In order to remove system apps you will have to root your phone. I recommend doing some research on what rooting and exactly what it does if you do not know already.

Once rooted I *think* you can use an app called Titanium Backup. Not sure as i do not use it.

Once rooted you can also delete them via terminal emulator. Instructions can be found here: Android Ally

Look in the Removing System APK's section. That section also has a link to which apk's are safe to remove.

Just a side note do not remove Google voice app's or Google Talk as if they are removed they will break things. x)

One thing to keep in mind, uninstalling apps built into ROM like City ID and Amazon Shop WILL NOT free up any more RAM for installing other programs.

I don't believe that is a true statement at all. In fact, deleting any app does free up the space it uses when it is deleted properly. The key is to have a custom recovery installed and to clear the cache and dalvik cache.

Yes, those apps' space taken in the dalvik cache (/data/dalvik-cache) can be freed up, and since it's on /data, you can gain space for installing others.

Would the same amount of space be cleared up just by wiping the dalvik cache and not uninstalling the programs included in the phones ROM? Just wondering, I'm kind of new to this.

I uninstalled CITY ID, Amazon Store Front, Amazon Music Front, and Skype but didn't see a increase in available RAM to install programs. Then I did a wipe of the dalvik cache and gained about 40MB.

Are you wiping the Dalvik cache like the same way it is done during the installation of Clockwork Recovery after rooting? I am interested in removing some default apps but haven't tried it yet.

I removed the apps with Titanium Backup Pro from the market and then used the "Clean up the Dalvik cache" option in Titanium Backup Pro.

Yes, but only temporarily. These apps would populate the dalvik cache again.

Ive noticed that by "freezing" unused apps in titanium backup helps. I also use an app from the market that cleans cache, that has also seemed to help. Uninstalling unused apps are a help but make sure you dont uninstall system apps or you will end up with a few headaches.

I rooted mostly because of the low space messages I had been getting. I wanted to utilize A2SD to move my non-system apps to the SD card. Having done both procedures I no longer see any mention of low space, so at this point I have not removed any of the 'bloatware' that comes with the phone. Is there anything else to be gained by shedding some of those unwanted apps aside from making more space in the internal ROM? Does removing them improve the overall performance of the stock VZC rom?
