over there.

I just know that I probably won't be buying Samsung again. Certainly if they don't release a 2.1 eclair upgrade to fix things like the GPS issues.
 
for India users:
i went to a samsung centre today to get my phone upgraded, they told that the current upgrade has been recalled due to a bug in Swype and they will be releasing the modified upgrade next week.
so all the users who're having trouble with swype, i guess just wait it out for a week and then download the new upgrade when its made available.
 
Yeah I doubt it's ever gonna come to the UK I'll just wait to the end of April, if it doesn't arrive then i'm flashing it.
 
I may be thinking too simply here, but why on earth would a company release an update in some countries and then not others? They've already done most of the hard work. Such action can only lose them customers, not gain them.

I know, but if you bought it from carphonewarehouse they said they'll refund it but without the
 
my guess is that releasing updates like this is at the discretion of the samsung regional offices , some regions may choose to release it , others dont , i also think the recent release of the ace is also a factor... they want us to upgrade not update...
 
Well if I upgrade (which I doubt, seeing as I only bought the Apollo a month ago!) then I'm likely to steer well away from Samsung with its "certain customers only" attitude to Froyo ;)
 
The phone I have (ZTE Blade) was only upgraded to 2.2 in Sweden (Comviq)
And that was for new/refurbished phones only

All we got was the kernel source

So count your blessings ;)
 
I might return my apollo and buy the new Zte skate, It has pretty good features and it's 2.3.3 and has a 4.2" screen seems like a goos alternate.

See I recently got the phone, and was going to do this yesterday but, wanted to see what the UI looked like running the roms, worried it might look different and I quite like the current look lol :p
