Help LG Connect 4G

HDMI....HDMI.... HDMI
So let me ask you a question? Do you have the esteem It seems like you are pretty knowledgeable on technology which is good and all but you can't really say the display is better. Granted it has a Nova display but I can magically change my dpi to 160 if I wanted... Yes its brighter but who cares dude? I can see perfectly fine on the brightest day. I'm not saying that the connect isn't not better than the esteem, I'm just saying that they both have things that make them stand out.
I dont care about camera or screen size. Nor have I used the HDMI. Thats not saying that those aren't more important to other people though. Like I said in the other thread over there that I will be getting the connect so I'm agreeing with you to some extent. Have fun with the connect.
I don't have the Connect 4G demarsjcd. I purchased the Esteem for my 11 yo daughter back in December. I've rooted it, installed custom roms/ kernels, etc. I know exactly what the esteem can do.

Regarding the Connect 4G, as far as what I've seen on reviews, and based on the specs and real world testing, logic has proven it to be the better device, IMO.

People, let's keep it civil.

I am posting for everyone involved in the bickering and name calling. This is not acceptable behavior. If you have any doubts at all, review the site rules and guidelines that you all seemingly agreed to when you signed up. The next violation will carry infractions. You will get no further warnings.

Remember, the cardinal rule in opposing viewpoints on Android Forums is we attack issues, not each other.

Let's get back to the much more interesting discussion of the Esteem and stay on topic.

The only thing that the Esteem has over the Connect is the front facing camera (1.3MP > VGA) and more internal storage (8GB > 4GB), two advantages which no one would consider a wow factor. Anyone who views the remaining specs can't deny that the Connect 4G is the superior device, which more than doubles the performance of the Esteem.

What more could you be expecting? There isn't going to be a device with specs that blow the Connect out of the water any time soon. Please don't mention the HTC One V. It'll fall short. So, what's up next?

  • 1.2GHz Dual-core > 1GHz Single-core (even OC'ing to 2GHz killing CPU)
  • 1024MB RAM > 512MB RAM (2x's better here)
  • 4" NOVA display @ 480x800 > 4.3" Standard TFT display @ 480x800
  • ~242 ppi pixel density > ~217 ppi pixel density (C4G much sharper)
  • Multi-threading > Single-thread (This is a definite factor)

Like to thank justsayingbro for his intelligent, and thoughtful posts. Letting the specs and explaining what they entail, speak for themselves.

One thing though.... with benchmarks not that far apart, and you not having a Connect, how can you be sure it's 2x better? Performane wise. Just saying bro,.... pun intended.

I have the LG Connect and I'm so far very happy with it. It's my first cell, so I can't compare it to anything.

This is my first post and will be looking for help in rooting at this great forum.

and most of us, if not all, have agreed that technically it is better spec wise stock vs stock BUT like many of us have said, either A. The things it has better we don't want/need, B. Esteem has better FFC(I need it), C. Not worth the upgrade.
Those are our thoughts about it. no point in getting a new house if you dont need the extra bedrooms.

Ok. "everyone" have to understand that LG connect is FASTER than the esteem, the specs clearly do the talk. But also you have to understand that when already having the esteem many people appreciate it more because they ( or we) simply own it. Some people are satisfied with their esteem until something really good comes up and for those who doesn't have esteem , there is a really good chance test out the connect . If you like it, bingo!!!! its yours. However if you don't then get esteem , simple as that.

But the fact is in PERFORMANCE wise the connect its the device but in terms of features, cams and other stuff then its people preferences ...

I have bothe the esteem and connect and was suppose to sell my esteem for the connect ha i love my esteem to much it is a bad a## phone but come on what true is true the connect is by far way better in every way does not mean the esteem is crap just second best for now. Don't knock it till u try it

Thanks ohbaby. Lol@pun intended...but no, I don't own it. I did go in to my local store and test a few things out for myself (salesperson's phone), and the device is pretty damn amazing. If it sucked, I'd hold no punches and call it as I see it right here. Trust me.

The Antutu benchmarks aren't that far apart because of the Esteem's 2GHz overclock vs the C4G's stock speeds. Out of the box, the Esteem's speeds are a different story. Completely stock, with a Class 6 microSDHC card, the Esteem scored 3244. Running the same test, but choosing the internal storage as the SD card resulted in a score of 3282. When comparing those scores to the Connect 4G's stock results of 5200+, it speaks pretty loudly, IMO.

