Root Let's buy a developer!

Ok, then users wont pay for the code, but for bandwidth, or extra apps or something else some symbolic value.

I like this idea a lot!

Though I'd be willing to chip in, as a newer member of the community I'm hesitant at the same time. Any assurance the money would be used as expected? Sounds like drakaz is trustworthy, and willing.

I'm gonna keep an eye on this thread. :)

it is a lot about trust.
bear in mind though that we only put a few pounds in each last time and within 1.5 days we had about

Though I think this is a good idea to get things moving in the right direction, I dont think you will get that much support, especially from those of us who have had this phone from day one and are now coming to the end of our contracts.

Once that day arrives I will be getting an HTC device and will not be looking back.

I am sure given the complete lack of support from Samsung there will be many more following suite.

consider tho' that when you sell your galaxy to get that new htc, you'll likely get more for it if it's running fully functional

In case you didn't know, the Galaxy is still being sold. In my local phone store, it's still on the "new device stand".

Canada is always late for these things.

alot of people are on 18 - 24 month contracts from last year meaning they have another 6 months - 1 year left

HAs anyone approached Drakaz regarding this? Potentially he could make some nice money but that might not interest him.

Someone registered on his boards please post a link to this thread so we can at least know if he is interested. If he is interested then we can begin to sort out a donation jar.

He saw the thread, didn't say anything though. Seeing that gaosp development seems to be fast nowadays I think the action is no longer needed. We probably can just donate him when he'll release final version to thank him.

There are several devs working on GAOSP doing little bits, how to you determine who gets what split of the donations? It's because of this that there were no donations set up for GAOSP.

Drakaz does accept donations for his work on Galax0 though.

I'd love to work on a project like this, but I can't help but feel that my inexperience would be more of a hindrance than a benefit.

I'll commit 20€ for this.
My Galaxy cost me 185€ and, for that price, represents great value for money, even if it stays on 1.6.
I am willing to invest more money in my Galaxy, if this brings me a snappier interface and better battery life.

Cheers!

Oh I'll show support with a big fat donation to his tip jar once he releases latest Eclair 2.1. I have Recovery 5 already installed and I'm refreshing his page a couple of times a day looking for a new update.zip ;)

I'm interested in this, but am a bit confused with what we're trying to do. I'd really love android 2.0 on my i7500 as much as anyone else, but isn't that what drakaz is doing with Galaxo 1.6.3.3 ? (or is it a reference to android 1.6?)

galaxo started out as 1.5 and is now 1.6
gaosp is 2.1

;) I just finished reading through the FAQ and came by to edit by post, but you replied too fast for me !!

To clarify - we're collecting for someone to port/update the gaosp development, right ?

We're not collecting, but we're talking about it.

There is more than one person working on GAOSP. I could name Drakaz, Buch, Sado, Korline, etc etc... It would be hard to give them the money, as they didn't work the same time on GAOSP, and achieved different things.

Looking at Drakaz's twitter page, it appears as though he's complaining that he actually did 98% of the work. Don't know if the other devs agree with that, though :)

Edit: Maybe we can set bounties for the different areas that need to be addressed (camera, bluetooth, sensors spring to mind). Might be an incentive for others...
