Help "Message not sent" error, driving me crazy.

I went to txt someone today, and for what ever reason, the message failed to send, and I received the "Message not sent" notification. I tried again, and the message was sent. Now every time I send, or receive a message that notification pops up. "Message not sent - Select to review the message and try again" and when I open the error message, it triggers another to appear. "Undelivered message - Unable to Deliver this message" even though all the txts have been confirmed to go through. This is driving me crazy, any one have any thoughts? It even gives me the message when I open an old txt that I have already read.

I had same problem using handcent twice before. Had to uninstall and reload it to fix the problem. The last version I installed has advertisements in it

I use the stock messaging system. The phone is unrooted and has nothing added to the sms system. I power cycled it, and pulled the battery, and it is still doing it... I want to avoid wiping the phone.

I have been getting the same notification.
even though everything seems to be working fine.

AND I just installed the 2.1 update. but the "message not sent"
still shows up.

Has anyone found a fix yet?

This doesn't seem to be attached to any thread.
Non the less. I have already tried deleting all my threads

still comes right back!

I am having this error too! I have deleted all threads, powered off the phone, and it comes right back. Driving me crazy!

I recently started having this issue as well. Can't seem to find a solution anywhere. I've done everything everyone else has done here to try to fix the problem, but no luck. It started happening shortly after I had initially texted someone and it DID fail to send the message, and I discarded the message because it wasn't important. Now every time I open an existing thread or try to start a new one, the "Message not sent" notification pops up. If I "Select it to review it and try again" and I'm in an existing thread, it will change the 'To' field in that thread to be empty, though all messages sent and received in the thread will still exist (this does not delete or change the existing thread in any way, it just clears out who messages are being sent to in the thread). If I "Select it to review it and try again" and I'm not in any thread, it will bring up a blank thread as if you'd selected to compose a new message. In both occurrences, it will give the "Undelivered message. Unable to send this message." warning, and then put the "Message not sent" notification back up in the Notifications panel. If you keep selecting it, it will keep putting the notification back in the menu. If you clear all notifications, it will reappear anytime a thread is opened (really annoying when you are just receiving and checking a text). All texting operations (sending and receiving) seem to be working just fine. You CAN prevent it by going into your message settings and unchecking the “Display message notifications in status bar,” but then you also don’t get the useful notifications when you receive new texts…
Any help on a solution would be greatly appreciated. I’d rather not have to completely reboot my phone. Thanks.

Not saying that this is the problem you're having, and not trying to be too simplistic, but when I got the "Message not sent" notification it was because I had a crappy cell connection. I walked about 50 yards from where I was, tried it again, and it went through immediately.

Yeah, it's a weird error. There is no issue with reception, as it continues to happen even when I'm not even trying to send or receive anything. Just simply going into a thread or selecting the error notification is enough to cause it to reoccur. I'm just as confused about it as anyone else.

I think it is just problems with mms messages and when you lose 3g. Happens to me a bit cause I travel alot. Just press on the notification and it will let u resend. Hope this helps.

I do not think it has anything to do with the loss of 3G...I've cut and pasted what is happening from earlier posts in this thread for "ease" of reading...

I've had this happen to me a few times. The only way around it that worked for me, was not resending the unsent message, but just sending a new one.

@jmims I think we are talking about different things.

"Message not sent - Select to review the message and try again" and when I open the error message, it triggers another to appear. "Undelivered message - Unable to Deliver this message" even though all the txts have been confirmed to go through.

Even when clearing the notifications, once I open the messaging app (standard droid app) I will get the above message with a blank non-deletable empty message. This is also accompanied with an explanation mark up at the top left of the screen.

But does your issue go away? I always have this issue. I cannot get rid of it. I can clear the notification bar. But once I get a text or want to send a text it comes back.

I've been reading these forums for a long time now, and only just joined because I'm having this texting problem. It randomly will refuse to send text messages, never to any particular person, at any particular time, with full 3G reception. Additionally, I use the standard SMS app. Deleting the threads doesn't help, and no matter how many times I resend the message, I always get the same error.

The only thing that actually corrects the problem is shutting off the phone, restarting, and trying to send again. That works every time, but for whatever reason the problem always seems to come back.

I am also facing this same error now and rebooting the phone does not help.

Does anyone have any solutions for it?

This is my problem also on a stock Captivate with the stock messaging app. A notification any time I send or receive a message which takes me to an empty, "unsent" message. Any solutions developed in the last month? I apologize for resurrecting an old thread, but I did search. ;)

Don't. I did, and it doesn't help at all. Wasn't worth starting from scratch. I don't have any other advice about fixing the problem. I still have the same problem.

yeah ive had the problem...too as everyone else... I think its probally just the 3g.. eventually the message does go through after a little bit... only onther thank i can suggest and i did this, dial *228 on the phone hit send and then go with option 2 and this will update your phone to the cell towers.. i do that every month now and i have not had the problem since.

This error occurs if you send a message to a telephone number that doesn't support SMS, e.g. if you try to send a message to a landline telephone number.

I started having the same problem a few days ago. I called T-mobile and they said it was because I had an old SIM card. I went to T-mobile and got a new SIM card (no I didn't have to pay for it). Turned the phone on... still there. So they did a master reboot... that worked... until tonight when it started doing it again.

So basically changing SIM cards and Master Reboots don't work either!
So don't waste your time and the hassle of having to re-customize your phone! :(

I am going to call T-mobile in the morning and see if they have any other ideas...
