Root KitKat supporting 512MB RAM devices.

So is marquee getting this or what? :)

Android KitKat developers site:

Android KitKat | Android Developers

If this is possible, I would love to see this come to the Marquee. In my opinion, the Marquee has proven to be a very "solid" phone. It is still quite capable for my use, and the addition of the features that KitKat offers would extend it's usefulness even more.

I would be willing to donate to any developers wishing to breathe new life into this phone.

Yes while KitKat is supporting devices with 512mb of ram, doesn't mean you'll get the update. Porting it would be your best chance. Although its going to be very interesting to see how carriers select the phones on who's getting the update or not on future phones. Will it be the same as its always been which is update the latest phones they recently got and not update the old ones even though they can support it all because they want users to buy their new expensive devices. Or will it change with Kitkat where they will update the phones that can obviously support which is a lot.
If Boost were to switch to the second method I mention. They would probably update all the phones to 4.4 that originally came with 4.0 ICS as well as the ones that they recently updated to 4.1.2 jb. Or they might just stick to the old method of updating their most valuable phones like the Samsung galaxy s3, optimus f7 and the HTC one sv. All because they want you to buy their latest phones. This method applies to all carriers. That's how its always been with android phones.

Yeah, and porting will (probably) have all the same issues that the devs have been having with ICS & JB. So, until that gets worked out, I wouldn't hold my breath.

I see manufacturers using 4.4 on their future "lower spec" phones, but they don't have much incentive to spend time and money upgrading the ones already out.

They'd just rather have you buy the new device.

That's not to say it isn't possible for community support

That's the thing, I don't get it, all that about "512MB devices supported" knowing that maybe none of those will have an update.

I think part of the reason they are stressing the 512mb device supported is because the newer versions of Android may not just be aimed at smart phones. Smart watches for example are one thing a lot of hardware developers are trying to perfect, and it's a lot easier to perfect it when you have working hardware and software capable of carrying out complex tasks on much less memory that older versions would have used.

All the devices that boost has released with ICS has 512MB of ram or more if remember correctly. Will they all get the update? Probably not but a few might. It would be nice if they just skipped 4.2 and 4.3 and just go straight to 4.4 and call it a day for the phone. What do you mean by " I don't get it, all that about "512MB devices supported" knowing that maybe none of those will have an update."???

I tried to explain in my post above (but was unclear), its not upgrades they're targeting, its getting manufacturers onboard for the budget phones coming out in the future.
