This sounds pretty cool. I love to see new features! They often pave the road for new innovation and competition.

So it uses an invisible laser beam to measure distances from the camera to the subject, allowing for super quick auto focus and faster shooting?!

What do some of you camera savvy smartphone users think about this feature?

Zero idea how works. Must have one.

Somebody call 4chan and fire up the meme generators. :D

I have zero idea about the underlying technology but am looking damn forward to getting one in the hand. Pretty sure I'm not alone on that.

The infared laser is only new for phones. My DSLR flash units have had them for years. They are great!

No, those are different. The flashes project light within the visible spectrum. They literally light up the subject with a light with a pattern in it so the camera can see the subject to focus.

This system is different. It bounces an (invisible to the human eye) infrared beam in the shape of a cone and measures the time it takes to come back. It can then calculate the distance.
