Root [Kernel]OptimusM OC stock 2.2.1

you could always take any of the kernel update.zips(for your phone) that flashes the whole boot.img, open it up in a archive viewer and replace the boot.img with your boot.img

mind you if you are gonna use your nandroid backup, make sure it's a backup of your CM7 boot.img and not your STOCK one.

reason is the boot.img also contains the ramdisk. this gets the system going(init scripts, mount points and services).

I plan on having multiple nandroid backups to use, each one stored and noted on my computer as to what they are (rom/kernel). I do want a *stock* one in that arsenal, as well as one for each rom/kernel setup I try. That way if I wanna go back to one, I can, without having to reset all the little details/apps/etc. I'll keep the *stock* one handy so if I do ever sell the phone or I need to bring it to Metro PCS for anything, they see stock/unrooted/something they will work with. Granted the former is a more likely scenario at some point, but who knows.

You need to go into the cm settings- display( this is not the same as the main display settings) uncheck lock screen animations, actually uncheck both the screen animations options in that setting.

Thanks for the reply. I'm running SenseRom (joneidy) - I think you're instructions were for CM7. What would I change in Sense?

Thanks,
Pete

Well more than a week (maybe 2) and in still stable @ 768/245 with sense rom.in these 2 weeks I had one reboot after tryna open plants vs. zombies which I think just doesn't run well on the M.

Where did you find plants vs zombies for android? I thought it was iPhone only!

Plants Vs Zombies is available in the Amazon AppStore. It was offered free the first day it came out a couple of weeks ago. If you don't have Amazon AppStore installed, install it just for the freebies. I've got almost 40 free paid apps/games from them. And for the record, it plays awesomely on my phone. Doesn't even hiccup when I get an email/text.

No complaints here either after 9 days.
Still at 729/248 w/ Sense ROM
They make such a great couple! :D

The wife is running stock v2.2.1 and it runs very nice on there too, although I do notice some choppyness but that's probably a product of the stock ROM.

First off I want to thank Reppard for his hard work on everything he had done. I want to say I have been running your Rom for 24 hours and I LIKEY!!! It runs almost flawlessly on my optimus m. Only issue for me is a force close of something when phone boots. Other than that it is amazing! As far as your kernal mod, I had issues getting it to boot and stay running without rebooting. I could not overclock at all. One notch up, 729MHz I believe, and things start force closing and eventually it ends up boot looping. I am more than happy to assist in beta testing for you if you wish. Awesome work! I still have yet to learn Linux. :(

yea everyone feels it at first, but like reppard said, before long you'll be doing things on auto pilot

I'm the dev for the optimus c and after modifications for the C, it runs at 864mhz stable on that phone.

But thats after ALOT of changes mind you. Still, I don't see why that isn't possible for you guys as well.

yes yes yes please....we would love to know what you have done. are you saying you're an employee of LG and also have fun with these things on the side, or are you saying you're just one of the rom developers on this forum?

I don't believe he works for LG, he's somewhat, like our reppard, in that he has the knowledge to work on and compile ROMS.

I'd like to see what he means by ALOT of changes. I've been through ever line in the kernels configuration and there isn't exactly alot in the ways of CPU optimization aside from adding governors and changing the min and Max clock speeds. There are some memory management tweaks but that's not going to affect the phones stability at higher clock speeds. That kind of thing depends on the individual phone as has been seen in this thread. I can run at 787 completely stable and others have reported crashes at 729 meaning anything above stock is not stable on their phone. If he's not full of shit then he will be able to back up his claim with some viable tweaks. Other than that I doubt very few if any optimus phones are stable at his stated clock. I've seen about the same threshold of stability on the V that we are having with the M.

Ok sorry noob question as i am new to this i have the sense rom and would like to no how to put this OC kernal on it and is the wifi problem fixed? please and thank you

Lol i like how after you flash it, it says "if your phone becomes non functional please throw it in a lake" so unnexpected....

Hopefully you have custom recovery installed. If so:

Download the zip to your sdcard. r.O.C.K-v0.3-AnyROM.zip THIS IS FOR ANY ROM OTHER THAN CM7.
Reboot into recovery.
Wipe your cache and dalvik cache.
Flash and reboot.

You will need setcpu or a similar program to change frequencies. I have to configure the gbrom so the cmod7 settings will have that ability. Hit the thanks button if this helps and the donate link if it really really helps

I have it running on Sense and love it! No problems with WIFI or anything else for that matter. 729/248 MHz works real well for most, anything higher than 729 usually results in force closes of certain apps, like Market or Maps or can cause the phone to reboot randomly.

so i wiped both my cache and dalvik and flashed the kernal it DID NOT boot loop and my phone booted up properly but when i use set cpu it isnt letting me clock it over 600 ? is there a reason y?
