Root Lets root this thing.

shabby isn't saying it was a scam but more of a assumption to think one root method works for all devices which might be the case here. unless he has an actual coolpad device or has someone trying it out the methods hes never going to figure it out. ive worked along side with shabby for a while now he was the first to compile a custom kernel for the metro branded gs3. so i trust his judgment alot.

Ok he did say he had a coolpad, either way who or whom ever roots it thanks!

i sent a pm on his site well see...... "some members over at Coolpad Quattro 4G - Android Forums would like to possibly work together rooting the coolpad quattro 4g if your willing to share your work or progress"....... so we shall see what happins!

His response, At the current moment i am not interested no hard feelings just last time I done something like that they took it and claimed it for their own (like stole it from me) and didn't even give me no credit, etc... Sorry. Either way let's see this thing rooted no matter who does it

So let me see if this is correct if he shares the method on his forum its safe from dishonest people taking his work and claiming it to be theirs? But if he comes to this forum and explains his method clearer he thinks someone is going to steal his work? Ahhhh Ok I'm lost. Dunno but doesn't make sense to me. The way I see it if your work or whatever form of contribution is out in the open for grabs people don't need to wait till its on a specific forums to use it. I can already see some funny business going on I won't bother speaking my mind but I think each one of you guys are smart enough to figure this one out.;) anyways I'm confident this device will see root very soon.

No success on this yet, I presume?

I have been wrecking my brain trying to figure this out, but I'm a newbie when it come to figuring out how to root a phone.

Here is a question for ya.. Why did they go back to having the little plastic cards? I guess it's CDMA. Looks like a SD card, but, well, you all know what I'm trying to describe. Looks like a blast from the past.

Tried gingerbreak. no joy.

Oh, and something else that I didn't see on my Optimus M (I know totally different phone, but still).

Kernel version
2.6.35.7
mine@mine-virtual#3

When I see something that mentions virtual, it gets me thinking. Is it running in a Virtual machine type environment? lol, told you Im a newbie.

Anyways we need to get this phone rooted. There has to be a way. I see exploits listed for android 2.3.7 and for kernel 2.6.35.7. Not sure if those will help though.

Shabbypenguin had their root guy play with my phone to try and get root from what I understand he really knows alot when it comes to rooting. So maybe after the holidays and he has time again he can try to find a root method only time will tell

That is your 4G sim, you remove that and no more 4G, you will have to go back to Metro or whoever and get your phone re-provisioned. No touchy the orange sim card.

I as well, have been playing around with some different root methods, with PG's help, but have fallen short.

has anyone ever heard of this app called x-ray X-Ray for Android its an app the checks your phone for vulnerabilities. i ran it and it pops up with vulnerable levitator

def: Levitator
Malicious apps will undoubtedly be “levitating” their privileges using this vulnerability that affects the PowerVR kernel module used for 3D graphics on all S-series devices and allows unfettered access to kernel memory.

hope this might help if not atleast im trying :D

got the exploit, wanna give it a shot? :)

D: so this device is unrootable??

I'd never say never ;).

We really thought our little HTC Droid Eris was unrootable way back in 2010. More than six months of efforts finally led to five different rooting methods (one based off of rooting the Evo (mid.txt exploit), one hardware-based (SD card insertion/extraction--very difficult to reproduce), Z4 root, and one totally unintentional (using the HTC RUU), LOL)). Can't remember the fifth right now...

There's always hope...it's usually just a matter of time and effort, and sometimes, a little luck.

:)

the difference from that was the eris had developer support. and it had root via a popular android wide exploit. this phone happens to be in a state of android os' that there are no big bugs that root everythign like rageagainstthecage did (z4root and superoneclick)

Yeah, we did have some prominent devs working on on the Eris (so many ROM devs, too). It was released alongside the OG Droid on VZW in November '09, so it had a fairly large user community.

Looks like the Quattro was released in late August of this year, so there's still more traction to be had (although you've got an order of magnitude more devices to compete for dev's attention nowadays than we did with the Eris--that's a blessing and a curse, I guess).

True. That's why I try to wait at least a month or so after a device has been released to see what devs have gotten it and who is planning to get it for an upgrade.

Only reason I got this phone was my Optimus M SD card holder broke. It took out a 32gig SD card also. :) I rooted that phone within a week of getting it. My first root ever.

I hope we can get some more traction on this phone. There is so much crap that Metropcs has put on it, I want to get rid of.

I heard through the grapevine that it comes already rooted, but, when I tried to check it wasn't. Was really hoping it was gonna be that easy.

Looked at my tablet, same version android as the phone, and not rooted either (Pandigital supernova dlx).

There has to be a way. If there is a will, there is a way. that's what I was taught.
