LG G3 Pre-release/Rumor/Speculation Thread

As long as root is simple so the card write privileges can be open and kill apps with TB, I would be happy. I am not a rommer anyway.

Nova, card writes and a few app kills are good for me :)

Then if Kingo gets it, you ought to be fine.

I'm bimodal. I love simple. But I love it on my own terms and sometimes I'll mod for weeks to get it.

i was 2 busy 2 see the presentation, so I'm trying to catch up. sorry for being stupid. can we tell which carrier gets which specs or not?

Wow July release date?

If it's coming to Verizon in July, by then I doubt I will care and will have convinced myself the Note 3 I have is more than good enough by then.

Nevermind Note 4, iPhone 6, etc. are going to be close to getting unveiled by then.

At that point, it probably best to pass on the G3 and wait to see what those devices have in store, and by the time the holiday season gets here I won't even consider buying a 6 month old phone cause, HTC/Samsung will be about to unveil a new device.

Vicious cycle.

Don't announce if you aren't ready to launch, IMO. Apple is good at this, and HTC/Microsoft is getting good at that as well.

Anandtech is reporting more on the detailed specs: AnandTech | LG G3: Launch and Hands On

Biggest disappointment -- same IMX135 sensor as the G2, which is in fact... the same as the Galaxy S4? I'm pretty shocked by that. Even the OnePlus One and Oppo Find 7/7a use the updated IMX214, and this is a more premium phone. Hopefully there's some mistake here. If they updated the front sensor but did nothing to improve the back then I'm really questioning that decision. Of course a lot of the quality on cell phones has to do with their software determining exposure and white balance and tone curves, but a new sensor would have been a clear step up.

For real photography I'll be using my camera regardless, but still, my phone's with me 100% of the time and my camera only 5%.

in any case, the proof is in the pics. will need a hands on.

Liking a lot about this phone..however really want 3GB Ram and 32GB Storage.
Will have to be patient and see what Tmobile UK will offer.

Looking forward to seeing some 'proper' reviews on how it performs.

If Sprint and T-Mobile have 3/32 Configs, then AT&T and Verizon Will as well, because it would be idiotic not to at least match that given their prices are insane compared to those carriers and everyone is doing EDGE-type plans these days, anyways (they also run the risk of Sprint/T-Mobile undercutting them on device price by offering the better config for little to no price increase on the hardware).

The question is when the device will get released. If it's not until July, then that's too bad for them as far as I'm concerned. I have a very small window to "get got" when it comes to smartphone purchases, Lol.

And there are some nice tablets out there that I can get with this cash...

While watching the presentation, I couldn't help but notice that I'm probably not their target demographic... all of the "simple this" "simple that", definitely not targeting the technical users. Intuitive, streamlined design is good for everyone but such an emphasis on simple in the marketing was definitely coming off over the top, almost to the point of seeming dumbed down.

I think this was purposely done to show those that have chose SAMSUNG devices that there is a comparable phone sans all the BS gimmickery that TouchWiz presents,if not an outright slam on it.

Most here are adept at navigating any mfgs U/I,but,the GP isn't.

All the goodies appear to be on-board w/the G3,ditto w/HTC's latest efforts,in a cleaner interface.

Bring on the simplictiy in navigating all of it.

Yes, I'll definitely be looking out for a good comparison test. So far there are some comparison shots here: LG G3 review: hands-on | Stuff . Just based on that it's looking about comparable to the G2 aside from some white balance issues, and of course better than the One M8. It sure could be the same sensor as the G2.

Edit: this doesn't mean it's bad in any way, it's just not bringing a new level of image quality compared to the G2, and will be a little behind the Galaxy S5 in most conditions aside from low-light. Again, these are smartphone cameras though, for more professional work where there'd be a much bigger difference in quality I have a real camera.

Obviously market success tends to depend on appealing to the widest number of people. Anyways, it's not marketing that decides whether I get the phone or not. So far it looks real good, definitely the best currently out on the market. I'll be intently waiting on battery life tests & objective analysis on the screen quality.

Lol... sounded like marketing pitch for advertisers, which is easy to sell, if done right. But, I agree. The "simple" motif was a bit annoying.

Steven's gut reaction:

Not a ground breaking Phone, as hyped, but has minor games changes. I think I'll pass.

Steven out

Umm, not hardly.

Cause LG phones are stocked to the rim with gimmicks. As many as a Samsung phone, easily.

The G2 performs comparably to the S4 and Note 3 in Low Light. If this is using the same Sensor then I expect marginal improvements in image quality there (because it will focus easily and much better, and it has the OIS the G2 had as well which helped it there), but it will not best the S5, which is easily better than all of those devices in Low Light.

Laser Focusing won't allow the same sensor to pull in more light just cause it's on an upgraded handset.

Fair enough, one man's gimmicks are another man's features.:)

I just prefer LG's gimmicks over SAMSUNG's. ;)

Many of them are the same or very similar, in some cases a different means to the same end. Knock on the screen or Wave your hand in front of it, for example.

Their multi-tasking implementation is terrible compared to Samsung.

Many of their camera features seem copied and pasted from Samsung phones - in fact some of the UI in some of their apps look[ed] almost identical to Samsung phones.

LG is the wrong OEM to use as a counter example to Samsung's bloat, because they've been copying practically every bloaty thing Samsung has been doing for the better part of half a decade by now. I actually wonder if they share some tech/code between each other, TBQH... Especially given they've taken to using same or similar Camera Sensors, Camera Software, and Dedicated ISP chips lately...

The only example LG's bloat has on Samsung is the fact that a lot of Samsung's features are tied to a Samsung Account (which to many people won't matter, since it's a set and forget sort of thing, anyways).

I'm not interested in this phone because it's simpler (it's not) or offers better features (it kinda doesn't) than a Samsung phone. If I wanted "cleaner" and "lighter" then I'd get an HTC, Apple, or Nokia handset :-P

If the camera sensor is the same as the G2/S4 then that's a showstopper since that's one of the main draws to upgrading to this device. Software can only do so much with that Sensor, without making the low light images look worse than they do from the G2/S4/Note 3 already... Not interested in Selfie Cameras...

Who is not the issue, how is. Kingo is unacceptable for me.

Without an unlocked bootloader, constant trips will have to be made back and forth to unroot, update and root.

Any exploit will be fragile enough, relying on a web service to be there "someday" when needed is not a root strategy I can live with.

IOroot was made from Vroot's exploit and was packaged into a zip so that it can be run and re-run from a local machine. I'm not sure if that would meet your criteria or if it will happen again but I'm guessing that it will. Obviously just speculation on my part.

Much of the original development seemed to come from members of Team Codefire. I think they may have somewhat disbanded as an official team but individuals still contribute on LG devices in particular. I could be wrong on the disbanded thing, not sure and I don't want to give bad info there if I'm wrong. Anyway, I'm thinking the odds are good that we might see a similar tool spin out of that group or another (hoping).

EM mentioned it a while back, and while I don't even recall what method I used to unlock/root my G2, there were never issues.
Upon a reboot in CWM and now TWRP which I switched to, it prompts you to patch whatever issue screws with root and no problems after that.
