Root Link2SD and you (a tutorial)

I'm testing the Astro cloud backup now. You can longpress a folder and upload all the files at once. They don't upload in that folder though it seems. I just see the individual files in the cloud, but at least you can multiselect files. I am having a problem restoring. Not sure yet its functional in the beta.

I think your best option is going to be dropbox and Titanium Backup. I haven't used dropbox so I was trying it out. Titanium Backup will sync with dropbox and upload files there. Ti has all kinds of batch options and will make life easier for you I think. I use the Pro version and can't remember if the free version syncs with dropbox. Since you can't backup to a computer, I think it would be worth the investment if you can afford it.
 
I'm currently working on a picture based tutorial for updating a rom when you already have link and do a full wipe. Which I recommend

I noticed that the error message link2SD was giving mentioned /data/sdext/dalvik, so I tried clearing cache and dalvik cache. Rebooted, used ES to navigate to /data/sdext/dalvik, and was able to create and delete files. Tried link2SD again, error remains. More trouble shooting to follow...

I figured out what is happening. Its a file system error, causing the volume to mount read only. Pull the card, pop it in a PC, and run fsck on it. For windows users, you can use Cygwin to get linux tools running. Problem solved!

I have a question, so if for whatever reason I ever wanted to access the second partition on my computer, would there be any way to do that?
 
So I don't know what went wrong, but a while ago I followed these steps and found that it worked. I was able to install bigger apps for a while. Today, I noticed an update for Google+ which is around 8mb and I tried downloading and then the good ol Error: Invalid Package message came up. And then something to the extent of insufficient space. Funny, I have a lot of space allocated to downloading items. I even tried uninstalling after I backed up certain larger apps. I don't understand how there is insufficient space when I have 3gb SD and 1gb second partition. This all started today, can anyone help me?
 
Your rom probably has the 01mvdalvik script. Look in /etc/init.d/ and if you see 01mvdalvik you can move it elsewhere, I moved mine to the root of my sd.

Once this is moved wipe cache and data for the market, reboot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik and then reboot into your rom.

I tried moving 01mvdalvik to the root of my SD card but in the file manager, it keeps saying can't move. Any tips?
 
After you get root permission you need to change the file directory from r/o to r/w. Some file managers you only have to do it once, some on every level of the directory. If the one you have doesn't let you do this try E.S. File explorer.
 
I moved 01mvdalvik because I have been having the same problem as reported above. I used Root Explorer to change it to r/w and moved it to the root of the sd card.

After rebooting into recovery and wiping cache & dalvik, and then rebooting normally, three missing apps returned with force close messages. I also lost about 60 MB of free space and I can't tell why. Apps seem to be taking up the normal amount of space. I have deleted the three f/c apps and repeatedly cleared caches and rebooted, but the low space remains a problem.

I have now restored a nandroid backup so I'm back to the normal amount of free space, but I'd still like to use the move 01mvdalvik suggestion or something else in order to stop the insufficient space/invalid package file errors.

Any ideas on why moving 01mvdalvik to the sd card is causing the phone to lose 60 MB of space, or any other suggestions to get rid of the insufficient space/invalid package file errors? The usual cache clearing suggestions haven't helped.

I'm using Harmonia 2.03 if that makes a difference.
 
That 60 mb was unusable space with that file setup. Really a false representation. So once you removed it you got the actual space count. Are all your apps linked?
 
I use Titanium Backup market doctor to check for missing links, and every so often it finds a few. Right now all apps are linked to the market.

Also when i use Link2SD - Relink Library files it tells me the operation completed successfully, no change in space available.
 
Another alternative to moving/deleting 01mvdalvik is this:

Open terminal emulator and:
$ su
# cd /cache
# mv download download.old
# mkdir -p /sdcard/cache/download
# ln -s /sdcard/cache/download download
 
I use that, and it helps with the "insufficient space" market error. But I still get "package file not valid" after download, and I can't install the app.

Yep, one by one did it. I also notice that "Reinstall" doesn't necessarily work, even though it says "successfully installed". Not sure I trust "Uninstall" either from the Link2SD menu.
 
Hi everyone. I'm pretty new to this and hope I can get some help.

I've had an Optimus V for a year and have always been frustrated with the lack of memory space for apps. I finally decided to take the plunge and rooted with Gingerbreak tonight. That worked fine. I'm not interested in custom ROMs -- just want to be able to free up space by moving apps to the SD card so I can have more apps.

I read this guide and I installed Titanium Backup (free version) and batch backed up all my apps and system files.

Here's where I'm stuck -- I can't figure out how to partition the SD card. I turned off my phone and took the SD card out (it's the stock 2 GB card), put it in Macbook Pro's SD card slot and it comes up in the finder. I open Disk Utility, click on the SD card and click on the "partition" button. It won't let me resize the current partition. It would allow me to erase and repartition the SD card into two partitions. Is that what I want to do? This will wipe the SD card right? How do I recover the apps and files that are currently on the SD card if I do this? I don't mind buying Titanium backup Pro if that is necessary -- I just am nervous to do anything that I can't get back. I copied the Titanium backup folder to my desktop but other than that haven't done anything else.

Thanks for helping out a noob!
