Root Lg Ally Froyo 2.2 problem HELP!

d00d669

Newbie
Hello! Im somewhat of a newbie when it comes to things with root but, I have a rooted Lg Ally running Velocity .4 2.1 update 1. My problem is that I do not have a usb for my phone to run Froyo.bat, therefore it is impossoble for me to force the update for my Ally with a computer. I have a stock V8 rom ready(And Trident's Froyo 1.1) but I do not know how to get stock recovery.

The Main Problem:

Android 2.2 Froyo Update continuosly FAILS everytime I try to update it. I do not have a Usb for my phone though. What should I do?

Any help would be appreciated :D

If you got a wall charger from VZW then you should be able to take off the wall adapter and ta-da! It's a MicroSD USB cable.

There are a couple of apps in the market that allow to connect your to your pc wirlessly, the way it would with USB. How well they work? No idea. You could also try drop box, i'm not sure whether or not it has size limits or not. You can also download the update.zip directly from the provided link with a non-stock browser such as Skyfire. Just make sure you are on a wifi connection for the best fidelity of the file.

How to Root LG Ally Android 2.2.1 FroYo - LG Cell Phones Blog

I have a question. I just bought Two LG3 Ally Android ( Verizon Carrier ) I can unlock it, but they say I can't use it in the Philippines because it doesn't have a CDMA system there. But, now they are coming out with LG Android there. Does anyone know if I should bother to pack my LG3 over there ?

You wont be able to use them on the cell network therem there are 2 kinds of cell networks, cdma (verizon/sprint and other without SIM card) and GSM (tmobile/att/ect. .) Verizon does have global phones, blackberry and the droid2 global maybe more. But the ally is just incompatible. Rooting it wont give you the ability to use it on a different kind of network.

Get a cheap USB cable? Theres really nothing we can do if you dont have a USB cable. Sorry. Just curious, How do you not have a USB cable? The LG Ally comes with one.

Wifi adb will help with adb commands, but unfortunately you cant use fastboot over wifi, you need a cable to do this....

You can buy them for less than a dollar on ebay

I really dont know what im doing wrong with the update .zip
Any other suggestions?

I believe that means that there is something wrong with the updater script. I recently had the same error using the UOT Kitchen. The fix being I had to get the updater-binary out ot the original Velocity1.1 .zip file and replace it.

I think you need to download the ROMs .zip directly to your phone and flash it that way. I recommend using the skyfire browser for the DL, and make sure you are connected to a wifi connection.

Once you have the ROM on your phone, flash the .zip from the recovery and you should be good. i've done it this way a couple of times, and as long as the .zip is uncorrupted it should flash fine.

What is the name of the updater-binary file? Also, I have gotten to the Velocity boot image thing but it hangs on the "Velocity" Or boot loops, am I being impatient?

How are you flashing the velocity image? If you already have a custom recovery (amon-ra) you need to wipe your cache and dalvik cacher at least before you flash the ROM. It would probably be best to do a factory data reset, though.

If you're getting to the velocity banner you're already past what the updater-binary does, so i wouldn't worry about that. WIPE EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU FLASH THE ROM.

Im just wiping my phone (AmonRa) And then choosing flash zip menu then I click the velocity 1.1 Realease, still getting bootloops tho

I bought them on EBay U.S. and live in Canada. Cannot find anyone locally to unlock. Does anybody know if Verizon will unlock...OR a phone number for Verizon Customer Service in the U.S.A.. Their Webpage contacts won't work here.
