Latest i9100 modems

Am I alone in thinking that Shotty is a lot more efficient at this than he was when he owned an SGSII?

(If I didn't know better, I'd say he was just renaming the same old modem and re-posting it.... nah! :hmmmm:)

You know what it's like butty....trying to impress the S3 in-crowd.

Give it a couple of months when his feet are squarely under the S3 table, his all too familiar slap-dash attitude will be there for all to see again.
:D

On a serious note, for a change, I was using the LQ5 modem for a few days last week.

During that time it gave me a consistently good signal everywhere I went and was certainly on a par with the LPX modem that I have been using for about a month.

However, when I was at the Twilight Zone pub, notorious for its very, very, low signal, I lost my signal! This never happened with the LPX which allowed me to make calls and browse the web. I, luckily, had the LPX modem on my SD card and quickly flashed it and bingo... my signal was back.

Admittedly there could be a couple of reasons that the LQ5 could not get a signal but it just seemed that whilst it functioned well in a medium to strong signal enviroment, it failed in a very low signal one.

I think I need to test LQ5 and LQ6 further on this. ;)

Shopping is not high on the ironass to-do list... come to think of it... its not even on the list!

However, very occasionally, I am forced to go to a supermarket and today was one of those occasions. After risking life and limb in this totally alien world, understood by only women, I made my way to the car park and whilst I waited for both the car, and myself, to cool down, I decided to test out the new LPX modem that I'd installed at the weekend and see what the phone signal and GPS, on LPF firmware, were like.

The results speak for themselves...

Sorry for my ignorance but Lower Net Strength means better or worse. For instance -65 is better than -85?

Thank you!

Yes.

Low dBm + high ASU + High Percent

Easy way to remember is... Smiley Android face is good... Sad Android face is bad! ;)

Strange, I'm finding that with my operator, Vodafone, and my location, that neither LQ5 or LQ6 are as good for me as LPX.

As I mentioned in a previous post, They all operate roughly on a par in strong and medium signal areas but if I go into a weak one then only LPX stays connected.

Yeah, I'm on Voda too and signal is pretty dim around here at the best of times, but LPX gives me asu 7 consistently at home whereas LQ5 and LQ6 both give higher but less accurate readings...sometimes up to 10 or 11 in the status bar but with zero actual connection.

Just had a little problem, not sure if its ROM based (Neat lite 1.2) or modem based (nelp4) though.

When out of reach of wifi, or after turning wifi off, my mobile signal was also lost. So no data & no voice - a total loss of signal. A reboot has fixed the problem, but wondered if anyone had any ideas as to why this would happen?

i just tried out NELP3 and i'm getting +85 reading which is an error and network signal info shows me 100% consistently. did i do something wrong or is my phone not compatible with the modem?

Network Signal Info cannot read the ASU correctly for certain modems. NELP3 seems to be one of them.

Even I think this may be a foolish question...but I suppose no question is foolish if you don't know the answer.....

Can you flash any modem? No matter what Rom you are running? Can I flash xxlp5 if I'm running uhlps for example?

Apologies if this has been mentioned but due to the fact that nelp4 is acting like a spoilt brat for me,I can not check previous posts on my tapatalk app

Yeah you can, I'm running uhlps also and I'm using LQ5. Think I'll head back to LPX though just to see if it performs any better.

I thought I'd update. I was having problems with modems, but to cut a long story short, found a couple of the problems were not modem issues but app issues. Hence, I retested a few and have settled on NELP4. I had tried a few including KH3, NELP2, NELP3, LQ5 and LPX.

NELP4 gives better signal strength in the places I've tested. I'm on T-Mobile UK.

Last couple days my signal is completely all over place. One minutes screen says H+, next no signal icon. Network Signal app shows a sad face even when H+, you can imagine the face when in bad areas!

Just now was mid phonecall, showing H+ then phone cut off & had no signal for 10-15 seconds, unable to make calls.

Is this solely down to modem? I'm on LPX (Neat Rom Lite)

Not sure if connected but my battery life's dramatically reduced too.

Had the same problem mate, tried to ring my girl and it kept giving me an error saying something like mdmi chip error or something ... nelp 4 is not doing me any favours and I'm on 3

I'm on O2 and - putting their recent problems to one side - I've been underwhelmed with recent modems. I've tried LPX, LQ5 and NELP4 and none of them are giving better than -97 dBm when I look at Network Signal and my battery is getting stuffed. Any tips? Do I need to let each modem settle in for a few days, or should I see results immediately?

Hi turbohobbit!

The O2 firmware comes with an LPW modem and I have PM'd you with the details as they obviously seem to favour this one.

It is a fact though, that what works for one person in one region on one particular carrier, may not work for someone else. There are very few modems that seem to be universally acceptable. These are the one's that generally work... KE7, KH3, KI3, KI4, KL1, LPS, NEKF2, NELP2 & NELP3.

I always give a modem 1 or 2 days to, "bed", in before pronouncing sentence.

Many thanks mate. LPW seems to be doing the job so far. Not super-turbo-nutter-b'stard reception everywhere, but I think that's O2 rather than the modem!

I wonder if S3 modems will work for us.

Currently have a problem with Vodafone's connection dropping (I am on three, but I go onto Vodafone's network when I leave 3's coverage, or when I force it hehe - faster speeds but the connection dies every 1-2 mins).

My brother's new S3 on vodafone seems to handle juggling 3G, H and H+ fine so I might try flashing that modem if the S2 varieties fail.

Side note- it seems that in order to flash any files, you must have an insecure kernel loaded onto the phone (despite annoying claims to the contrary), which is a pain in the butt since I've forgotten how to do it (I still have the stuff though).
