Root Just Rooted My Evo-What Do I Install First?

Holy crap I'm rooted (rEVOlutionary)! Thanks Ocnbrze and all who contribute here!

What do I do next? I read through the guide and some threads to try and discover for myself but I couldn't tell if there was a particular order and don't want to brick after coming this far.

I'm looking at the Root for Dummies guide and see Recoveries, Nandroids, Roms, Kernels and Themes.
Is there a particular order in which I should attempt to complete these?

Well. Did revolutionary successfully install clockworkmod recovery? if not you need to install it. Or another recovery.

Yes, clockworkmod recovery installed successfully. Thanks. Does that mean I don't need to do a Nandroid (or is clockwork a nandroid)?

clockwork mod is your recovery. but i would do first is to switch recoveries to amon ra. it is much better. you can get instructions on how to do it in the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html.

after that i would try mikg2.56 to start out. it is a very slick rom that is very fast and stable. it has sense 2.1 and sense 3.0 built in. just make a nandroid backup and try it out.

Welcome To the Rooters Den :)

You should always always do a nandroid before you do anything else. As Ocn said you will probably want to switch recoveries over the Amon RA. Its a much better recovery. Make sure you have a Good Recovery on your computer. This is very helpful for when something does screw up your phone. This recovery should contain your Wimax as well. Flashing can be very addicting so try not to go overly crazy and take time to read up on the ROM you want to flash. Check out its know issues. This can save a lot of time trying to get answers for a problem that hasn't been solved yet. IF every in doubt then check with us. Again welcome to Rooting may all your experiences be pleasant ones

A faster way to switch recoveries is actually in the ClockMod App to Amon RA.

Open the ClockMod app and scroll down to where it says alternative recoveries or something like that, then just click on it. Once the Recovery has switched to Amon RA, you can either delete ClockMod or just leave it and not use it. This is what I did.

you are right in that it is faster, but this is a good time to learn about using the PC36IMG files. that knowledge might come in handy later on down the line.

also i do not like rom manager. it is way to buggy and can create more issues then it is worth.

Thanks for the help. Your warning regarding going 'flash crazy' is timely as I am excited right now but will temper that with caution.

Question: when you say "have a good recovery on your computer" what does that mean? How can I put a recovery on my computer?

I just installed amon ra and deleted the PC36IMG from my card. Venturing on now to load mikg2.56
Add my list to the many that have come before me that are grateful for your inaluable assistance in voiding my warranty and slipping the bonds of bloatware. I literally wouldn't have been able to do it without the wiki you created and your input.

i think that he means to have one nandroid backup saved to your computer. make sure that you have one nandroid backup with your wimax keys saved someplace safe. it is very unlikely but possible that you could loose your wimax keys by flashing. if you have one nandroid backup saved, you can use it to restore your keys.

I performed the superwipe and am dl'ing mik2.56 as we speak. I did not place a nandroid on my computer prior to doing so, just have the one on my phone. Fingers crossd I don't lose my wimax keys.

Q1: Once I have my rom flashed can I make another nandroid?
Q2: I know I should know this but exactly how do I save my nandroid to my pc? Is it a file on my sd card?

1. after flashing your rom, i would get everything setup like you want it then make a nandroid backup. that way if you want to go back to this rom, you will not have to go through the hassle of getting your phone just right all over agian.

2.you nandroid backups are found in the nandroid folder on your card. and you just move it to the pc via usb. also if you want to you can name your nandroid backups so as to not get it confused. all i do is add the name of the rom to the orginal name that amon ra sets up. here is an example: supersonic3dBDS-20111013-0157. just do not add and weird symbols or spaces in the name.

Thanks. MIK2.56 is now installed. Going to look at some themes now.

MikG is an awesome start, you won't be disappointed. :)
Once you get that set up remember what Ocn said.....make a nandroid backup. It is essential you do this and you select WiMAX when you run your backup. Trust us, it seems like a pita, but you'll find out sooner or later when a flash does some weird juju and you need to nandroid out to get the piece working again.
Stop back in and let us know how the MikG treats you and we'll get you rolling on a custom kernel and setcpu.

Ps: welcome to the forums, and flash-a-holicis anonymous! :D

Thanks much Granite1. I'm wading thorugh the world of themes right now trying to figure out where to find them and how to install. Once i get my phone customized I will definetely make another nandroid.

You read my mind regarding kernels. I've been reading ocnbrze's wiki on them, next I'm going to read about MikG to see if there is a compatible kernel I should be using. Figure I better walk before I run though.

Cheers.

Have to admit, this is kind of fun.
