Root [KERNEL] Franco Kernel Discussion (r68)

And yet another one... R47 is available. I couldn't help but laugh at the bug fix!

i have been following franco's thread for a while now. r47 seems to be the most stable without SoD and audio clipping. looks like its time for me to give it a try finally. :)

I'm on the n5 stock and after watching this thread for a while, I bit the bullet and rooted (finally) and then bought the kernel and now am running r47. Everything seems to be working great except after I setup my work email exchange on the phone. Now, when I go in and have it sync, it just constantly hits the phone with trying to sync/synced, trying to sync/synced.

I don't even know where to begin in kernel settings to solve this outside of what Franco has already configured in the base version. Any suggestions? I also checked the net for any talk of the bug and haven't found anything. I can't really take a screenshot to show the error, I would need a screen video. It's just constantly flipping the sync in exchange.

Thank you for your attention!

Thank you Rxpert83. You are correct is is most definitely not the kernel. I just had it in my mind that there was a correlation between the kernel and the error. Funny how we make up those things. I rolled back the kernel to stock and it still has the same sync problem which wasn't an issue with the phone before or at least I didn't think there was. I'm trying a total wipe and reinstall of the stock software to see if that will fix the issue. If I still get error, then it's time to talk to corporate IT.

I just recently had the same issue. I noticed my battery was depleting quickly and pinned it down to my exchange account. Opened up my sync settings and saw the same as you, constantly trying to sync over and over again infinitely.

Turned out that the issue was with our exchange server. Weren't getting any emails in the office either. The phone was trying to sync but couldn't.

I just temporarily changed my sync settings to never while the problem was being fixed.

You might be right on to talk to IT and see if there's an underlying issue.

Should have came back to post results! When I wiped and returned the phone to stock, loaded everything back on, configured exchange and then rooted and loaded the kernel back on, everything worked perfectly.

I actually wanted to come back and say how freaking awesome this kernel is. I still think I need to tweak it because I can get about 2 days without a charge. Taking things slow because I know things need to settle through usage.

The Franco kernel rocks!

Two days!?!?! Damn! Post your settings?

I can generally get a day out of mine (minimal usage during work hours but a bit heavier at home).

Vomer's tweaks is a good place to start:
Franco Tunables - Uber Battery - N5 - Pastebin.com

I use a lot of his settings without the one that makes 4 cores always on (hotplug control load threshold=0).

I also use someone elses voltage table that was really aggressive UV, but can't find it right now :o. Still looking
Edit: found it :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52133867&postcount=27640

It really depends on how you use your phone though. I mostly listen to music or podcasts, so having 4 cores on while awake doesn't make any sense. However, for people who don't do a lot of that having 4 cores on can help the device get to sleep faster.

Rad, thanks :)

If I were to flash the vomer tweaks will there be any conflict with the built in DU kernel tweaker?

The flashable zip runs a script that is going to set them at each boot, so there may be conflicts if you change things within the FKU app, which will also try to set things at boot.

I've always just set them manually. There are not that many, and you might find some new things poking around in there ;)
