Help Jelly Bean discussion/issues thread (released Dec. 13)

Something I noticed about the proximity sensor, it stays on after I've ended a phone call. Maybe a lot of people who are having a battery drain issue are in countering this problem however they don't notice it.I reset my phone ( not factory reset) and it took forever for it to go through the reset process. Should I contact HTC regarding this issue? Or should I just not address it since many have already.

Please report it to HTC. I got another disappointing response that told me that they want me to send my phone in for repair!!! Grrr!!!

The proximity sensor worked before the update just fine. Now it's busted after the update. Why would my phone be the problem? There is a problem with the code in the update! That is the only logical conclusion but they refuse to acknowledge it because, most likely, few are complaining.

The more people who complain the better chance that we will finally be heard and the better chance that the developers will fix their code. So please, please, please! Report it to HTC.

Thank You!!! :D

Thank YOU for letting me know what to do. I just sent them an email and I'm awaiting for their response. I told them I have done a factory reset after I began to encounter multiple issues. I really didn't but I want them to know that a factory update is useless for their faulty update.

Contacting the source, which is Htc, generates trouble tickets. Strength is in numbers so the more tickets on issues they receive, the better the next update will be. Don't just post here, take it to Htc.

And please be respectable. The person handling the ticket most likely didn't produce the Jellybean update..

im not having any battery issues. my serious issue is with bluetooth. it doesnt work at all anymore. it wont recognize any devices near it, and other devices cant find my phone.

the other two minor issues i'm having are with voicemail and the proximity sensor.

i called my guy at sprint and he told me to try a hard reset to see about fixing the bluetooth issue. i didnt think that would help but i did it last night. it didnt work. i told him today and he said he would order me a new phone.

if you havent upgraded to jb just yet...i would wait until they fix these issues first.

I got my replacement EVO in the mail today. I didn't plan to update it to jb but after seeing some ppl saying they weren't having any issues, I decided to give it a try.

Well much to my surpirse I'm not having any issues that I was posting about prior...voicemail, proximity sensor, lagging, and Bluetooth.

Its working perfectly without any issues

Well, my battery time is better after the factory reset but not by a whole lot and not nearly as good as before JB. Made it about 12 hours before hitting red last night. Usage was a normal day which before I could make it 24+ hours. Pretty disappointing. Positive is my notifications are still working correctly which for me was critical. Will just go back to plugging in at work like I did the OG Evo until a fix (hopefully) comes out. Proximity sensor is a little better after the reset but does wacky things. Now the screen flashes on/off when it's away from my face after a call. What is the cache clear in the recovery menu that was mentioned? I just did a factory reset under settings -> backup and reset -> reset phone. I didn't check erase all data or erase SD card.

I'm sure this has been answered but is "just charge" not an option anymore? I don't want my phone to auto sync or mount as disk drive every time I go to charge it on USB.

Where did the microphone go in swype? I can no longer talk to text?

Also, the camera always makes a noise when taking a picture? wtf? Apparently putting the phone on silent no longer silences it...

Since the latest update I can't insert numbers at one time. It switches to the keyboard after every insertion of a number. Really tough to track packages like this......:O.....Any ideas why this is happening ? Also my phone now is acting great......after several resets hard and soft....

Thanks,

factory fresh phone, i would not expect you to have any issues.

many people who are having issues have dirty tangled caches to which a factory reset would more then likely cure their concerns.

pleased to hear all is well with your new toy...

Except for those of us who have done factory resets and wiped the chache several times who still have issues... LOL....

Why should consumers have to wipe their phones clean (factory reset) after receiving an OTA "upgrade" in order to get their phones to work properly. There seems to be something inherently wrong with this!! If an upgrade is truely an upgrade for an unrooted phone, it simply should work after a purported OTA upgrade! (Unrooted phones do not have the luxury of having a 'nandroid' to fall back on to restore the phone after a "wipe".

Do others share that concern?? (It seems that we, the unrooted, were let down by the release of the OTA 3.15.651 upgrade to JB.) What can HTC and Sprint do to right the situation for the unrooted??

You can contact HTC and suggest they add a cache wipe to the end of their ota script process.

You wouldn't need to factory reset if that was the case.

We don't work for sprint or HTC, so unfortunately all we can do here is provide a workaround, which is a factory reset. If you want the problem fixed you'll have to go to the source.

One thing HTC can't guarantee is how their software upgrades will work with handsets that use 3rd party apps from "other", sources. There is simply no way for them to test for every individual phone setup, so bugs will slide by unfortunately.

This is one reason why there is an option to install other apps or not.

Also, some users may customize their handsets more so than others and they may find more issues over someone who has a relatively clean handset.

Also, more people post with issues than those who don't. I don't know the numbers but I don't think an overwhelming majority have issues vs. those who don't.

