Root Is This a Good Recovery?

I am using the AmonRa Recovery and the only thing that is causing me problems with it is my volume buttons. My volume buttons are worn out and are hard to push. This recovery -- [RECOVERY][EVO4G][NOBRICKS] TWRP 2.2.1 with on-screen keyboard! [2012-07-28] - xda-developers -- is all touch screen and has some features like the ability to name your recovery's. Is this a good recovery? Also in the title it says "[NOBRICKS]" which scares me a little because it sounds like it has a history of bricking Evo's but does anyone have any personal experience or know of a problem like this? Thanks.

The Smelkus Recovery looks good.. but it uses the touch buttons instead of the volume rockers right? Just making sure because I didn't see anything about that on XDA. Also its been a while since I flashed a recovery so just to make sure, all I have to do is rename smelkusmod to PC36IMG.zip and go in to bootloader and let it find it then accept the update, correct?

well i almost had a bricked evo. you can read my story here :http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/504184-omg-me-evo-alive.html.

i would stay away from it. but if you want to try it please read the op and even the posts in the thread.

personally i would try this one:[RECOVERY][MOD][1-June-2012] RA-supersonic-v4.3-smelkusMOD - xda-developers. it uses the capacitative touch buttons.

I had a bad experience with TWRP also. I've stayed away. Been using Amon RA on my EVO for a long time.

well there are two versions for the latest recovery, a .img file and a PC36IMG file. how did you root your phone?
I bought my phone off of eBay and it ended up being rooted? I installed AmonRA using the PC36IMG method because when I bought it, it had Clockworkmod recovery already installed and everyone said it was bad.

I haven't used it myself yet, but this is the latest TWRP touch recovery, and from the thread over on xda it seems that they have fixed the bricking issue. Only one person has flashed a back up though from the posts.
If you want full touch screen capabilities, a file manager and keyboard in recovery, you can try it, apparently this new one is GTG.

SmelkusMOD is very reliable, stable and has some nice touches. Great wipe menu. It has touch scrolling as well capacitative buttons.

I really liked TWRP 1.x, had a great flashing menu. Wanna try the newest one, just a bit reluctant due to the past version though. Might try it later today :smokingsomb:

If you like smelkusMOD and want to try out a recovery file manager try out this by the dev amarullz
AROMA File Manager

I've tried out the twrp touch recovery. It's very nice. Works well.
I'd say its a matter of preference which to use.
Smelkus mod has the excellent wipe menu and auto reboot. Twrp has a great flash menu, where you can line up multiple zips to be flashed, and wipe dalvik/cache menu all in one go. And obviously touch ui. Has lot more system info on screen too feels more interactive.

TWRP has bricked devices. I don't care if they fixed it, I wouldn't risk it when we KNOW there are perfectly good recoveries. I would personally recommend staying with smelkus or Ra 2.3

I'm just saying it appears to work now. The OP asked an opinion.
That being said, I went back to SmelkusMOD anyhows. Feels more robust.

Little hostile there:p Instead of ripping the old recovery for bricking devices, why don't you commend them for continuing development of this recovery and making things right;) Anyways, no troubles here with the recovery, I agree with robo, the amount of information you can see in recovery is awesome:)
