Root Just got my evo

Hey guys i just got my evo and i was wondering if theirs a no root needed Rom that i can flash out in the community or a zip file i can flash through recovery to root my evo. The reason i ask about those things is because i own a boost mobile warp and in the warp those to above that i mentioned are available, so im just hoping it would be available for the evo as well. No negative or rude comments please . Its just a quick question before i begin working with the evo. Thanks in advance. :)

Hi Dennis!
Unfortunately, unless there's some sort of super secret ROM I'm unaware of, root is required to flash custom ROMs. There's plenty of info around, though, to help you root. Hope you enjoy your new phone!

also,a collection of info and FAQ for s-off:

more info on unlock, and s-on rom flashing

sounds like htc phones work a lil differently than what youre used to,so just post up if you have any questions :)

I found this forum on xda

Yet when I go to connect my phone and run the program it doesn't read my evo. I don't have the original HTC sync cable, I'm just using a spare that I had laying around. Is the original HTC cable needed in order for the computer to identify the phone?

Unfortunately that method won't work for you. It requires s-off, which you cannot get until your phone is already unlocked and rooted through HTC Dev.
Unless you happen to have gotten your hands on an old 3vo with Hboot 1.4 or below, you can use revolutionary to easily gain s-off.

The original cable is not required. I have used an aftermarket blackberry cable for most of my rooting. It sounds like maybe you don't have the drivers installed. You can get them by installing HTC sync.

Hey guys, so I did all the steps in the forum and now my evo says it's unlocked. Does that mean it's rooted now? I flashed a sprint doedexed rom and it went flawlessly. Am I missing anything else? Btw I don't see a supersu

If I'm not mistaken, some sort of super user app is required to actually enable root access (permission) to your phone. Unlocking your phone gave you the ability to do so, just now needing something that actually accesses it! Don, Brian, Scotty or DS may have a better explanation, but I think that's the gist of it.

Toad is correct. You need to flash the super user patch or flash a rom with root permissions. Also yes, for pacman you need hboot 1.5 or below. This will require being s-off. You can't downgrade your hboot unless s-off.

Pacman is Good
AOKP by Mazda is good.
CM10 by dastion is good
Anything by team Derp -

I am Fairly sure you will need S-off for all of those.
Look up the wire trick to get S-off...
(you may need to RE-LOCK your htc unlocked phone)

I have flashed a supresor already and ill be testing a different rom other than pacman. Before I do. Any suggestions?

Well, here's where the flashaholics start looking like women at a clearance sale :D: there's so much out there, it depends on your likes, etc. Do you wish a more stock experience with or without sense? Are you going to want to tinker with your kernel and appearance? There's just no easy answer without more information. :questionmark:

Personally, I like sense and to customize it a bunch, so I like Viper3D. Due to my bad digitizer, I've found Common Sense a little less glitchy for me. A lot of folks in the forum, however, prefer senseless versions. Several ROMs feature both sense and non-sense versions. MIUI, AOKP, ASOP and hybrid ROMs are all non-sense versions. :dontknow:

Follow the links to the ROMs on THIS THREAD, and check out the different ROMs for your particular HBoot. I'd also check out the individual ROM threads both on AF and at XDA so you can see possible bugs, and see what you might be able to live with. Pay particular attention to the ROM's requirements to prevent booting issues, etc. DS does a heck of a job keeping up with the req's list, but it's difficult cuz the requirements can often change from version to version and mistakes could lead to :banghead:.

(Apologies for novella-type post! :o )

Haha I asume you're Mexican if you know the word novella. Anyways I have hboot 1.57 and the stock sprint rom works fine. I basically want a rom that's stable built for speed and smooth. So any suggestions with that criteria is fine. I'll still be researching more roms. N I don't have soff yet. I'm still working on that.

Wait a sec, if you have HBoot 1.57, then you are not on the Sprint network, is your phone a HTC Evo V from Virgin mobile ??

I looked for a Virgin Mobile thread but didn't find one so I assumed going to any evo 3d forum would have the information I needed.
Why would you call this a wild thread