I agree with the previous poster, submit trouble tickets to Htc so they can build a better MR. Strength is in numbers.

So after being sent a troubleshooting ticket of what might be wrong with my stock messages app and proximity sensor, I get sent this other message from HTC:

Dear Jason,

Thank you for your reply, Jason. I apologize the test was unsuccessful, but it seems the issue with the proximity sensor is an issue with the hardware of the device. Please contact our warranty and repair department to set up a repair ticket unless you are still the grace period with the carrier and they can swap out the device. The phone number for the warranty and repair department is 1-888-617-1113 and the hours of operation are 6am to 1am Eastern Standard Time seven days a week. Also I would suggest clear the cache on the Messages application to see if it will resolve the issue with this application.

I hope this information helps, Jason. For any future questions or concerns about the device please feel free to contact us here at HTC Technical Support and thank you once again for being an important part of the HTC community. I hope you have a great night.

Let me know if I have successfully answered your question, please click here to complete this.

What now do I do? I purchased my phone from Best Buy at the date of the release so I'm well over the return date. This is NOT a hardware issue

I have another question for you guys. I just got a new micro SD card. It was reformatted before I transfered my old files and inserted it into my phone. I tried exploring the contents of it through Astro and got the message "SD card unexpectedly removed. Unmount SD card before removing to avoid data loss."

What's going on? I've already gotten it multiple times.

Everyone has a different experience.
My battery life has been excellent since Jelly Bean for my particular needs. Did a clean install (rooted and upgraded to the Stock Jelly Bean ROM, but that is honestly not a factor in this situation) featuring back up then factory resets before and after the install as I always do.
I've seen 1 day 22 hours of battery full to empty, light use. So let's just call that 2 days. Granted ALOT of it was 'standby' where the phone was not on (been real busy, haven't barely had time to use my phone). But I have the screen on full brightness, always, and don't use power saver. No Sync is wanted/needed for my situation, so radios are only used when I actively need them and only when the phone screen is on - no background data polling.
Today my phone has been on for 18 hours and 79% battery is left, again really light usage.

Noticed a few new .apk's in the applications list. One of them is called UDove. From what I can gather it is what HTC renamed their feedback/'Tell HTC' client. In case anyone else had been wondering, I just wanted to put that out there since I haven't really seen it mentioned 'round these parts.
There is also 'Rescue' that I think has been added. (may have been in an Ice Cream Sandwich maintenance update I didn't take prior) HTC's LogMeIn 'security' client. For those that lose their phones, have trouble accessing theirs, or what-have-you.

The U.K. region HTC One X has recently been receiving a small maintenance release for Jelly Bean. It has been about a month from Jelly Bean to this maintenance by my approximation.
The Evo 4G LTE should get one as well sometime soon, depending upon how many bugs they try to tackle and how quickly they can find resolutions.
Believe it or not it is all a part of a typical pattern and timeline, however I use that term very loosely.

I have found the best thing to do on any Android phone with any new SD card is to insert it into the phone and then Erase it (Format it) from Settings > Storage. I was getting similar errors back on ICS with a new 64gb card and an Erase (Format) fixed it.

@jdmprojekshun,

i also agree wit sik about the SD card. format it IN the phone...

do you have insurance with BB or Sprint? if so, take it in and have them look at it. With all due respect, it could be a hardware issue. At this point, your best recourse is to make a paper trail. so you have started one with HTC, now head to BBY or Sprint and have them smoke it over. getting upset here will not magically fix your device.

at this point make sure:

you do not have a screen protector on
you do not have a case or cover on
you have hard reset/factory reset your device

others have posted that they are having a proximity sensor issue so do some searching over the internets to see what has become of those complaints. Post over on the Sprint official forums and see if you can get a rep there to help you.

at some point you may have to take your phone in and worse case ship it to htc. it all depends on if you have insurance with sprint or bby.

All my screenshots sent through texts are blurry now since he update. Does anyone know of a fix for this? My wife teases me now telling me her iPhone is better than mine now..smh.

If you go further back in this thread you can find the pictures I posted of the screenshot issue I am having (makes text virtually unreadable) and EarlyMon mentioned they are working on the issue of Over Compression in the Root Community. I have opened up a Support ticket with HTC and sent them examples of before and after I try and attach them to Texts. I would recommend you opening a ticket with HTC Support as well so that they know it is more people are having the same problem. Near as I can guess, when attaching the 720x1280 screenshot to a text the software Over compresses the image regardless of the file size limit you have set in the MMS Settings. A workaround for the time being that I have found to be passable is to crop the image with the important part of the image you are sending before you attach it.

This happens to me with stock messaging, but not with Chomp. I would highly suggest switching. Chomp just performs better imo.
