LG G3 Pre-release/Rumor/Speculation Thread

with vzw I'm guessing 199 on a two year contract. What I am hoping for is 199 by one get one free like the s5 and m8.

I'm not with vzw, so their subsidized plans don't bother me.

I hope it will be $599 or less outright to compete with s5 etc.

can't believe I am willing to pay even this price for the phone. :smokingsomb:

What don't you like about QHD?

In a "spec-driven world", this sort of concerns me: SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974
The increased resolution will contribute little to user experience unless you look at your screen through a microscope, but it will put greater load on the chipset and battery, potentially decreasing performance and battery life.

And I don't believe for a second that it will have the same chipset as last year's model. With greater screen resolution, it's going to need more power. And there are lots of rumors about a higher Snapdragon 800 variant.

Could it look something like this?

Speculated look:

Supposed actual device:

Source of the speculation.

The most interesting thing to me on the speculated look is what appears to be the absence of a power button with the volume buttons. Looks like they may have moved it to the side perhaps?

Tbh, I wouldn't mind if they separated power from the volume keys in one way or another. I do tend to get them confused sometimes. I have the vzw variant though, and they reduced the size of the buttons which might have made it a little trickier to discern by feel.

My comment about that has always been that I like it but I think they could tweak the arrangement slightly for a more intuitive feel.

It's interesting to see all the expectation for the s5 give way to complaints in the s5 forum. I suppose that will happen here, too. I'd rather see the complaints before I buy? :p

LG G3 will reportedly launch in late June or early July
Robin Sinha, April 15, 2014

LG seems to be planning an early release for the LG G2's successor, the LG G3. The Korean tech firm was previously said to be planning an August launch for its flagship smartphone, however it is now being said the handset might arrive sometime in late June or early July this year.

The news comes from a senior LG official (via ZDNet Korea), according to whom, the August release of LG G3 might prove to be too late based on the current market conditions.

On Monday we saw the LG G3's alleged user agent profile and Antutu Benchmark results, both of which revealed a bunch of features for the smartphone. Furthermore, LG also confirmed the inclusion of a Quad-HD resolution (1440x2560 pixel) display on the smartphone, without confirming screen size or the device's name.

Previous rumours had indicated a 5.5-inch display, which would give the LG G3's display a pixel density of roughly 530ppi. The AnTuTu benchmark also points out some additional specifications such as Adreno 330 GPU, OpenGL ES 3.0, and multi-touch support. The Sprint user agent profile additionally shows the handset will run on Android 4.4.2 KitKat along with a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of built-in storage that can be expanded via microSD card (up to 64GB).

Reports from last month suggest the LG G2 successor will be water-resistant like several of the new flagships (Sony Xperia Z2 and Samsung Galaxy S5) seen these days. It was also mentioned that while Samsung had teamed up with a Korean firm using the Liquid Silicon Moulding method to make its Samsung Galaxy S5 water-resistant, LG might go ahead with its own native technologies in the LG G3.

I've heard anywhere from May to August. I think the May release was not terribly believable but June/July sounds far more likely. I do wonder who the "senior official" is and if there's any record of that conversation.

Whatever the case, it sounds like one thing is sure. With leaks already hitting this fast and hard in April, there is interest. I think a LOT of interest. Looks like we'll have some time to kick back and have fun with this thread as things unfold.

Next up:
- all new spec rumors.
- Best Buy cut sheet leak. Photoshop conspiracy theorists on guard.
- blurry pic.
- vzw site workaround/glitch to reveal early accidental listing.

:D

True, but this will NEVER be as popular as the gnex thread. Nothing will. (Steven shows respect to the thread).

No it won't. But yet those events listed above are still quite likely. Its gone that way, or similar, on more than just the Gnex. Almost feels like a standard recipe for big releases. If we get a lot of eyes out there, that's when the real interesting (and many times comical) stuff starts to show up. :D

We may not rival that thread in scope, but we can still have the best G3 rumor thread on the interwebz. :)
