For me buying the connect is a waste of money. I have the esteem,4g speeds,plenty of memory and the phone is fast enough to handle what I put it through.

Agree. Plus its screen is 4.3 inches compare to the 4 inches of the Connect, so it makes the Connect look like the little brother of the Esteem. Those .3 inches makes a difference. I still believe that the Esteem is the best phone from Metro.
And until they come up with another phone with 4.3 inches (screen) or higher, no need for me to upgrade.

It's kinda crazy the metro raised the price on all their phones just cause the connect came out, but like i said before that's metro for you. I'm noticing the wifey was looking at it and look at her Esteem and was like No im keeping mines. But in near future i might pick one up, but i really dont see the point tho unless my buddy hook me up again like he did with the Esteem.

Agreed. The connect seems like more of a downgrade from the esteem, less memory,smaller screen,no hdmi...I mean seriously.

For the record, the LG Connect 4G is a better phone than the LG Esteem. Hands down. It crushes the Esteem in the categories which count the most regarding performance, CPU/RAM. It's obvious that you guys with the Esteem don't want to feel as if Metro's flagship device has been dethroned, but it has.
The Connect 4G, with its 1.2 GHz dual core CPU, 1GB RAM, and Corning Gorilla Glass NOVA display is what makes it the top device on MetroPCS. The 4GB of internal storage isn't as spacious as the Esteems', but 16GB, class 10 SD Cards are dirt cheap these days $17.35. 32GB solutions can be had for as little as $34.99, so storage is a non issue.
The single-core processor, coupled with 512MB of actual RAM on the Esteem just doesn't have enough of what it takes. Looking at the benchmarks here, the phone requires a custom kernel, OC'd to 2016 MHz, just to pull off a score of 4800. The Connect 4G achieves 5061 right out of the box, without any custom kernels, GPU tweaks, etc. Once the Connect 4G does start receiving mods, it'll definitely be lights out for the Esteem.
So whether you have an Esteem or not, the Connect 4G is the definite winner. BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if TV out works through a MHL adapter.

I think the point is that an extra 512 MB of RAM is not worth the $300+ price tag.

What we are trying to say ( at least) is that it is not worth to upgrade FROM the esteem.

Preech all you want about how mighty the connect is, I could afford to switch phones but since I have a esteem that does everything what sense does it make to go out and spend 319+applicable taxes. Honestly the whole this is better than that crap with cell phones is stupid, we all know that something else is going to come to metro that will shame the connect eventually so this argument does not even matter

It's much more than just more RAM Squirrel, although, an additional 512MB of RAM would be very noticeable on the Esteem. However, I do understand where you're coming from regarding purchasing another phone so soon.
Reading through the thread, Jeyd, people are saying a lot more than that. I just wanted to clear things up for anyone looking to purchase the device. Even if you have an Esteem now, it's definitely worth upgrading to a Connect 4G as it is a much better device. Due to its single-core CPU and small amount of RAM, the Esteem sluggishly runs many apps/games. A dual-core device with 1GB of RAM resolves this. Everything is pretty much butter smooth. You may say the same thing about your Esteem until you actually use a more powerful device as your daily driver.
I'm not preaching at all Carlos. Those were facts. Actually, I use to think like you. I missed out on nice phones by holding on to my HTC Incredible for so long. I figured that because it was doing everything that I needed it to do, why bother? It got to the point where I realized that I was fooling myself. Certain apps, games, and HD videos struggled at times. That was unacceptable, and I hated it. So, after a while, I had to accept the fact that a single core, OC'd CPU just isn't that deal anymore, and hasn't been for a long time now. I decided to go with a Samsung Galaxy Nexus on the day of release. The difference is night and day. Everything that my Incredible struggles with, my GNex handles with ease; at 1280x720 no less.
I purchased the Esteem for my 11 year old daughter right before Christmas 2011, and it's a decent phone for what its capabilities are, just not what you would call a powerful device. She does all of her talking & texting without issue (minus an occasional random reboot or two). However, the problem is that her OC'd CPU still struggles on certain apps, games, and HD videos which are better suited for a dual-core CPU which utilizes multi-threading. That's just the truth of the matter.
Currently, my wife is considering a new device to replace her over-the-hill Blackberry Curve 8530. While she could go with the Esteem, after personally rooting and customizing it for my daughter, it's nowhere near as capable as people make it out to be. I know this first hand.
Those of you who have the LG Esteem and are happy with it, that's great. I'm not at all trying to convince anyone to upgrade or purchase the Connect 4G. It's just that the name of this thread bears the title of "LG Connect 4G", which I found through doing research on the device. After reading comments which implied that the C4G is a downgrade because it has "less memory", or "my Esteem has plenty of memory, so why bother?", I felt the need to register and enlighten people to the fact that internal storage is not the same thing as memory (RAM). Moreover, if you don't have a dual-core device with 1GB of RAM to actually compare to your Esteem, how can anyone call the C4G a downgrade? That's a really good question, because, if you've ever owned one and used it daily, you definitely wouldn't make such comments. Your entire outlook on higher end devices would be different.

