Root Losing too much Battery Power While Idle.

How do you get such long battery life? what are you using? are you using setcpu( if so what are your profiles)? lol

Yes i too would like to know this information.

I'm not exactly sure what's different in the OC kernel with the hdmi fix (and probably the others), that even at 1Ghz stock setting I seem to get less battery too, even with my regular esteem optimizer tricks. I mean before this there was times I'd almost gotten 17 hours out of a single charge on a stock battery. Either way i'll find out in a few days :) The first time i really analysed all this stuff was when i first got the phone and created the app. I'll check it out at home with my linux box :), needed to make an update anyways, just ran outta possible stuff to improve lol.

Glad to see your still updating the app. Cant wait to see the next update.

Also turn off your 4G data, you can still make calls, and send and recieve txt and battery will improve also. Next thing is you can download a email widget like email widget for go launcher, and it has a refresh/update button on their that will synce your mail without have to turn on your background data, it even works for updating facebook also if you have the widget added to your screen.

Hey guys, made a little discovery.

I know the sensor driver /system/bin/akmd2 is responsible for constant 2-5% battery drain when idle, it's constant. My app reduces this with the chuck norris setting, So what is constantly using it you ask? well, screen auto-rotate enabled :) Disable it an that goes down to zero. I'm trying it disabled (it's in the settings\display). In theory i should get at least 1/2 hour to an extra hour+. You guys can try it disabled as well and let me know. I was gonna add stopping and starting it in my app, but hey, it's in the settings so. :D

system_server (Android System) takes up the rest when idling.
I'm looking if anyone know how to split up that group (
because it's actually the following:
Code:
com.lge.internal
com.lge.sui.widget
Status Bar
com.android.DunServer
Application Manager
VPN Services
Account and Sync Settings
Voice Recorder
LG Hidden Menu
Autorun
com.lge.model
SIM Toolkit
com.lge.appwidgetpicker
USB connectivity Test
Android System
Settings Storage
Settings
Camera
)

I've seen phones where android system does not exist, they are not grouped together and we can get individual battery stats. Those phones usually say Android OS, then list all apps separately.

If anyone has info let me know. One of those apps is the other 50% of the idle battery drain. It's responsible for keeping the phone awake internally as well. In my case 12m 29secs today. That doesn't sound like a lot, but it is by comparison if your phone can be in sleep/low power mode instead.

I've found something else.. ditch swype. It' spikes about 30%+/- cpu just moving your fingers. vs. Swiftkey using 5 or less.

Haven't tried lol but if you swype your finger and it has to spell things its gotta be more intensive than regular keys.

Okay, I just took off swype.. what else can I do to save battery? I just want to last 16+ hours with normal usage with stock battery.

I've been at this all day finding little things here and there.

The 2 you can do are:
1)replace swype keyboard with a simpler one
2)Disable screen auto-rotation in settings\display (this doesn't matter for games anyways i think, so it's all good for sideways apps.)

I've actually found some other stuff under the hood that i'm testing out right now to confirm it working.

So far up to 94% @ 54Mins light usage. :D So using my little formulas, i'd guess It will last about 14 hours overclocked @1.2Ghz with normal use. When my battery runs out i'll post the results and update my optimizer app with a new page for Plague Kernel/Gingersteem specific tweaks.

This looks much better so far than the crummy 8ish hours after the really nice roms.

I ditched Swype, turn off animations and turn off the auto brightness feature and get around 5-51/2 hours on stock battery with heavy use oc'd at 1.7 max 368 min. I noticed while in "shadowed" areas when on auto the brightness dims and brightens a lot and effects the battery

+1 to kanaida and shiny's previous 2 posts.. Auto brightness can kill the battery.. Didn't know about the benefit of auto rotate off but definitely helps.. Can't give up Swype so auto rotate don't bother me :)

Hey kanaida with an extended battery and those things you talked about I can maybe last 24 hours under medium use.

Hey I have a HUGE challenge for you regarding battery life.

