Root Issue with sending text messges.

Sorry that everytime I post it seems to be with a problem... But hey, you guys are the best folks to ask these things! :) Anyway, my phone won't send any text messages that are longer than a sentence or 2. Not sure if this is because of the roms I use or what but it only started happening after I rooted. I type it out, send it, it tries to send for a bit then says that it failed to send. I retry several times always with the same result. Usually when this happens I can get really short texts to send out but they take a bit to get going. Restarting my phone does not help, I have even called sprint and had them refresh my profile or whatever it is they do. Also no improvement. Any ideas?

I had this exact problem. For some reason, the ROM I was using wouldn't automatically split larger messages into separate messages. Anything over 160 characters won't go through over the network in a single text. To solve this, I started using Go SMS pro and under the send settings there is an option to split larger messages. This is the easiest way, but you could just watch your character count and manually split it yourself each time. Hopefully this helps- it worked for me.

Try wiping cache and dalvic. Also which rom are you using that your having this problem with?

The most recent time it happened was with the latest build of the Infected ROM but I think it has done this when I was using mik2.59 as well.

Also- The 160 characters thing doesn't seem to be a factor. 160 characters falls into the category of "too long". Those won't send either. I'm saying the only ones that send are a single sentence or just a few words long. I did try setting my phone to send them in chunks of 160 at one point (even though it is lame and annoying..) and it didn't change anything. Still won't send the long ones.

did you try wiping dalvik cache and cache like argedion suggested?

Hey guys, I am having the same problem.

I can send short texts

I can send pictures (MMS)

But I can't seem to send a long text.

It has happened with Miui and currently on CM7 for me. Doing the wipe seems to work for a day or two and then it comes back.

It seems I am having problems with the phone automatically changing from SMS to MMS. Does that sound like it could be the issue. Sending texts in chunks does seem lame, the Evo is supposed to be a top notch phone....lol.

Any new ideas, did I miss something in the settings? Any help would be great.

Thanks

I would try to wipe the cache partition and the dalvik cache. Then if that's not cutting it, I would update the prl and profile. If you're not on a sense rom, nandroid your setup then flash a sense Rom or nand back to a sense Rom and update from there. Then just nandroid back and you should be good to go.
If that doesn't work, call Sprint and tell them to fix the damn network!

Its not a sprint thing and its not a Rom issue either, I had this issue once and figured it out....its the kernel, change kernel then update radio, wimax, pri, and nv, then update profile, then update prl.....this will fix your issues

Ok cool, I will give that a try. Maybe a dumb question, but how would the kernel effect my texting? Doesn't the kernel regulate voltage?

By no means do I doubt what you are saying, I am just trying to learn. Thanks!

Btw any suggestions on which kernel fixed your problem.

yes kernels regulate voltage. but i think that updating the radios, pri, nvi as well as the prl and profile is what actually helped.

kernels will not really play a part with any text issues unless you are using the wrong kernel on the wrong rom. kernels are designed for either gingerbread or froyo sense roms, or aosp roms. you need to know what rom you have and flash the appropriate kernel for it.
