Metro Just pushed a firmware ans OS update

Does anyone out there that has the LG Motion get the 4GLTE to display on their phone? My phone only displays 4G for data but the specs for this phone indicate that the phone is 4GLTE compatible. Also we are on a 4GLTE network with metro PCS.

This phone only has 4G LTE, 3G and 1x. If it says 4G, you are on 4G LTE.

+1 what Sammy said. To piggy-back off that, when you are on 3G, it'll say EV (for EVDO).

I don't know if this is sheer coincidence but after this update, today, for the first time ever, I am able to get a signal and connection on the Boston subway system while on a train in a tunnel. I never had a signal, even when standing on platforms underground never mind a train. So I'm happy, coincidence or not.

I was telling a buddy of mine that is a huge Andriod fan about your response and this is what he had to said. Why would LG make a phone that shows 4G when it actually means 4GLTE?!? If it's 4G, it's 4G. If it's 4G LTE, it should display 4G LTE. I guess it's easy enough to verify. Just look in your manual.

It is LTE. That's just how LG programmed it. Or, how Metro wanted it, but there's no real way of determining that.

I'm hyper-paranoid about updating since I have had fantastic success tethering my Nexus tablet to my motion every day for a long while (using PDANet+). I'm wondering if this update will hose that ability.

It won't.
With that said how do u know if u're getting 4G or 4GLTE? I guess you dont really know.
The hardware specs says it only has a 4G LTE radio, it does not have a 4G radio (HSPA/HSPA+)
As was said earlier, the motion ONLY has LTE. If it shows the 4G symbol you are getting LTE.
+1

Learning. When I hear that carrier X pushed the update, I thought I'd have to be on carrier X's plan.

Well, the same phone on a different carrier gets a different update or even no update. It's completely based on the phone itself, not the carrier. If you have a T-Mobile phone on MetroPCS, it will still receive the T-Mobile branded update. If you have a phone that only exists for one carrier, but you put it on another carrier, it will still receive the update via data/WiFi.
Just pretend your phone is a Windows computer. A Windows computer will only install updates for that version of Windows. Windows XP will only install XP updates, Vista will only install Vista updates, etc. It doesn't matter who provides the internet connection, you get the same updates for each version of Windows on every computer running that version of Windows.

I received the update yesterday. I can confirm the Metro Easy Wi-Fi app has been removed, along with the notification icon that appears on the left side of the status bar.

But there was a BIG CHANGE in the 4G speeds! The usual speeds were 4-5Mbps download and 5Mbps upload. Now they are 45Mbps download and 20Mbps upload. It was a trip to watch the Speedtest needle slam against the end of the 20Mbps dial, when download speed was 45Mbps!

Metro possibly made the switch to the T-Mobile 4G network.

.

This is what one guy told me on Metro page on fb:

• The motion will not say lte unless you root it and put a different rom on it, it's running metros cdma 4g which is thier lte. My s3 was the same until I rooted it, then it said lte from th the rom I put on it.

Ignore this question. I already answered it. The speed test app is one and the same. Can be used to test speed for Wifi or data
