Root Link2sd vs apps2sd

have apps2sd and getting the low phone memory? feeling bummed out and wish you could get a hug? well there is a guy who has hugged you and you probably don't know it. LINK2SD! i am starting this thread because over on the Shabbymod thread there is a growing amount of posts concerning this and not focusing on the ROM. so please post your concerns here and i will do my best to assist!
 
@Golono what i did was bring as many apps as i could over from the sd back to internal storage. then i went into link2sd and selected all 3 (appliction file, dalvik cache, and library) to move to sd and created link. i did that until all the apps i brought over were on the sd, then i repeated the process. there might be a better or faster way, i don't know. but after i got them all moved i then set link2sd to automatically move apps to sd and haven't looked back since. i went and tested it by downloading a few apps. it downloads, installs, gets scanned, and gets moved to sd all automatically now. hope this helps.

First of all, I'd like to thank you for creating a new forum. It is true that the Shabbymod forum was going way off-topic. New forum for link2SD has been needed for a while now. Anyway, I think my problem was I chose ext2 rather than FAT32. Should I unlink the apps, then choose FAT32?
 
i would. i couldn't get link2sd to work otherwise. i tried ext4, ext3, and ext2 (in that order ;P) and none of them worked for me. tried FAT32 and it worked. make sure that after you make the partition to reboot your phone as well.
 
I have been using ClockWork to partition my SD card. It creates an ext3 partition which can't be used. I transfer my card over to my laptop and format only the ext3 to FAT32 using Minitool Partition Wizard. (For some reason I can't get this to do anything except for formatting) Now for my questions......

1.Is there an easier way to do this? A way to do it with just one program?

2.When I posted the results for my failed attempt at using ext3 someone told me that they were using ext2. (they think....lol) Is this possible and how?

3.When I partition with CWM it asks if I want to make a swap file. What is a swap file and should I make one?

1. not that we currently know of
2. i'm using ext2, it works, i use minitool partition wizard
3. i think the swap file is for l33t nerds who do a lot of swapping between linux and windows environments, or perhaps has some other developmental use? for average joes that just want to use their phone, i'd say just skip it, it just wastes space

ok, on a computer running linux it is same as virtual memory on a windows computer, and what that means is if your computer runs out of ram memory for all the things it is doing it will use a dedicated part of the hard drive to read and write as if it were ram memory. now the problem with that is the hard drive is much slower to access then ram memory so anything in swap, or virtual memory takes more time to access and use.

ON your phone do not use a swap because if the phone sees swap it will put the oldest apps into the swap and it will take longer to get them out again. Right now if the phone runs out of ram it just closes the oldest, meaning you would just need to reopen it, which would actually take less time then calling it back from swap.

I'm using Link2SD on my ZTE Skate ( Android 2.3.5 ) since a week now.
I was quite happy with all this until I did shutdown and restard of my smartphone

After that , the second partition ( Ext4 of about 1gb ) is not mounted anymore , and of course all apps that were linked to it are unusable !
When I check in Link2SD , it says that the second partition in not mounted , it asks again for the kind of partition it is as the first time I started it.... but this time with an error message saying it can't mount the partition.

I checked and the partition is still there , and the content as well ( via a windows application that can mount a browser ext4 partitions )

Why is the mount not ok after a reboot ?
Does someone already had the case ?
What must I do to mount it properly ... and ensure it will be ok after any reboot of the phone ?

when u first used link2sd it asked which partition to use, then advised you to reboot the phone, did u reboot the phone? or was this the first time you rebooted the phone since installing link2sd?
 
I have to admit that I don't remember if I rebooted the phone after installing Link2SD...

But as I did the partitions using a microSD reader ... and have to remove the battery to get the SD , I think yes , it was rebooted

Note : Since I switched my partition to a fat32 , no problem anymore
 
So, it seems like FAT32 is the way to go, but is there a software to get this partition wizard on my macbook pro? (I have an LG Optimus V)

did u try remounting the script? edit: sorry for the late reply
