Kind of disapointed...

So i received an offer from MetroPCS about upgrading. After the upgrade offer, and mail in rebate, im only paying around 70 bucks for this phone. I know you get what you pay for....but...

It was slow, lagged like hell when just using keyboard. (1x net speed wasn't horrendous, I will admit). I was ready to take it back, but I went to Google to make sure it wasn't something I was doing wrong as a first time droid user.

So far I have

  • rooted
  • Installed GO Launcher
  • Installed Advanced Task Killer
  • a few apps ie Gmail Facebook , World Of Warcraft authenticator and a few others
  • Started using Dolphin for browsing
  • removed and backed up data with TITU
Probably a few other things I'm missing.

After successfully rooting, things were running smooth as long as I killed apps when using numerous ones in a short period. Fine, no big deal

I installed Go Launcher 1.41 this morning, and its seems its super slowing me down. Is there something else I need to do to tweak that program? If not, how do I uninstall that launcher.

Any other tips for smoothing it out some, the lagging keyboard is going to drive me crazy, probably will return it.

I looked around a fair amount and couldn't find answers to my specific questions. Seems like a nice community.
 
If you can,keep checking in here every hour or so,it starts getting busy here approx. 4:00-5:00P.M.,that's when the "pros" start showing up,namely NY11725,JOSER116, & Jazziette.They have been a tremondously invaluable resource of info for myself & others.Or,leave one of them a PM, they will get back to you.
 
I'm in the same boat as you as being a little disappointed with the speed and lagging. For the price and compared to my old phone it is totally worth the price. The only thing I can tell you is try and wait until version 2.2 and see how much that improves the speed. I hear a lot of great things about how much the OS is sped up.
 
Thanks for the quick responses so far. Unfortunately, I work 3-10 everyday EST. Maybe the "pros" will still be up tonight! I can check at work now, obviously, and will try to provide any questions to answers they may have
 
So I did some more researching, got rid of Go Launher and advanced task killer. Downloading and installing Cache Mate for root. Will update if it helps any.


Before I ran CacheMate it said

Used 112 mb
Free 61mb

After it ran, which took about 2 minutes, it "liberated 14mb ob space."

Opened the program again and it says

Used 113 mb
free 76 mb.

Not sure what to make of those results. Just posting for one of the knowledgeable folks later on.
 
For the keyboard lagging, you can try to download another one. I suggest you download Better Keyboard from the Market. It improves accuracy and and it doesn't lag. Also, a reason for why the keyboard might lag is because of the vibrate feature. To turn off vibrating, go to Settings, Keyboard, Swype, and turn off vibration.

Try Launcher Pro, it is the smoothest launcher I have tried. You might also want to root to uninstall bloatware which will free up some memory and make your phone faster.
 
If you root, you will also have the capability to make your phone faster, or as it is formallly called, overclocking.

Thats exactly what I said before. Did you read it in one of my posts in Jazziettes thread on making the phone smoother? I think you got it from my post because you replied in that thread cause that's exactly what I said.
 
Your right the keyboard id terrible and can't keep up with you. I downloaded an app called Better Keyboard. Its $2.99 and it works great. It can always keep up with me and works great with the Ascend. It will definately solve your keyboard issue.:)

Joser is right. I was hesitant to download Launcher Pro but I am really glad I did. It makes my phone run smoother and you can have really cool looking menus, buttons, and live wall papers. When you fist download it you'll be confused because every time you open the menu it will ask you if you want to use Canvas Or Launcher Pro. Check the Set As Default Button and select Launcher Pro or it will switch back to the original Android Canvas.:)
 
If Advanced Task killer is bad what would recommend? I notice often that several things will open just out of the blue, like youtube and messenger, when I use Go SMS.

No I did not copy you, I've saud it before plenty of times already. I say it when ever someone mentions it.
 
Just got home from work. Thanks for all the replies.

Yes the phone is rooted. Task killer is gone. Launcher pro is downloading as we speak.

Is juice something or another worth it for battery life?

And can anyone toss out a few keyboard suggestions, as long as it works with swipe, as I have fallen in love in 24 hours with it!!! Thanks again

Not trying to start s**t but, you need to lose the I did it first attitude. Most of what people post on here was learned from someone else somehow. If I get banned, atleast it was said.

I was gonna say something yesterday but figured I would let it ride. I noticed the same thing with all yesterdays posts. I don't care who did what when, where or why as long as answers are provided with respect to others.

Lose the king of the hill attitude PLEASE? I for one respect what you know and realize how much you contribute here. So thanks.

What king of the hill attitude? What makes you think that? If you read my post in echosr thread about his wifi problems with the tether app , I said I was joking. I ask you to give a good example of how I portray that attitude please.
 
Trolls, they are everywhere !! This thread has awesome info that plenty others will be able to put to use. So lets all play nice and keep the thread abut these phones. Thanks!

2 people noticed it. How many do you think noticed it and said nothing? I almost said nothing until Foltz61 brought it up. As I read all your afternoon posts yesterday, I thought, what's bugging him?

Cause you say you were joking does not mean it came off that way. As Foltz said above, "I'm not trying to start S***". I'm pointing it out. You see it your way and I'll see it mine.
