Root [Kernel][Osiris][JB] Serenity kernel 3.4 OC

umm, how do you know you have the new kernel? the only way to really tell is to install an overclocking software like cpumaster. if the software wont overclock then you dont have the new kernel, if it will then you do. this is basically just a small collection of tweaks, its not gonna really change anything noticable except the ability to overclock

yeah im not that slow i have voltage like recommended even though i do prefer setcpu... but as i said it was weird maybe others that are not having any luck will end up getting the kernel sooner or later because my problem was the same as someone posted earlier it said it was successful but booted to the normal kernel but now its the new kernel.... all it took was a couple days of me eating shit on the phone.. lol as i said maybe it was the unsuccessful reformatting. or that now im addicted to hot booting the sometimes glitchy warp2

no idea dude, all i can say is that A if you didnt wipe the data partition it may not have updated the kernel name in settings, and if you already had voltage control and setcpu installed it may have taken the settings from the original kernel at first and saved them into itself. but that still doesnt explain how you knew you still had the original kernel.
did you try to run the overclocking apps and they didnt work?
or did you look in settings and check to see if they were changed?
or what?
and also im not sure what the kernel would be called in settings/about phone, i cant tell if mine says im on stock or custom but overclocking is enabled i know that much

that was simple i noticed because i had setcpu and it wouldnt overclock and i had the normal govoners and i/o

ah, ok so did you have set cpu installed before you installed the kernel? because if so it probably cached the defaults set originally by the stock kernel. if that wasnt the case then i dunno maybe those are the issues that dtm was talking about
once the non stock kernel is installed the stock one isnt there anymore, end of story, it has been over written, so you couldnt have still had it, it had to have had something to do with the cache

Now that cwm is back up and running I will continue to work on this.

And now make sure you clear cache and dalvik cache!

Op updates, and the kernel finally has name! Enjoy

Serenity kernel v1.0

DTM see what you can do about the kernel footprint it uses a butt load of ram. I would say at least 125mb of ram goes to the kernel alone lol

Its all that pmem!
Testing is kind of hard right now. I will need a group

in my settings/about it says that im on your kernal but everything looks the same. i kinda thought for some reason things would be different. wish i could get rid of everything boost put on there. how do i get rid of everything i dont use?

man we need a kernel to help battery life but keep the speed is really suck battery drain to quick if no using the phones is great huge battery life but once i start using the phone battery drain like in 5 hours

I'm using CPU master pro, its a paid app, but its worth the money.

You can set profiles for different modes, example:
you can set the cpu at 800 when the screen is off or set to 800 when battery is low.

this app work pretty good for me and can extend alot the battery life.

just to let you know its not the kernels fault the battery life sucks, im still using the stock rom at the moment so i dont know if shinru's rom has the same problem but after about an hour even if i havent been using the phone the cpu gets stuck on full power, wont go down at all even for a second

I know for sure that, I'm not an expert :(
But I remember back in my prevail days when Kouma (kernel maker) started overclocking his kernel and that sucker was draining the battery like crazy, then he fixed something in the kernel and battery was back to normal.

I'm using right now the oc kernel from DTM and it has lot of governors that you can test and see witch one fits you best also found this info about governors that may help understanding these governors and their behavior with the battery.

And this is for the I/O schedulers

believe me i understand the governors and all that. im saying that the phone starts using up all the processor, and "on demand" works by letting the processor slow down when its not being fully used, the rom uses more and more of the processor as it runs eventually getting to the point where the processor is always being used by background processes and can never slow down because its always needed to keep ztes crappy software afloat

back on the esteem battery was horrible after a new kernel with minfree values things got way better i dont know anything about this stuff but i thing will be great to get some info from ldrifta he is the one that makes the kernel and make it better battery life

if it does keep kicking things out of ram then yes, i dunno where the minfree values are actually stored i never dug that deep. but i know the rom just keeps eating more and more resources as it goes along, im using this very kernel with the on demand setting and after a while it just gets too overloaded to slow down even if i dont touch it

My rom fixes that issue, No high CPU usage on it and minfree values are in /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree :p

well right off the bat i would suggest lowering the default cpu from 1.4 to 1.0, or at least 1.2, that alone will save much battery life

The battery for this phone is way to small to begin with. And the processor is factory overclocked. Now I am trying to rework the voltages to save some power but your best bet is a combination of shinjitsu and power profiles in a CPU app.
The oc kernel gives you the ability to push the barriers or take it back a little.
