Help Losing internal memory

I have noticed that my phone memory is getting smaller. I haven't added any apps or changed a thing and every day it gets lower. Today it got so low that it would not accept any incoming texts. I've moved all I can to the SD card. I've cleared any cache and data that I can see. What is eating my memory up? I have Optimus V. Thanks for any help.
 
Probably your cache is filling up your memory. Try rebooting into the recovery (hold volume down, home, and power keys when starting up - might take a couple of tries.) then wipe the cache and dalvik cache. Then reboot and see if that helps.
 
Okay, I got as far as the power/home/down volume keys and don't know how to wipe the cache. "reboot system" is highlighted. But I don't know how to get down to "Wipe cache partition". The touch function doesn't work in this mode. I'm not the sharpest crayon in the box with this stuff. Any other guidance would be appreciated.

Or you can go in to Settings>Manage Applications, go into each program and clear the cache that way...web browsing and email usually are the biggest hogs of cache. Also delete any text message threads you are no longer interested in.

Are there any apps that can do this for us?
 
In addition to clearing the cache, don't forget to clear out some data once in a while. The Facebook app, for example, is notorious for piling up data storage. Download 1Tap Cleaner from the Market. Sort by data. And you can click on each individual app for removing the data.

Some apps don't really need all that data, but keep in mind that when you clean this out, you will delete all login information, search history, settings, etc. The Facebook app, though, seems to work better with a weekly cleaning. And then you can just log back in. Works with Twitter apps too.
 
i have a motorola triumph and im losing internal memory i had 780 mb and now i have 761 and i cleared contacts and all cashes i dont know whats leaking my memory :(

If you like I can move your post to the Triumph forum where they would have a better idea of how to fix your problem.
 
MMS messages take up a ton of internal space on my phone. I now save them to SD card (if I want them) and delete them form the text conversation thread. Helps a lot.

You probably already know this liz, but for those who don't;

SMS and Multimedia messages are set to 200 each as default before the phone begins deleting the old one to make room for a new one. If you have a ton of contacts that you do text messages with then 200 per contact will add up fairly fast. You can change this in the default SMS apps settings by opening up Messaging and hitting the physical Menu button on your phone. Then tap on Settings. You'll see where you can change the 200 limit. I set mine at 10 SMS messages per contact, and 5 picture messages per contact. This should save you some space. :)
 
Which app are you using to move text messages to the SD card?

Also, clean out the stock Gallery data for a quick space fix. But next time you open the gallery, it will regenerate the thumbnails (I guess that's what it does) and re-use the space.
 
Thanks. I get so few photo/video messages I usually just delete them manually.

I do have that lower limit set though, I did that just a month or so ago.

Were you talking to me? I don't move the message, just the photo or video, if I want it. Long press and save to sd (using GoSMS).

Regular texts, particularly from my kids, get into the hundreds fast. I see no reason to keep or back up texts, they're all things like "moooooommmmmmm...can I please stay at Tara's house????"

Yeah -- I found the SMS to Text app, which will save texts to the SD card as a text file. But I know other SMS backup apps have been mentioned here. It's been so long I don't remember what the better ones are.

My wife, sister and cousin all text all day and each can get up to 150 in a day and will go back to something they said and I'm usually not paying attention so I have to look back. It would be nice to have only ten each contact. Piece and quiet. Oh getting a text lol
