Root Liquid 3.0 Final Link Up

Formatting /system alone doesn't remove the kernel you were using or any user data however flashing a new rom would install the stock kernel on top of whatever was running previously. The ramdisk is rewritten with a rom flash and that is a major part of the kernel itself. When you flash a kernel there are also parts of the /data and /system that are rewritten, because a kernel is packaged with the rom you should see the stock kernel unless you also flashed a different one. With updates in nightlies and only a /system wipe you may not see much of a difference with the phone after you install the new nightly.
 
I guess it was coincidence that he changed to tiamat just when I did. There are some definite changes but usually a rom install tends to overwrite a lot of stuff, even a nightly. My fonts changed back, got the new reboot menu, still searching for differences. Who here knows what changed? Tell you one thing, this rom is effin' fast.

He may have but I am not sure I seem to recall seeing that JDEclipse was Liquid's kernel guy but who knows. The newer nightly's getting faster than before?
 
Did he fix the major issue that was stopping us from flashing? I was waiting to hear back from you about it never heard from you lol
 
So is the 9/18 build working? I noticed Ibrick said it was hanging using 3.5.8, which to me sounds like trouble. I am still on the earlier build that worked OK using 3.5.8. I had some lag creep in after a day or so--did a hot restart and it was ok. Had to do a hot restart today to get 4G to come back alive, too, which I guess is par for the course for AOSP.


And if he switched to Tiamat, I will need to be able to flash another kernel. I have given up on getting Tiamat to work well on my phone. Hopefully it is just until jd gets eclipse running with the second coming of smartass.

Not really. I have to get to him, today was just too busy. The Liquid settings are worth it, but I understand community feeling. I hope he comes around, it's a great rom.
 
9 18 is extremely fast. Funny my phone runs best with Tiamat. But jdo said he was putting smartass v2 in. Not sure if yest nightly had it or not. But I did flash it and it runs fine. Imo. 8 is too old.

Why is Imo 3.5.8 too old? I still have not found anything that out performs it. I run eclipse when I think I may need call recording for work, but other than that...

I am actually kind of surprised at how often the kernels are updated. I think of it as a once every few months kind of thing to patch a security hole or something.

If there was something concrete that the new kernels offered, I would be all over it...for instance, if smartass 2 is really that much better, I'll make the jump.

And if anyone has a link for the 9/18 build they would like to PM me...TIA
 
IDK, it just looks old what can I say? Naturally, if it works keep it. I still have a server with Win 2000 on it, it works, but it's old. Imo has about 3 or 4 updates since. Nonetheless, I agree with you about the quantity of updates. The longer I keep a kernel the better my phone gets. But smartass V2 is really very good, imo. I never used it, it lagged my phone. But this one is good, you should try it. Can always flash back, unlike my server. ;-)

The biggest issues is the kernels he released after 3.5.8 were not as good as 3.5.8, there is an audio fix in them but it has been ported by someone else into 3.5.8 other than that he messed with some other stuff and it had a negative effect on the battery life. Do you have any idea what the difference between smartass and smartass v2 is?

Sorry, no clue other than it's a later version and prob better at balancing performance and batt life. It's really working for me, but ymmv.
 
I will have to try it, I like the idea behind smartass governors but the current one just never performed for me as well as interactive, which the smartass governor was based on :rolleyes:. If V2 works as it is intended I may have to change my default kernel from 3.5.8 to something else.
 
The 9/18 release was sweet, BUT, it came with tiamat which my phone refuses to work with.

Ran it for about a half hour and it froze up, just like every other tiamat kernel I've tried. Tried OMFGB/Kang Bang, hung at bootscreen. So did 3.5.8 and 3.6.0.

So I'm back on the 7/14 release with 3.5.8, until a suitable kernel is available.

Liquid said he's 'busy busy' so we'll see.. I want to run this new version, but Tiamat is garbage IMO..

Why oh why did Imo have to get a charge? :(
 
Try 9 18 with eclipse nightly. It doesn't say V2 but he did say he was working on it. Or try Tiamat once more and up the voltages with Incredicontrol. It's unfortunate because V2 is sweet on my phone. As Yeahha said, original smartass never performed well for me either.
 
Yeah, whenever I try to use tiamat I get lockups. I am 99% sure it is because the kernel is undervolted way to much for my phone, but I am not composed enough to go in and change the voltage as I usually start getting bootloops when I try to run it.
 
Auto launch incredicontrol +50, save. :-) Frankly, it's one of the reasons I don't get a refurb since I can UV dramatically without reboots or freezes. My battery only goes to 85% but I'll take it. I actually thinks it's a reporting problem and not a charging issue, but that's another story for another thread.

Tiamat's kernels put me in a boot loop after the first reboot. I could deal with the reporting problem to undervolt like mad too, I remember that thread.
