Yes while KitKat is supporting devices with 512mb of ram, doesn't mean you'll get the update. Porting it would be your best chance. Although its going to be very interesting to see how carriers select the phones on who's getting the update or not on future phones. Will it be the same as its always been which is update the latest phones they recently got and not update the old ones even though they can support it all because they want users to buy their new expensive devices. Or will it change with Kitkat where they will update the phones that can obviously support which is a lot.
If Boost were to switch to the second method I mention. They would probably update all the phones to 4.4 that originally came with 4.0 ICS as well as the ones that they recently updated to 4.1.2 jb. Or they might just stick to the old method of updating their most valuable phones like the Samsung galaxy s3, optimus f7 and the HTC one sv. All because they want you to buy their latest phones. This method applies to all carriers. That's how its always been with android phones.
That's the thing, I don't get it, all that about "512MB devices supported" knowing that maybe none of those will have an update.
