Maybe this is why Samsung doesnt give a ...

And yet, if something is advertized as a feature, it really should actually work.

"Congratulations, Mr. Smith, surgery was successful, and your new Samsung pacemaker is woking as advertized. Uh, Mr. Smith? Oops."

I don't think thats a fair comparison.

Seeing as the phone does work.

I do think the GPS should work.

I also think that people like to complain when they are given the slightest amount of power to do so.

I generally know where I am at, and love Google Maps. I have never needed a GPS to tell me exactly where I am or that I need to turn in 25'. To me the GPS is more of a toy. If it works to within 50 or 100', then your weather will work. So, the GPS issue is really a stretch as far as a complaint about this amazing device.

Just because you don't use an advertised and touted feature of a device doesn't legitimize the complaints of others who do who are upset that it doesn't work as-advertised.

These are "smartphones". They have GPS. It's a necessary component for a myriad of valuable and marketed location-aware apps, such as navigation and travel tips. The GPS technology being used has been several-times more-accurate for years than what we're seeing in the Captivate. People are throwing away cell phones with better GPS than this phone which is supposed to be AT&T's flagship Android phone. Samsung screwed up, plain and simple. The subset of owners who don't use GPS don't change that.

We're not talking about being off 50-100'. We're talking being off by blocks... which makes anything beyond weather forecasts useless.

@Sremick

I do agree with you.

Sadly, we don't hear how it affects people very often.

We just hear that there is in fact a problem.

And it gets very easy to read it as "so guys, I went to use my gps for the first time and only time I will use it having the phone"

Not trying to belittle people's situation mind you or say it doesn't matter.

More there is a right way and wrong way to do it.

People seem to think if they are madder the company somehow cares more.

Speaking first hand at people who have yelled at me thinking it would somehow change my mind.

Sadly, The people who yell and scream never get to do it at the guys who actually have the power to do something.

If someone wants to start listing some CEO's emails.. Feel free.