No, wrong. In fact it is NOT worth the upgrade at all. Why? Well, first of all the only thing which could be considered an upgrade would be could/ram and maybe display. But that's about it. Other than that its useless as the rest of the connects' specs are "inferior". And basically why I emphasize that it is not worth it is because for the $300 all you buy is a CPU/ram, that would indeed be a total waste of money (unless you are rich) because the esteem fairly handles everything and more with the overclock. I agree with you the could connect may be way better in performance but , overall? . Instead of that wasll total waste, me and other esteem users are waiting for a BETTER overall upgraded phone that exceeds the esteem's specs by far. And that would be a wise waste on the supposed $300+, a real upgrade.

The only thing that the Esteem has over the Connect is the front facing camera (1.3MP > VGA) and more internal storage (8GB > 4GB), two advantages which no one would consider a wow factor. Anyone who views the remaining specs can't deny that the Connect 4G is the superior device, which more than doubles the performance of the Esteem.
What more could you be expecting? There isn't going to be a device with specs that blow the Connect out of the water any time soon. Please don't mention the HTC One V. It'll fall short. So, what's up next?
- 1.2GHz Dual-core > 1GHz Single-core (even OC'ing to 2GHz killing CPU)
- 1024MB RAM > 512MB RAM (2x's better here)
- 4" NOVA display @ 480x800 > 4.3" Standard TFT display @ 480x800
- ~242 ppi pixel density > ~217 ppi pixel density (C4G much sharper)
- Multi-threading > Single-thread (This is a definite factor)

yes in fact it DOES overshadow the Esteem in terms of performance FOR SPEED AND MULTITASKING! i talk to my fmily with the FFC so that it a big plus. at the same time, the extra RAM doesbt help at all vecause i wouldn't use it due to battery life draining faster. the screen is a definite improvement as far as technology goes but the Estwems .3" bigger is nice too. if this screen is fine to whomever is using it then there is no winner there in either performance or cosmetics because both size and technology fall uder both of those. the CPU speed will be a little help or some people of course. so really the only thibg i would be buying is a smaller but better screen and a faster processor when this one is deinitly acceptabke especially when i can run thisbat 2.1 all day with no reboots. RAM won't get used but tye Pricessor would bit i am not paying $320 for a smaller better screen and a processor that even with decently intensive apps won't see a huge difference. i know you are going to saybtuat we will but i know it won't he that big of a difference to spend $320. now i am buying it for my GF to play with it more while i keep my esteem as my primary. Connect in fact does beat us in performance stok though when it comes to that little spec sheet but not enough. FFC, ebough RAM for me, and a processor that is acceptable definitely and a bigger but not as nice is good enougj for me to keep this for right now.
It's the same root exploit that was made for the LG Spectrum.

I would like to respectfully disagree with you on a few points.
- First off, multi-tasking works best if more threads can be utilized by the CPU (Phone or PC).
- Second, more RAM doesn't drain the battery faster by any significant margin, if at all.
- Third, the additional RAM will most definitely get used as it is what most determines how many different actions you can perform smoothly. When the Esteem starts to feel sluggish, the most probable reason is because of the RAM being well below 100MB free, and the device is in the process of freeing up more. That's a non-issue with 1024 Megs.
- As far as the processor is concerned, if you truly believe that consumers won't notice a significant difference, your understanding of how dual-core systems operate is sub-par. The CPU's split the work-load evenly to get the job done more efficiently. This way, no one processor gets over worked (this is a very simplified explanation).
More and more devs are going to start coding their apps to utilize multi-threading more often. Pretty soon, single-core devices will be obsolete.
I've been rooting, beta testing, flashing kernels/radios, etc for years now. I'm not new to this, I'm true to this.

no not at all as i still have the Galaxy Nexus that i traded to play with also. the galaxy nexus is better than the EsteemIMO so why would i be upset about my second best device being 2nd best? also did i not say in my initial post that the Connect hardware, techhically, AND spec sheet wise better?

So let me ask you a question? Do you have the esteem It seems like you are pretty knowledgeable on technology which is good and all but you can't really say the display is better. Granted it has a Nova display but I can magically change my dpi to 160 if I wanted... Yes its brighter but who cares dude? I can see perfectly fine on the brightest day. I'm not saying that the connect isn't better than the esteem, I'm just saying that they both have things that make them stand out.
I dont care about camera or screen size. Nor have I used the HDMI. Thats not saying that those aren't more important to other people though. Like I said in the other thread over there that I will be getting the connect so I'm agreeing with you to some extent. Have fun with the connect.
