Root latest root method

ive been searching for hours! where do i find out what root method i can use for my evo? i need to root asap so i can ship the phone out today. thx

Unrevoked will work for all Evo hboot versions now. Follow the Rooting for Dummies guide (the sticky in this section) for how to do it. Just to be thorough, what is your hboot version? Turn the phone off, then turn it back on while pressing and holding the volume down button to get to hboot, and find out.

i already tried that. unrevoked just says waiting for phone. i have debug on. i dont know what htc sync is. its a brand new evo nothing installed on it. and when i select hboot its says no image? i installed the drivers on my pc. what am i doing wrong?

Try installing, then uninstalling HTC sync. Sometimes you need to have had it on your pc. You just don't want it installed when you run unrevoked. You can get it from here:

Do you have a PC36IMG.zip file on the root of your sdcard. If you do did you put it there before or after trying unrevoked? If you have one, remove it.

EDIT: Are you getting a menu after that? If so, that's what's supposed to happen.

do i uninstall it through phone or pc?

Install it on the PC, then uninstall it. It doesn't run on the phone. There are a number of other things to check, that's a start. Also make sure you don't have any antivirus programs running.

no i dont have PC36IMG.zip file. and it goes back to same menu right after tht

If it just goes to the normal hboot menu (gives you the option for fastboot, recovery, etc.), that's normal.

ok i installed and uninstalled and same problem. unrevoked stuck at the waiting for device screen and debuging is on

its working now i took it off disk drive and put it on charge only or something like that

how do i unroot? reflash with odin?

Now I am confused. You wanted to ROOT, now you want to UN-ROOT?

i dont need to unroot it. but i wanted to tell the guy who bought it on ebay how to do it, incase he ever needed to take it to sprint. i remember a evo i had a while back had unrevoked and it was a bitch to unroot. factory reset didnt work, i had to pay to take it to someone else and i dont even know how he did it. it took him a long time though. the first 3 times he tried didnt work. oh well

Oh, yeah, you definitely need to keep it on charge only. Sometimes it's the simplest things...

Anyway, a factory reset won't unroot the phone. See the Rooting for Dummies guide - section 5 under "After Rooting".
