Root Latest Launcher Pro Update Cures Lag on GB

Guys,

Just a heads up...

The Launcher Pro update that was just released today really has seemed to dramatically improve the lag I was experiencing with both the 573 and 588 Gingerbread builds.

Check it out, and see if you have similar experiences.

Take Care!

Hopefully he can incorporate swipe gestures like Go Launcher has. I used to love LPP but then tried GL and the swipe gesture are a must have for me now.

yeah...says it reduced memory usage "considerably" so that is probably why...

It's flying so far for me.

Just a note: I use homescreen caches but I set them to "compressed" instead of "normal". No noticeable change in responsiveness but MUCH smoother. When it's on "normal" I get a lot of lag using screen previews.

i would suggest trying "light"

if you want to see the reason why i suggest "light" try this...

put it at "normal"...change your screen transition to "flip" and SLOWLY slide your finger and watch the transition...then change it to "compressed"....do the same thing...then change it to "light" and watch the transition...

This version is worse for me.

I was on Signal's s23 modded 841 LPP, and that was fine.

I then updated to this version, and used the themes via market, and it is lagging more than usual.

One way to make the launcher smoother is to use the default 4 columns, vs 5, on the homescreens. LPP really doesn't like using 5 columns.

Where do you find/change these settings? The Update seems to have improved performance for me.

When I tried this the "flip" transition it acts completely different depending on what compression I select. Normal" and "Compressed" work as the flip should but with the "light" setting doesn't actually flip the screens, the second screen slides in part way while the original screen is flipping, once you reach half of the flip the original screen slides out while the second screen finishes flipping in. It's hard to explain, hopefully the pics help.

Regular Compression

App drawer still goes ape when switched to landscape for me. Transitions seem a bit smoother on this update though.

you're right, i had it backwards...

I had an issue where the app drawer went blank as in no apps appear. I know this had been mentioned before pre-Gingerbread even but I found a solution not requiring a reboot when this occurs. Go into LPP Preferences by pressing left-most button and choosing preferences then select Restart LauncherPro. This restarts it and populates the app drawer as should be.

I gotta say I like the latest lpp plus. Very nifty. I don't feel as if it's as smooth as the stock gb launcher. So, I'll be freezing the LPP and sticking with stock. I gotta say, I love the new launcher folder shortcuts.

Cleaned this thread up a bit...

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, no need to bash others because they prefer another launcher more. There's a way to have a nice, civil, creative debate and that was just not cutting it. Let's keep it cool and and on topic in here please.. :D

I'm waiting for the complete rebuild of LPP before I unfreeze it and try it again. I bought LPP and was loving it, but it slowly got more and more laggy, fragile, and tempermental. GoLauncher cured all of that, and gave me more home screens, swipe gestures, a kick ass app drawer to boot. So I'm sticking with it until he releases his total rewrite (thought it was supposed to be ready by now???).

But I'm not here to slight anyone who is on LPP and loving it. If it's working for you then that's great. Glad to hear it.
