Jellybean 4.1 Discussion

Swiftkey 3 still doesn't work with the Jellybean 9-7 build. Deal breaker for me.
 
Hey Guys? I'm running [ROM] [09.07.2012] Hercules JB 4.1.1 CM Nightlies and when connected to pc via usb I dont see an option on the phone to connect? I'm looking to transfer files over from my pc to the phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I tried that but it never changes from the stock keyboard. I'm going to try a couple more things and see if I can get it going. Thanks for the suggestion.

Have you checked windows explorer to see if it shows up? I just plug mine in and it connects. I don't see an option on the phone to connect like normal. It connects as an MTP device.

That worked this time. :D

I selected it in settings and then went back to the app to finish setting it up. Love my SwiftKey.
 
I really have a question about the 4.1 development - Why is it that CM10 nightlies are not developed for our variant yet?

I don't quite understand the business behind the Nexus 7 and the Galaxy Nexus as they are the first ones to receive the new updates. I see there is official nightlies for the Galaxy S1 - variants but yet we are still out in the cold.

Not trying to be a downer here or anything I am just wondering what could be a possible reason. It is a little bitter because the GS2 was a flagship device for quite a bit of time and now it will not get Jellybean (because Samsung wants us to buy the GS3) and yet the Galaxy S3 has development for it and I will not be surprised if it gets the 4.1 update first!

Well, you actually need someone on the cm team to be working on your device for it to be officially supported.


There can also be all kinds of hardware differences that hold phones back. You'll notice official support comes in batches as the devs figure out the hardware. The One series all got it at the same time because it was a matter of getting cm to work on that specific piece of hardware.

The reason the s3 already has it is sheer numbers. Its a blockbuster phone and has a huge dev community as a result

Seems I understand about the S3 a bit more than the Nexus devices - I do understand the source code for those is readily available but Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 already get updated by google the moment the software is stable and ready to go. I know personally for my Nexus 7 I will not be putting any form of custom rom - the only thing is just root. I use it for work a lot and I need something stable which will just work.

Also for the Galaxy S2 (US variants) would you not think that it would also be a device that would be worked on extensively because it was the last huge flagship device?
 
If the s2 was officially supported for ICS thres no reason it won't see JB support.

Its just a matter of time, dependant on your dev community's strength

I don't know where I read it but I thought I read something from Samsung that they will not update the GS2 further but it could have been a speculation. Anyway it was just a question that got settled I am sure eventually the bugs in the unofficial builds will get ironed out and it will be all good. As far as I am concerned the link I put on this thread has a really good build except for the RR and SODs. Thanks for t engagement in this philosophical discussion and hope ports get better soon because this "I can't believe it's not butter" is really not butter and I can believe it.

I saw information a while back the GS2 would not get Jelly Bean because the hardware wasn't compatible.

Now I've seen reports that its been confirmed Samsung will release JB for the GS2. Whether that means our Tmo phones will get it, or when, who knows.

That is exactly what I read that supposedly our phone did not have the hardware to handle Jellybean but that is a big bunch of baloney - when you see that galaxy nexus is worse speced than our phone. Also the development community has been able to port it to some really old devices with 512 ram which kind of shows the baloney.

Anyway it will be interesting what the excuse will be if they decide not to do it. I do hope that there are no excuses and just a nice new shiny Jellybean on my phone running that Buttery stuff!!!!
 
You have to remember aosp jellybean and Samsung's touchwiz jellybean are not the same. They have huge demand differences due to all the touchwiz bloat. The nexus runs aosp which is much easier to run

Also, above I was referring to official cm support...not Samsung. If you had cm9 you'll get cm10
