Just wondering, how many iPhone refugees here?

Oops! No I didn't intend that. I'm just genuinely curious what the actual costs of a Verizon iPhone plan would be. Maybe you can PM me. I won't point and laugh, pinkie swear promise. Like I said, I'm contemplating joining a family plan next year myself to get more smartphone options.

I really like using Skype video for calls. That is a sweet feature on my Touch/iPad, except that the cameras are really crappy. And of course the Optimus has no front facing camera, nor do I expect VM to get phones with front facing cameras any time soon. Plus having a phone with a 5MP+ camera and LED flash would be nice for my travel blogging.

yeah I know that wasn't your intent.. I was just joking around. As soon as my bill posts online i'd be more then happy to give you a breakdown of the charges and fees.

the camera is really nice on the iphone too and I've been really impressed with the hd video recordings.
 
Firstly I fully agree that paying $120 per month for cellphone service is a crime against humanity and the cellphone companies have got us all against the wall with out pants down. I was on At&t for two + years and every other call here in Boulder, CO dropped and data was faster on a dial up modem from the 90s compared to my iPhone data speed!

I was almost on the verge of dumping my little old unlocked 3gs two days ago but a few thing made me hesitate and sign up for a T-Mobile 1500 mins month to month plan (no data) for $30pm for the next month or so.

At $129 the Optimus V seemed like a bargain but now they've jacked up the price to $200, still cheap to buy a phone outright but $200 is not $129!

I got to play with the phone a little at the store and noticed that the touch part of the phone seem laggy, even compared to my old 3GS. The screen also seemed cheap. I then tried a download speed test and got 500k down and 200k up - slower than crappy $14pm ATT ipad data plan! Probably something to do with out gentrified town that doesn't allow cellphone towers too! Calling around for prices I was told by the radioshack guy that sprint limits that data for Virgin Mobile, probably BS and the guy in the Sprint store could tell me how the coverage was around Boulder either.

Google voice integration seem just as convoluted on a droid as it does on an iphone. Google really doesn't want to piss off the carriers by allowing you to make calls over 3g it seems. 300 mins is the bare min I'd need. Sure you can install a VIOP client and register a phone number to get GV to dial etc, god I've been trying to make that work for the past 6 months and it's still flaky.

The killer android feature are the Google Maps GPS integration and the voice control. Apple will have this in IOS5 via Siri and their own mapping service but for now Android is ahead of the game.

The itunes app store rocks but yes having to plug in your idevice to download music blows my mind but in a few months this should all be history. The Skitcher app gets rid of that for podcasts.

Also have you seen some of those new 4G phones, huge, not exactly pocket size.

Anyway this is my 2c from a confirmed Apple fan boy, I may even get an Optimus V just to play around with as the hotspot feature is nice but I can see how the average non-technical person. 90% of all new smartphone buyers, (no one on this forum) would be totally and utterly confused by the sheer number of Android phones and may just walk over to the white and shinny apple store where they have exactly one choice to make!

You really cannot compare a iphone to the V,first even at 200 that is still good,how much would the iphone be, to buy outright 600,700,that is crazy, i could buy nice laptop for that,for that price it better be superior to every smartphone on the market,but,with going VM is not so much the phones they offer, but the cost of service and at the end of the day if it works well where you plan to use it,thats all that matters,you see the phones Verizon & At&T give you to sign a 2 year contract,they are far inferior to the V,and now you are stuck waiting the 2 years out to update you quickly outdated phone,so you can get somewhat of a discount,where with VM,you are not married to it,the V is an entry level smartphone,so if you research it you will know what you are getting,i for one am very pleased with the package as a whole,but most people that will give negative feedback on the V are the ones who do not mind shelling thousands a year over to signing a planned contract.

$700 is crazy. I paid $300 for my 3GS two months ago; crazy that this 2 year old phone has such a high second hand value. I sold my 3G for $200 so I paid $100 for this phone.

And I'm the first to admit some of us think about the deep physiological questions of Android vs iOS way too much :D -

That is what you pay without a contract 699 for the 32 GB 4G,but to be fair the Attrix AT&T sells with the dock is more.
 
I've had my V for a little over 2 weeks now. I love this damn phone and I am a hug fan of the android operating system. My friend had an ipod touch 3gs and an ipod 3g and they are cool, not gonna lie. But I just find android phones more "fun". My brother just got an ipod 4 for verizon and its sweet. I wouldn't mind having one but I love this optimus and my $25 a month phone bill!
 
I absolutely love my V, got it after turning down a free iPhone from my boss. Why would I turn down a free iPhone and get a V? Three reasons:

1- Customizability: With the iPhone, you get IOS and that's it. With my V, I've installed 6 different ROMs in the past month. Each one had features an individual might like, and finally I settled on the one I like (CM7). This will never be possible with the iPhone.

2- Price: Even with a free iPhone, the cost per month are triple what I pay Virgin Mobile. The first years savings alone amount to about $500, which I can use to buy an Android tablet (which will be better imo than the iPad).

3- Apps: I actually like the fact the Android app listings are smaller than those of the iPhone. While the iPhone lays claim to have the largest number of listings for apps, the truth is that the majority are redundant, and actually finding something you didn't know about in advance is almost impossible. Not to mention the fact I can write my own apps, and not worry about the master of the universe's approval to get it in the app store.

From my point of view, and I admit it's always been a bit skewed, iPhone=limits Android=freedom

I have been through almost every phone VM has and the OPTIMUS is the best. I was paying about $80+ a month and just couldn't do it anymore.

It's funny when I look at Verizon, Sprint, or ATT now I laugh because they are charging 20 bucks a month for unlimited texting.

I'm waiting patiently for the next VM phone......this is the next rumored phone can be found here. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!
