[KERNEL][RECOVERY][SOURCE][JB] JB Kernels + Agat's Recovery

Hmm I'm more excited about better battery life and the low volume fixed and maybe oc and stability. Because from my understanding the aosp jb ROMs are using a modified ICS kernel because they had no source to build from

Hey I picked up Agat's GC01 0.1.0 and I'm not sure what to do next. I've got both the zip and the tar and mobile odin doesn't want anything to do with either of them. How do I flash this kernel?

Ok so once mobile odin 3.65 is installed it wants the d710 add-on installed before it will run. Every partition says "none". When I try to "Open file...", it doesn't show me the zip only the tar, and when I select SXTP_Agat_GC01_v0.1.0.tar it tells me "Partition could not be found in file." What am I doing wrong?

Ok so error occurs in both lite and pro mobile odin 3.65 - the pro version downloads the sph-d710 support file for you so I know that should be working. Problem also occurs with GC01 v0.3.0 and GB27 v0.3.0. My battery is at 46% but I doubt that's the issue. Or is it? Why won't mobile odin work?

Welp I just soft bricked my phone. I downloaded pc odin 3.07 and tried to push the agat gc01 v 0.1.0 tar to the phone as pda but the flash froze so I unplugged it. Now I'm back on fg31 and i need to download another gc01 one-click on account of my original jb flash was on a friend's computer and i dont have it. All i wanted out of that kernel was the ability to back up my phone in case i had to wipe it for some reason - i guess i dont need that anymore! Thankfully this isn't an easy machine to render useless (absent of physical damage). So uh, i guess I'm going rom shopping again.

Odd, I flashed GB27 0.1.0 via Mobile Odin Pro with no problems. I have also been on a Sprint labeled ROM for a long time and Mobile Odin never had issues recognizing it. Until they have the kinks worked out I have stuck with 0.1.0. I don't need the extra governors, and I think some are confused wanting the Hotplug and Pegasus one anyway. the default Ondemand for our phones already makes the second core sleep when not needed (I can watch it sleep and wake with system panel lite)

Word of caution, DO NOT do a wipe data in the recovery. Doing that will end you up in boot loops. this is happening with every custom (CWM/AGAT) recovery in the TW JB roms (I think is has to do with the new format of the partitions). Yes a simple backup and recovery works, but do keep the one click or tar handy as the recovery doesn't backup the /preload. So if you mess up that, then you need to flash the ROM and then flash the recovery kernel then run a recovery.

I have been watching this on XDA and figure I would give an update.

Progress is being made in solving the wiping issue. Enough so, that I see a viable work around should you need to do a data wipe in recovery for any reason. The boot loop is only occurring on the first reboot after the wipe, but it only applies to the source built and repack kernels. The stock kernel will boot fine. So, if you need to wipe data for whatever reason, flash in the stock kernel while your are in recovery before you reboot. Then you only need to install Mobile Odin and flash back in the recovery kernel you had before...

forgive me but what does this mean? better reception/speeds? im currently on stock fl24 rooted and have tried the other roms (pac n black) and besides the sound being crappy the speeds didnt seem to great either. would this possibly fix that?

gb27 and gc01 are the samsung jellybean releases. these are the offical roms. there are advantages to these. some people are happy with ics. hat would be your decision

I am trying out 0.4.0 of the kernel now. So far all is working well. I see both internal and external SD memory just fine, and the phone is smooth as always. and am trying out the governors that were added in.

I still can't get Mobile Odin to work and I don't know why.

Have you contacted the DEV that made it? I know it is working well for me. I used it to flash the 0.1.0 kernel in and also to flash the 0.4.0 in just fine. I have the understanding that it was updated to recognize the phones running a Boost ROM.

Its weird, I flashed the GC01-rooted a few days ago and now when I tried to flash the agat recovery (any release) it flashes fine but it will not do a back-up. It starts it and then says its doing a back up of the boot up and the menu pops back up with those words on the bottom of the screen. If I do anything it gets an error, if I let it sit it does nothing.
