Just Downloaded FROYO 2.2 via Kies Mini

I did number 3 and it entered download mode but never left it. My phone still says Downloading and Do not Turn off Target!!! Will that eventually leave the screen? It has been on that screen for at least 30 minutes. I never saw anything on the computer that said it was downloading

If you see your computer say that it device driver was loaded, you can just unplug it. It will stay on that screen as long as you allow it to. lol

finally did it but not using mini kies. Odin 3.0 V1.0 and the new rom. Took 5 minutes very happy. It doesn't delete anything. I just need to root then done..... :-) google briefmobile update samsung captivate 2.2

My phone has been updated, but when I tried to reboot it is has stuck at the Galaxy S logo S animation screen for a long long. I'm gonna pull the battery...

Mine was on that screen for awhile too, but when it finished it showed the startup screen with the screen lock shown and vibrated a few times and blacked out on me. The screen was blank but my home keys were lit??? I pulled the battery and restarted and so far good. I read and went through the tutorial and checked my firmware and is now 2.2. YAY! :D Hopefully all will be well.

Finally got it to upgrade. Went into device MGR in windows XP, located the Samsung USB device, upgraded driver via internet, done. Wow, more bloatware and at&t apps.

Just update and I forgot how to turn off the clicking sound when typing. I know it's not a place to ask but please........

Thanks. Has anybody actually done step 3 (holding the volume keys while plugging in thephone)? I didn't do that and Kies sees my device fine. I guess I'll try to update when I get home from the office. Meantime has anybody had success updating on a windows 7 64 bit machine? It says the computer has to be 32 bit..

I upgraded mine earlier today on a Win 7 64 bit machine.

Running Win 7 x64 and updated two capt's with no problems.

Just got done upgrading, took me an hour lol cause I am not good at this stuff. Anyways... THANK THE LORD!

My phone has been so slow in recent weeks and this is what it needed so badly! Everythign runs so much slicker and smoother and I just love it! I can finally go on Twitter and Facebook and not have to wait 5 mins to watch them load!

My computer never said anything. That was the problem. I finally just went on to the next steps and the upgrade seems to have worked. Will know more today when I actually use the phone.

Last night I updated my phone (fully stock/unrooted). For those interested I was using Windows 7 Ult edition 64bit. I uninstalled all my previous Kies (Kies Mini and Kies Full?), went to the Samsung "How to Upgrade Phone" site that was posted here and followed every direction. Probably took 10 minutes until I was ready to download the update. The update took about 20 minutes to process, and worked with no major problems.

Only trouble I have run into in the 12 hours of having the update is I had to switch to "Home Switcher - Froyo" as the "Home Switcher" I had wouldn't keep my desktop as the default. Other things that I'm not liking:

1. Seems like the phone constantly reloads the stupid bloatware AT&T installed. I'll ATK the programs then 5 minutes later I'll go back in after opening nothing and they are back. Don't know if this is a problem with ATK or Froyo.

2. When I kill the browser program, and go to reuse browser, the browser goes back to the last webpage I was on before I killed it whereas it used to just go back to the homepage I set up for it.

3. Does anyone know if AT&T is going to make a mint off of us users that don't have unlimited data plans with this flash stuff? Some sites I visit have those flash advertisements that are usually big, and I'm sure after a while that will start to add up. Don't know if I'll hit my 2gig limit, but some in the 500mb or w/e the other one is might.

4. When I loaded up the Market it seemed to went to a previous version of the Market, but now it seems to be back to the newest version.

Overall good things:

1. Seems smoother and faster

2. No real problems, and no data loss when doing the update.

3. Start up to working time seems to have been cut down dramatically.

4. GPS works, but took about 1 minute to lock me in 10m when I was sitting in my bedroom.

Stupid question and I'll probably be crusified for asking since we just got 2.2, but can this phone handle 2.3 and does anyone know if we will ever get it outside of ROMs?

i just updated my phone to 2.2 without any issues. it took around 30 minutes but so far i like the changes this update has brought.

I now want the circle battery and android lock screen back. Keep search on XDA but no one posted for the new 2.2 yet
Any one can help would be appreciated

You're going to have to flash a rom that is de-odexed. I used Cognition. If you want instructions, let me know.

kies update was stuck at 1% for more than 30 mins. i removed the usb and now it shows a phone and computer icon on screen. what to do?

Just completed the upgrade on my stock, unrooted phone. From download to update to two reboots, it took 12 minutes. No drama, all my data appears to be intact.

If you access corporate email through an exchange server, you may have to agree to grant your email administrator permission to remotely reset your device.

One word of caution: Others have said the upgrade removes widgets. On my phone, it reset all seven home screens back to default. I expected my shortcuts to stay the same, just the widgets to go away. That is not the case. If you like the way you have your home screen(s) set up, make a note before doing the upgrade! I'm in the process of rebuilding my home screens.

I gave up! Tried multiple cables, multiple computers...all the same result - "USB device not recognized". On the phone with Samsung now.

Not Liking

1) Mine too, haven't had time to resolve yet.

2) Ditto

3) AT&T updated data usage monitor on website. You'll be OK just watch it.

4) Normal for first few times

Good Things

1) Mine Too, Very Fast

2) Same

3) Ditto

4) Same

Yes 2.3 & 2.4 are supposed to be compatible according to a source I have. NDA prevents saying more.

Cheers :)

Same thing happen to me. Flash back to original stock rom then Kies with recognize the phone and update. That was what I did

Ok so on my first try I got it to download via mini kies. Something happened and the screen turned red and I had to go into emergency recovery mode. I did all of that and waited till the phone completely rebooted. Everything worked out ok and I am now running froyo on my captivate!! I am no reinstalling all of my widgets.

I'll check back with more updates.

Update 1: Nothing appears to be deleted. All of my apps are still there, sms still there and launcherpro is working well.

kies update was stuck at 1% for more than 30 mins. i removed the usb and now it shows a phone and computer icon on screen. what to do?

i connect in emergency recovery mode (pressing both volume keys and plugging in usb while kies is open) its stuck again at 1%.

So, it's finally out? Anyone who's playing with the official release and the latest Cognition know whether it's worth using the official?

I'd like to know this too. Cognition 3.04 seemed a little buggy so I'm trying to decide whether to go with Cognition 4, the official AT&T Froyo, or some other ROM.
