Root Jellybean Discussion for rooted users (Now Official)

This was my first time installing a ROM and glad to say it was Jellybean. Yesterday I installed what I'm guessing was the latest build and for the most part JB seems to run smooth on my Evo. There are only a small number of issues to report:

  • Google Search which keeps crashing on me
  • I get a "the process com.android.phone has stopped" message whenever I reboot the device. What does that mean?
  • It's hard for me to tell when I'm ever on 3G since there is no icon on the status bar, and hard to tell when I have full bars. The bars seem to only go as far as 2 bars. Haven't tested out much the phone yet though
  • Last night I went to bed with the phone charged to 65%, and WiFi/3G turned off to conserve battery (as usual). When I woke up 6 hours later the phone was completely DEAD. Today I was fully charge by 12:20PM and now over 2 hours later, with WiFi turned on but little use, the phone holds steady at 98%. Very, very weird!!!
That's all I have to report. Hope it's helpful!

  • Make sure you have all of the touch sound options checked under Settings -> Sound. For some reason that seems to be the default fix for a lot of what ails CMX right now :p

I hate having those sounds too and always turn them off first thing, unfortunately, for now, we must live with them

I have all sounds on but I get "Unfortunately, Google Search has stopped" after a short while anyway. It happens right after the Google Now card introduction, when I select "Yes I'm In" as soon as I change screen orientation from portrait to landscape. I will try it without changing orientation.

1)Google search should work 100%. I havent had a single crash.

2)Phone crash on start was normal, but it was fixed in todays build

3)There should also be 3G, 1x, and LTE icons when relevant

4)Sounds like you hadsome major wake locks, if it happens again try a full wipe and reflash

Since it was your first ROM flash, I have to ask...what did you wipe? Not wiping properly could cause a lot of issues.

Thanks for sharing your experiences :)

I wiped both caches and did a factory reset on phone before flashing the rom.

Pretty nice, I like the boot animation more for the S3 but still cool. I know it has a ways to go, my camera kept getting locked up and missed the HQ Mod I had on Viper. Back on Viper now.

Rxpert83.... do you think last nights build is more stable than 8/11?

if so i'll jump again and try but i tried 8/13 and couldn't even make phone calls without the phone rebooting

I haven't had stability issues with any of the recent (last 2 weeks) builds. 8/13 had broken MMS but thats been fixed as well

But as we've seen from this thread... Everybody's phone acts differently. All I can advise is to give it a flash and see

If 8/11 is working fine for you, just wipe dalvik cache and cache and flash 8/15 over it

I also forgot to add that it doesn't look like my 3G is working. I didn't notice this before since I've been on WiFi at home and at work, but just testing it out now with Data is enabled (also went to Phone Info and radio is on LTE/CDMA auto, in Settings preferred network mode is LTE/CDMA/EvDo)it doesn't look like it's working. I just upgraded to today's build and same issue.

The 8/14 build has been my daily driver since well 8/14. Is this one ROM that you can flash the update over just by clearing cache and dalvik cache? I'd really like to keep up to date on this. I'm really loving the Jelly Beany goodness. I have 0 complaints so far.

My official stance ;):
You can always try updating a Rom that way. Just make sure to do a nandroid and do a full wipe install if you run into issues.

You shouldn't have any issues "dirty flashing". Just make sure if you run into any issues you do a clean install before bringing it up to deck and co

I clean flashed the first 8/11 build and have been dirty flashing since with no apparent problems.

This is coming along very nicely! The *only* thing that outright does not work is the videocam. A small issue (for me) is the prox sensor while in calls - it will not turn the screen back on in low light conditions. There are some workarounds for that in a dedicated thread on XDA though if you happen to have the issue (not everyone seems to have it).

Either this ROM hates my phone or my phone hates it. I can't seem to get a install going where I don't get phone issues. (android.com.phone) or whatever keeps flaking out on me and I can't use the phone for a phone.

Anyone know if MIUI is making progress or has a newer version out. I can't remember the one I tried that would only get me as far as the animation screen.

It's been crashing on startup but you should be able able to get through it and have it operate normally.

I've had it crash 4 or 5 times in a row before but it always works eventually

yes its the eventually part that I'm concerned with. I need my phone when I need it can't afford to wait around but thanks for the info was thinking I was the only one. Can't figure out why It won't answer a call either but not sure if that was because TB was running or another issue.

Very strange. It force closes only on boot 1-2 times here and phone works 100% fine after that.

There is a bug tracker in the topic of the irc if you want to report it there.

I heard tonight that the phone will FC until you establish a signal.

So if your in a low signal area it can take longer

Is anyone able to flash the 8/17 build of JB? I tried flashing clean and dirty and it failed both times.

Also of note I tried flashing MeanRom's CM9 build v30 and that failed also. Maybe it's something with my phone. Any suggestions?

I've been running it all day today. Make sure you download sizes match up or check md5

so im assuming no more builds since they (deck and toast) are official host for LTEVO and CMX, they now follow the CM release schedule? fine by me at least they got it to daily driver status!!!!
I talked to deck tonight and it won't start getting built by cm servers until he gives them the go ahead. He said sometime next week on that. Apparently he still has a few things he wants to get done.

So expect releases in Irc until you see an official cm10 thread here

yes i've been running it since 30 minutes after it's upload. most stable for me so far. everything works, using as a Daily Driver...

Might I ask how you went about flashing? I tried flashing dirty, clean, flashing kernal separate from rest of rom, and neither method works!!! Still on 8-15 build.