I want to be able to have the brightness of the screen all the way up, ALL the way up, and it not kill the battery as bad. :D I like how vibrant the colors are when turned all the way up but hate the effect it has on the battery. So...... work some magic ;):D

Well so far I'm around 12 +/- hours. So it's about 4ish more hours. So overclocking even to 1.2 does impact battery quite a bit, 1.7 and you go from a Honda to a hummer lol

overclocking to 1.2 is something I'll never do. I use PG's kernel because I wanted a phone that could handle everything I gave it and its done that. If I'm going to scale the cpu down it'll be all the way down, with the data off, auto sync off, etc.
Today I got rid of adw launcher and switched to 360 from XDA(thanks to twistedriku over in another thread). Before today I was getting pretty much the same results as Shiny but I have been at 1.9 and I tether ALOT. So 5 hours was good for me. 360 launcher comes with a bunch of good apps to save battery power, and guard your phone. Today I had 12 hours of battery life with 1.9, and a setcpu profile scaled all the way down when the screen was off. Thats the best I've had with this phone since I've gotten it.
Here's the link to anyone that wants 360 launcher, their battery app, and phone gaurd:

I bought this phone because its the best phone that is out for metro and I'm going to use it to fullest capabilities. No offense to anyone, but I dont see why people buy this phone and turn it off, dont download any apps, just use stuff like facebook, etc. I paid good money for this phone so why not use it for what it was made for? Again, its just my opinion.

not that I'm complaining but my battery went from 68% to 71% so it's going up instead of down ? lol anyone ever experience this ? I've also drop my CPU from 1.6 to 1.2 with all animations off and stopping certain Apps from auto start. there's not much difference at all. phone is still fast.

even with all animations on. also remove boot sound kinda annoying. now i can play ShawdowGun. The only Game that reboots after playing for a bit. with no reboots at all.

this will happen when you stop a bunch of task and drop the cpu down. Computers do this too, infact my acer does it all the time on my crunchbang linux OS. I think the phones just average your battery percentage and it tries to predict what your phone is at depending on your usage.

First thing to check is that your phone is properly entering Deep Sleep mode. With the basic Battery Usage tool in Settings->About Phone->Battery Usage, tap the top graph to see more details. Then at the bottom there is a line that shows your 'Awake' time. If it is solid blue, then you've got a major battery drain issue (something is keeping the phone from sleeping at all). Beyond that, you'll need to see if the amount of awake time matches up to your usage or if it is waking up for long periods of time even when you've not been using it.

BetterBatteryStats app is very helpful in determining what apps are causing your wakelock issues (i.e. not letting your phone go into Deep Sleep mode).

CPU Spy app is very helpful in determining how your kernel is managing your clock speeds and how often the phone is sleeping vs idling at min clock speed.

or maybe the phone overheated and causing issues making you lose fast. my battery dies in a heart beat ( and i have extended 3500 mah) because just once i had it in my pocket. even though it was off but it was a 2 hr trip and since that day. my connecting to usb dont work and if phone reboots. like 10% goes. sucks. but still love phone =]

It gets more complicated lol if your cpu is running at say 245mhz @ 100% cpu, does it eat the same battery as 1ghz using 25% cpu? This is what I'm writing a new app to find out :) plus lots of other goodies. Some apps try but those guys don't seem to take many factors into consideration like bad drivers, certain settings enabled/disabled, and kernel values etc... I've gotten really good at it so I'm giving it a shot.

There seems to be a battery drain issue when the screen is off. The is a constant 70ma
battery drain reported from the Battery Monitor Widget. It seems to be a kernel related issue. Checking logcat with the phone screeen off there seems to be a constant polling for the nework when the phone is suppose to be in deep sleep mode. I had an HTC Leo before and the drain was at 2ma when the screen was off...Anybody have any ideas

If you disable auto brightness and auto rotate, as well as background data is the drain any different?

Yup. The drain is slightly better. As you use the phone more it gets better and better with those settings disable.

i think its the over heat that caused it to my phone. before then i was getting around 12hrs on the regular battery with the same everything it has now. or maybe the phone just goes bad after a while since so many people having the issue.

I'm gonna flash the stock kernel back.. Pg's is tuned greatly for speed, but since the rom makes it faster anyways ill stick with 1ghz and 17hour battery life instead. It's more useful to me to keep it alive longer than play games smoother.

If the phone was off there is no way you caused it to overheat from being in your pocket, unless you have an actual oven in there. Modern CPUs can get over 100c (internal) before they go into thermal protection mode, and that's when they're running. In other words your pants would have caught fire and you'd have third degree burns on your leg if your pocket was anywhere near hot enough to damage the phone.
