.Scary Alien's name is in red, so I would trust what he says. And I am not being sarcastic, I can't imagine you get to be a moderator on this site by giving bogus advice. As far as rooting an Android phone, I would recommend reading about many different ways and on other forums(and I don't like recommending other forums, but in this case I do). Sometimes other folks explain the process in a way that is easier for you to understand. Make sure you follow every instruction to a tee.
Get familiar with ways to restore your phone. Bricking one's phone is usually caused by getting to a point where somehow what is happening is different than the instructions, and you push forward anyway. If you see something during the process you aren't comfortable with, stop, come back here and ask questions or check the threads to see if someone else has seen the problem. For example, when I rooted my GNex it was a batch file I ran through ADB. I had read extensively the threads and saw that occasionally it would hang and that if it did, do a battery pull and reboot and I would be fine. I was prepared for that and when it happened, I knew what to do.

The UnlockRoot link seems to be legit from what I can tell. I would suggest you trying to learn the more indepth method in case you need to unroot in the future
Odin is samsungs app that will allow you to flash things on your phone. It is useful for flashing stock firmware and you do not have to be rooted to use it IIRC.

When EP and I seeded the all-things-root areas for the devices that didn't have all-things-root guides, we added links to threads that looked helpful and relevant. We are not the authors of those guides and links, we just seeded those guides with things written by others.
The particular guide being discussed above, [GUIDE] Rooting the Samsung Captivate Glide i927/i927r - xda-developers, was referenced in this thread : http://androidforums.com/captivate-glide-all-things-root/449720-root-method.html and the members therein were the ones giving it credence, and not myself.
I don't own the device myself nor have I vetted and researched through the XDA link (although there does appear to be a lot of excellent content by member CarpeNoctem who is the OP of that XDA thread).
As always with anything root-related, do your homework and research, have a fallback plan, and any risk you assume is your own.

. ) If the process of rooting seems beyond your ability at this point, the steps needed to install custom roms/kernels can even be more challenging. Then, there is the process of attempting to fix a soft bricked phone(plus the added stress of having a non working phone).