[Question] What do you get when you root a Connect 4G, debloat it, flash a custom kernel, and overclock it to the highest stable frequency?

[Answer] Magic

I concur...the Esteem is a decent phone, but specs are specs, and performance results are official.

ugh, IMO opinion camera is part of performance.
I think the point is if you just got or recently got the Esteem there is no sense in running out and buying the Connect. Now if you have a lesser phone and looking to upgrade then the Connect would be the better choice. ;)

Think we'll see the Extreme series on the Connect any time soon? Would be amazing!

So you did check out the Connect. Cause I was wondering.....
I chose the Connect for the speed. And its pretty fast. Surfing is a snap.
But the call quality is pretty poor IMO. Sounds scratchy when it's not breaking up. Doubt there is mod for that. Anyway, I have my mini pc,.... I just wish the phone calls were better quality.

TL;DR: Stop bickering with each other. It's win-wins for us all.

I honestly don't see the big deal. Our Esteem was released half a year ago. Why wouldn't Metro release better phones by now? My opinion is no, it's not worth $300+ to upgrade from a $300 phone regardless of the Specs. There will be better phones than the Esteem and Connect released later this year and they will be cheaper. I'm sure everyone with an Esteem is happy. And those of you who'd rather a slightly smaller, very (lol, edit) faster phone is happy with your Connect. I for one, am glad that the phone company I stood by for years, while all my friends laughed in doubt, is finally releasing high-end phones. I could upgrade if I wanted to, but I'm satisfied. I haven't had any problems that are the phone's fault. I multi-task just fine, it's all about knowing how to manage your phone. Though as a MPCS customer I would suggest anyone looking to upgrade from the low end MPCS Androids go with the Connect 4G not only because it is the newest most up to date MPCS phone but because the sales on these devices determine the future of Metro for us all. Don't discourage newcomers from buying a newer phone just because you (we) don't have it. Compare, contrast but don't bash, guys.

Bingo!

Also, I just bought the Connect for my wife, its a nice phone but would I go out and buy 1 to replace my Esteem?.... Hell no. The Esteem does everything I ask of it so the Connect is not an UG for me but my wife had my old Optimus so it was most definately an UG for her. BTW, I am also unhappy with the call clarity on the Connect.

Well first we have to wait on lg to release the src, but I prolly wont do awhole lot til I have one to dev with. I am already working with shabbypenguin on cwm n k0nane seems interested in this phone, so it will prolly see some great dev work soon. ;)

Just wanted to add my 2 cents...

A rooted Esteem with bloatware removed and a little bit of optimization runs smooth as hell...even though it's only single core and 512 or whatever mb of RAM.

Yes the Connect will always out perform it since its specs are better, but you'll have to go through the hassle of selling your Esteem first...which may not be as hard as you think, but unless you're a gamer I really don't see the urgency.

Those 3D graphic card intensive games and apps are the ones in which you'll really notice considerable difference in performance when it comes to Connect vs Esteem. Elsewhere...if you root the Esteem...meh...nothing too major other than maybe a little less "screen lag" when you're scrolling through a web page.

i'll add 3 cents. lol.
the gaming on my esteem is prety amazing with zero lag and graphics are perfect. HD games feel great so i don't think the connect's gaming will be much greater than this. esp when im ovc at 1700

Paying $350 to upgrade to LG connect from my esteem, which was also $350 when it came out? No thank you I'd be paying that much to upgrade if the phone was ICS and 4GLTE ready :), otherwise my esteem is doing fine on its own, and I'm a heavy user.

i think he basically gets it free because he works there. not sure. but my job has a contract with ATT and we get all our phones free.to trade and all

Obviously you'd be selling your Esteem privately so that your upgrade cost to the Connect would be much less than $350 out the door, but again...I agree...not worth it anyway unless you could find some moron who would buy your used Esteem for $250+

Exactly

Nothing its just that it really doesn't work, like the youtube app only works on wifi not 4G also the web browser when I try to go to youtube.com it just keeps in loading but never shows the page, also it lags a lot but the main problem is that it freezes and reboots constantly ... So yeah -_-

You have reached monthly limit you ******
