Help Maps re-enables itself

I really hope someone can help me out with this, i have searched and can't find anyone who has the issue.

I've been told to disable maps as a quick fix for excessive battery drainage. So i've disabled maps (after uninstalling the updates) and after a while it would be enabled on its own again. I went to the market to disable "auto update apps" just in case it was being updated automatically and just being re-enabled whenever its updated. since then i've disabled Maps again and it has re-enabled itself again. Anyone have this issue?

By "re-enabled", do you mean re-appearing in the recent apps menu? If so, all you have to do is open maps, then close it and it shouldn't show up again. I've seen a few threads on this and it's a known issue. I haven't had any issues with it affecting battery though.

No not necesarrily stopping the process, but fully disabling the application "Maps" if you go into settings>apps>all>Maps>uninstall updates(first)>Disable

^^^ that should completely disable an app and not allow it to start up again at all.

Maps hasn't been a problem with battery drain for me. Yes, location services seem to be constantly active and so does the stupid traffic widget update....but I don't see anything to indicate it is a battery drain. Nonetheless, it is unnecessary and annoying. I'm pretty sure there are a couple of code reports (I think I may have started one myself!)

i actually heard something about the network location process always running even if all of the location settings were turned off so i actually disabled it completely through the apps>all>location service>disable

to be honest, i haven't noticed any battery improvement after disabling it.

I just had a similar issue... maps was in running processes (as NetworkLocationService) both under a Maps entry and under Google Services entry. Killing either process did nothing as it just started back up. I ended up enabling and then disabling all location services (only gps was enabled), then rebooting the phone. I also uninstalled accuweather, which seems to pop up in the background unwelcome often, so maybe related, maybe not as I had just installed it over the weekend.

I also was using maps quite a bit over the past few days. Interestingly the phone was kept awake all night last night by the phone app... maybe related, maybe not.

Maps has not reappeared since the last reboot 30 min ago, and awake times are back to normal.
