Just exchanged my Evo Shift for the Evo.

I have the EVO running the latest CyanogenMod 7 RC2. I like this build, but I will probably like the Fresh Build once one is released. I just got used to the Sense apps that handle Contacts with Groups, etc. The Fresh Mod was the Sense UI and just stripped of the Sprint Apps. When a Fresh Mod for Gingerbread is put out by the Dev, I'll jump on that. By the way, the CyanogenMod 7 RC2 seems to be working well. I LOVE what I can do with Android, and EVO.

HAHAHA I have to laugh every time an Evo owner tells me that they used to have a Samsung Moment as I did too. I hear your pain...the phone caused me many pains and many frustrations. My friend was right when he threw his against the wall or stomped it out or just completely damaged it about 6 times...the phone is utter...forgive my French...shit. lol

I may never buy another Samsung product as I live either.

Ah, newbie shnoobie...I came here with so many basic questions and everyone was so kind and I learned so much through the use of others' advice. Many users here you will see again and again and the usuals are the ones who usually have the best advice to give if you need any technical help. I actually come to this site for technical problems first then to HTC/Sprint if I need anything else...that's how much I value these other users' advice. Old, young...doesn't matter...rooting and all that comes with it is easy and you'll pick up like nothing. It'll become a hobby to you after a while lol

Well great to hear your review and comments and hope you enjoy your stay here and with your new Evo :D

I had a Moment too and regretted it after about 3 months. When the year was up I don't think I've ever been so glad to dump a phone. My son is using it now and he has some sserious evo eny. I feel bad for him but he does have an android phone. I think he's pretty lucky.

As for Samsung, I also have an epic, a 50" Plasma and a front loading washing machine. The epic is a bit of a pain in the ass but the washer and the plasma are absolute win. I wouldn't trade them for any other brand.

I have the EVO running the latest CyanogenMod 7 RC2.

I will try CM7 when the final is released. I just ordered a HDMI dock in the hope of using it for sound output with my stereo. So since CM7 does not include any HDMI right now I am holding off and staying with a Sense based rom.

Yep, HTC in all its innovative glory, bigger screen doesn't mean more efficient use of screen real estate, it means everything is just...bigger.

Welcome to the EVO!

Have had the EVO for a few days now. Thought maybe I could fit more widgets and shortcuts onto the screen (compared to some of the smaller screen phones), but instead it seems to be as you described, everything is just bigger. Don't get me wrong, I like the big screen, particularly when surfing. Just a minor issue. So I take it there is no workaround, other than using more screens?

there are several options to get more icons on screen.

1. use apps that let you organize icons:
more icons widget
Elixir (love this app.. it is powerful, but requires you do some learning how)

2. use a launcher to change it all! but you loose Sense. you can find apps to emulate some of the sense things.
launcher pro (love this)
ADW launcher

3. Root the phone and use custom ROM and/or mods to get your more icons on screen space.

Using Launcher Pro you can set your desktop grid to anything you want. You can even set it so high your icons overlap.

It's a great way to take advantage of the larger screen.

Multicon was the widget that did it for me. 4 icons in the place of one regular sized.

welcome to the evo-lution.

i think it is better than 50/50 it will get updated to 2.3

moment sucks and had a lot of bugs.. that required better support.
EVO is not in the same situation with it's current setup.

and if you choose to join the ROOTed community.. you would not worry about updates. EVO has one of the best grey-market support.

Is there any one who can tell how much is the HTC EVO 4G with no contract ? Where can I buy it ? Thank you!

go to sprintpcs.com.. to find the no contract price.

you can get on craigslist.org for $200 used to $300 new-ish.

Thanks for the different options on getting more widgets on the screen. Will give them a try.

By the way, just returned from kind of a grueling trip. The EVO turned out to be quite the road warrior / travel companion. It did lock up a couple times, and there were some little things that bugged me here and there, and I'm still getting used to it. But overall it was really great, I'm really happy with it so far.

Kind of funny that the two features I really didn't care about at all when picking this phone (the kickstand, and 4G because we don't have coverage where we live), were very useful. 4G coverage is kind of a treat when you find it.

The power connector got a pretty good workout though. I'm a little worried that it might be the first thing to go after a year or so.

I too had the samsung moment, but I think I have everyone beat! My Moment was water damaged, and would not update past 1.5 lol..

As if the phone wasn't a total piece before I accidentally fell into a pool with it in my pocket, it was soooo much worse after the water damage..

The EVO is mind blowing compared to the moment, but I will say it is IMPRESSIVE that the moment still worked after be submerged in water for over 2 minutes...

My fiance has the LG Optimus (she liked that it was purple), and it has all kinds of little quirks that are annoying. Plus, the HTC Sense is a much better User Interface. I think we will be getting her either an EVO 4G, or Maybe the 3D when it comes out. :)

hi all, i am also new to the evo i echanged my shift for the evo. i absolutley love the phone still figuring my way around it. just switched from AT&T to sprint. Had a samsung captivate which i actually liked, But hated AT&T.got the shift couse the rep at the store told me it was the evo i was lookin for.(dont trust them) turns out of course it wasnt and they didnt have the evo in stock (he wanted to make a sale). so two days later exchanged for the evo woohooo. Happy dance lol long story short the evo is better than any other android i have used such as sony xperia x10 and samsung captivate to shift now the happy moment the EVO

My Fiance also has the Optimus S and she likes it (or appreciates it better than the POS Moment she replaced it with). Me being an Evo owner, I actually consider the LG a pretty good phone for the buck. Of course we didn't have to pay for it exactly but it performs on par with my old Sprint Hero. If it was maybe slightly bigger like 3.7" and had a front facing cam... she could probably do without wanting to have an Evo also :p

Evos (Shift or the original) are like one of the 12 steps in Moment recovery.

Seriously. After our Moments, we were ready to go Jitterbugs or something! :D

"Moment" - it mocks you with such a name. It took about 10 moments to load a simple text message. And you'd better "cherish the moment" when your battery indicator is green because it wont last long.

After 16 months and numerous impressive "moments" of self-control where I didn't smash it into a wall or throw it out the car window, I couldn't take it anymore and bought an EVO

bought the shift, 20 days 3 hours and 5 minutes later went back and exchanged for EVO and havent looked back- love it, love it and have owned other HTC in past ROOTed as well as stock and still by far this is fav yet. does anyone know a bloat freezer app that is non-ROOT?

I am so over this phone. Almost a year now and I still have texting issues, the phone "stalls" and goes to a black screen at the most inconvienient moments, tired of texting one person and the phone sends it to some random person I've never texted. The power button on top is dying, it's a beautiful phone, and I give it major props...but COME ON!!!!!!!!!!! I've been using smart phones for years and this one is just a PITA!!! I'm eligible for upgrade in June, and since I like the idea of the EVO, I'm thinking of going with the EVO Shift. Has anyone had any experiences with switching from Evo to Evo Shift?

you should really get it replaced under warranty...

if for anything else... you need it clean.. so you can sell it!

I've taken it to Sprint and because I can't "make it happen" so they can see it they say it's operator error. It also doesn't sync up to my Facebook, like picture updates etc. It just drives me nuts to have this phone that I know is amazing, yet I have these issues and Sprint isn't willing to do anything about it because I can't make it malfunction on command. Such crap.
