Just had a system update on Eris??

Sorry could not change post title. Only the body.

I did a restore and did get all my programs back. so does this mean I can not save programs onto my SD card?

You know what's bugging me about this OTA? This is the first OTA update that Verizon Wireless has not sent me an email to announce that it was coming. It may be that it is still in pre-release testing or something, but even when they did that last May I think they announced it by email first.

I wondered for a bit if it was because I wasn't running stock anymore, and there was some sort of "report to Verizon" ping sent or something. I remembered that I was rooted back in July, though, and by then I wasn't running Ivan's Official (which is close to stock) but was running Conap's ELB at the time (or Senseless - it was one or the other.)

Has anybody received an email about this?

I'm running stock 2.1 and I didn't receive an email about the update. First I heard about it was on this board a couple of days ago.

Received the update this morning and installed it. So far, the only visible change I've noticed is a new icon for the QuickOffice app, which I never use anyway. Haven't tested the MMS features they talk about in the VZW pdf, and I don't use Exchange, so that's a non-factor for me, too. Still, I am glad to have whatever fixes might have come along with the package.

Rooted my Eris so if I see it ill try to pull the ota off it. Still stock so if they push I should get notified.

Thanks for the help. As scary alien pointed out (way up there above somewhere) the easiest way to do that with a "stock-rooted" phone is just to look inside of the /cache folder with a root-aware file manager when the update notice appears (but before you "accept" it). You can either move or copy the OTA .zip file to /sdcard to keep it from being erased (and also get the file name, of course).

TIA and happy hunting. (No luck for me after 3 days on stock 2.1)

lol...same deal here: nada (but not for as long as eu1, of course).

I am a little excited to eventually get an OTA update for my Eris since I rooted before the official 2.1 OTA came out and haven't received an OTA update for my Eris since I think December of '09. Cheap thrill ;).

Wait, I saw a thread on xda that somebody reported the OTA showing up in xtrROM. I am sure that Zach.xtr did not want that to happen. My guess is that he will be working on a fix.

What you could do is Nandroid backup what you have and then see what happens if you run the update. Otherwise I think it pops up every half hour until you run it, though I think I read somewhere that if you ignore it long enough it eventually stops bugging you.

Not sure; it was reported on the thread in xda-developers so perhaps just wait to see what Zach.xtr says.

Yep, I have xtrROM 5 and I just got the update notice. I'm going to ignore it as long as possible and hope Zack comes up with a fix soon. I read that if you do the update it wipes the recovery also so your nand backup is useless. I don't know if that's true, but I don't want to find out the hard way.

Cheap thrill ;).

All the OTAs (other than this recent one) are still available over in that XDA thread

Consolidated HTC RUU, Leak, and OTA Downloads

if you need the practice - or a cheap thrill ;)

I think that very few rooters have even seen the stock recovery menus - I don't think I had until well after I had rooted. But I did have to learn: because every one of the OTAs contains only patches (file differences, not full files) - how do you generate the complete (patched) result files, unless you run the OTA?

That's a rhetorical question, of course; you *do* run the OTAs, and then get the files off of the phone - making sure that you haven't "diddled" anything in /system in the meantime (That's partly how the "FlashBack21 ROM was created).

OOOOOH OOOOH OOOOOH!

Please look in your /cache directory (using a root shell or a root-aware file explorer) and tell us what the name and exact size (in bytes) of the .zip file is!

PLEASE?

Better yet, do the above, and then compute the MD5 of the thing, grab a copy of it, and push it up to MultiUpload.com and give us the link. (I can probably do that if you just give me the file name.)

PS If you have Amon_RA on the phone, the update can not run because it is not signed the way Amon_RA expects, so you should be safe - but ... let's have that file name... pretty please?

eu one i tried to send you a link via pm but your not allowed, i have the ota in my public dropbox folder. Oh well not like its private anymore here ya go!

have fun I'll be offline for a while but wanted to push this for you guys, build me a nice new rom please ;)

Someone on xda already made a flashable zip for those rooted, but stock. If anyone wants to give it a shot, my Eris isn't with me right now.

I have a stock Eris and got the update a few minutes ago. I don't notice any difference other than there seems to be more signal strength bars showing now.

Oh, good. Now I don't have to keep restoring back to stock every night to try to catch it while I am sleeping. As I remembered, stock is not bad right after a factory refresh, but it got a little sluggish (and battery hungry) after a while.

LOL, yeah that Yahoo! Mail app was bloated garbage anyway imo, I just use IMAP for it. Actually I think yahoo will push to k9 if you need yahoo mail fast.

Thanks gruss!

How many do you have? Is there a triangle above the bars?

If you see a triangle above the bars, that's a "Roaming" indicator.

It also shows up that way if you wipe the activation status from the phone using the stock Factory Reset procedure. (I don't know why it would show that, but I just went through that process a couple of minutes ago, and that's what it did.)

You would know if your phone was not activated, though - no calls, no texts, no google contacts, no mobile web, etc.

Everything OK, justrelaxing? (It looks like a mod came through here, deleted your other thread, and stuck some of those posts back in this thread. Odd, I've never seen that happen before.)

Having moderated forums before, it sounds like the threads were merged - probably because of similar names.

I have a stock Eris. Never been rooted. All previous OTA updates were installed when pushed to my phone by Verizon, so I had Android 2.1 for quite some time.

This morning, my phone had a notice telling me there was an update to my system available. It gave me 3 choices: 1) update now, 2) dismiss it for now, or 3) a button to click for more info. When I clicked more info, it didn't provide any info about what the update would do. It did say that, if I didn't update now, the system update reminder would reappear on my screen every 30 minutes. And it did just that. As stated in previous posts, Verizon has a pdf posted on their website that sets forth what the update affects.

I updated. After the update, I went to settings> about phone>software information, and my kernel version had been updated to "2.6.29-bcb140a0" and my build number had been updated to "2.41.605.6 CL335228 release-keys" and my software number had been updated to "2.41.605.6"

I have the same file that gruss uploaded. 13.36mb. The md5 checksum is 503008DA4FF106E95EFB5700382BCE49 if you still needed it.

Is it safe to clear the cache folder? The files I mean, not the folders, I'm guessing the folders are important but there are several duplicate apk files in there from failed install attempts and recent updates.
