Is the 3D the best? Or is it missing something?

Personally, I think the 3D is the most fully featured phone either available or on the way (as far as what is leaked/announced already), edgeing out the Sensation just because of the added 3D and more RAM.

But, I got to thinking, is it missing something that another phone has that would make it much better?

Personally, and I'll probably get flamed because it's a super gimmick, but I would love to have the fingerprint scanner the Atrix has. I just think it would be a cool thing to have (though I'm not sure how good it really works)

I would actually love something like this too...

My contribution would be (at least to my knowledge it's still missing...) NFC. It looks like a ton of handsets will be having it in the somewhat near future (say, by the time the next iteration of the Evo comes out), and if Google IO is any indication, Google has big plans for it and will be pushing it hard.

NFC will probably be a must have feature in the near future, but right now, I really don't have a clue when I would ever use it. The thing I keep seeing talked about is using it instead of swiping a credit card, and that is something I definitely am not interested in.

True, it certainly appears that it will be far more useful in the future. That said, Google showed off a lot of other uses other that just payments. Things like "bumping" information between phones, stuff of that nature. While I may not use it, it'd be nice to have. Again, if nothing else, for the "future proofing."

I'm very interested in the Android Open Accessory project that was revealed at Google IO. I think the Evo 3D is good here since I'm assuming it will definitely get Ice Cream in its practical lifetime. Can't wait for Android to catch on with appliances and general electronics. I'm all for an OPEN standard of communication that allows me to control stuff from a centralized device (my phone).

One of the things I really wish I could to is utilize the touchscreen on my car nav as a monitor for my phone. Meaning, if I can dock my phone with my car, that display becomes my phone as well as a way to interface with my car-specific functions. I really don't care for the factory firmware that is rigid and can't be upgraded or customized.

That's what Android Open Accessory is all about. Can't wait for this to catch on.

Pioneer is supposed to be launching some car centric Android devices, probably a head unit but I've seen mentioned a tablet that docs in a head unit somewhere. I know it isn't factory, but it's a step in the right direction, and Pioneer gets pretty innovative with stuff, so I can see great things coming if they put some resources behind Android in cars.

Yeah a lot of car mod companies are making center consoles with Android. Saab is putting Android in natively. There's a company that makes replacement consoles for E46 BMWs.

But the Android Open Accessory project means these companies can rally around the standard instead of developing one-off solutions for very specific devices.

The brightness and simultaneous power saving of the LG NOVA display.

(Because you said what other phones had - not what they should have, like Pixel Qi.)

3D is the best phone i've seen. Sure i would have liked a bigger battery. Kickstand. Better camera. NFC. LTE. But this will work just fine.

By the time NFC becomes useful outside of any niche, it will be time to upgrade my Nexus S 4G to something else.

The only two things I'd ask more of the Evo3D is a 8mp camera and a Super AMOLED Plus screen. Only one of those is possible since it's not a Samsung. :p

Seriously though, the E3D has everything I need and most the things I want. It's going to be a nice phone to have for the next two years =)

I recall reading somewhere that NFC may be available after-market in the form of a NFC enabled microsSD card. Added functionality akin to how Wi-Fi is added to cameras with the Eye-Fi microSD cards.

I've seen that indicated in a number of places too (I think EarlyMon posted something about it a while back now). Especially Ice Cream Sandwich is out, that would be essentially as good as having it built in, since all of the software control/support will be in place in the OS.

Watching a talk on NFC from Google I/O they mentioned that the NFC chip is about 3/4 inch round ...I took that to mean diameter by the quarter sized approximation gesture of his hand. Can't see that fitting into a microSD card.

***Edit***

Google search reveals it's in the works.

I've found and posted before on suppliers for cards with NFC coils (often, I think since December) - however - not seeing any of those being currently touted, I'm not sure if that's going to survive or not.

It wasn't made up info, is all I'm saying.

Why haven't I seen more of that from the industry? NFC popularity or was it an issue with viability? Don't know.

But if viable as shown before, and if NFC takes off, we can be sure to see a resurgence in these - marketed as a new invention of course. ;)

I would like to see 16GB or 32GB of storage in the phone itself, similar to what the Nexus S has. Then again, I'm one of those that likes to take as much of my tech files, music and miscellaneous with me. I have a 32GB class ten uSD card ready for this, but I still want more :)

From another topic here:
I expect to be going for the kickstand cover replacement. If this is accurate, it's straight black:
