Root [KERNEL]SpeedDemon V5.6 (Performance & Battery Improvements) - MIUI Kernel

1.5 Booted perfectly! gonna start my UnderVolt testing and report back in a little bit with what i can find. i'll document my top-outs and post here.

Good, instead of V1.5, I'll add more stuff then make a V1.7. It will be done by around 4:00.

Edit: V1.7 will have more undervolt frequencies. Then making a couple changes to make kernel faster. I'm going to add the frequencies to the thread. So I don't miss any.

this is what i've come up with for UVing MY phone.

I do all my quad testing with the back of the phone off as to disipate heat quicker so i can essentially test everything sufficiently.

I started with 1.7 GHz because that is what i run normally and did the -100 setting first before anything. That was the only reboot i had what so ever

Each test (meaning ten runs per frequency, except as noted) was done and then a rest period (of about 2 minutes or so) was given to the phone to allow for temperature to go back to "normal"

1.7ghz: performance gov -100 (1250 doesn't work)
performance gov -75 (1275 stable as far as i can tell with my phone)
pulls around 3600-3900 (my top was 3884 using vr i/o) quads consistently.
i didn't get anything under 3600
ran 10 times in a row non stop.
temp rise about 4-5 degrees F
1.8ghz: performance gov -75 (1325 stable as far as i can tell with my phone)
pulls around 3800-4100 (my top was 4039 using vr i/o) quads consistently.
i didn't get anything under 3800
ran 10 times in a row non stop.
temp rise about 6-7 degrees F
1.9ghz: performance gov -75 (1400 stable as far as i can tell with my phone)
pulls around 3900-4300 (my top was 4289 using vr i/o) quads consistently.
i didn't get anything under 3900
ran 10 times in a row non stop
temp rise about 8-9 degrees F
2.0ghz: performance gov -75 (1450 stable as far as i can tell with my phone)
pulls around 4000-4400 (my top was 4387 using vr i/o) quads consistently.
i didn't get anything under 4000
could only run this a few times as it heats up really bad at 2ghz
temp rose in a matter of two tests around 10 degrees on top of what i reported
meaning a total rise of about 15 degrees or so.

edit: i'll test all freq's in given time. and see what their limits are and report back with sufficient data.

Uninstall the wallpaper.
Go into recovery
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Flash SDKernel again
Install Wallpaper.

This problem is probably just you, possibly the dalvik cache being wiped when wallpaper was still installed.

You mean in Incredicontrol setting?

~~~
V1.7 is coming up when b_randon14 comes online... I'm have encountered a problem. Im going to try to fix it myself till then.
ya it was really weird. i finally got a reboot at -300 and then it rebooted when i tried -175 again, so i pulled down to -100 and everything's ok for now.
Its sad I cant use this kernel myself...
~~~
I edited main thread, main thread now includes features in V1.7, even though it's not released yet. Also, frequencies for undervolt and overclock have there conversions next to them.

nevermind i saw that they are included
can't wait to test the new build now i just have to charge my battery fully because all the UV testing i've been doing has killed it off pretty quick.

Thanks I'll be sure to do that when your 1.7 version comes out later today. Everything else has been working great though so nice job on the kernel!

Thanks, I just waiting b_randon14. Doing some research I see more stuff I can add, stuff to save more battery too.

Why?

I would like comments/feedback from each update, instead of people just download the kernel and using it.

~~~
V1.8 is out. Download link is up, should be faster than V1.2!
Well how much internal space freed up varies from user to user, it should be around 20MB, but for people just flashing the kernel the first time it could go as high as 100MB.
that would be awesome to get 100mb freed up also what governor would you suggest for the best battery life without losing performance? im stuck between interactivex and smartassv2
EDIT: is the kernel gonna stick with ext4? i think ext2 would be better knowing the risk
Added info on governors and io schedulers in OP:
Here's a link to a pretty good description of what seems to be most or all of the known available governors and IO schedulers in use in Android kernels by knzo at xda:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242323
His summary:
To sum up:
(in my (knzo's) humble opinion)
  • Battery: 1st place - InteractiveX | 2nd place - Smartass | 3rd place - SavagedZen
  • Performance: 1st place - Minmax | 2nd place - Smartass2 | 3rd place - SavagedZen
IO Scheduler:
To sum up:
(in my (knzo's) humble opinion)
  • Performance: 1st place - VR
  • Reliability: 1st place - Simple
Up to you, maybe savagedzen.
After using your 1.2 kernel I got a bit higher quadrant score. Eager to try this next one. Thanks for your work! I really like the extra stuff added
Thanks, the next update will be V2.5 or V3.0, something to save more battery, couple speed tweaks, and more I/O's, or Isaac's next/final update; which ever one comes first.
