The phones are only instore exclusive for the markets that have the byod available.. They are cheap.

Yeah same three we talked about well that's a start of many more things to come next month will be interesting

How'd you find that? I'm in the Dallas area and am looking at Metro's site but can't find those phones.

Edit 2: 'Course, I still can't find the price list of the GSM phones.
 
I was checking out the FAQ on the BYOD Metro page and came across this
Once I have my MetroPCS SIM Card can I change my mind about which phone I use it with?

Once you have received your activated MetroPCS SIM Card, you can put it in any compatible, unlocked GSM phone you choose. However, the phone must accept the type of SIM Card you have activated (Standard, Micro or Nano). Please keep in mind that you will need to see a store to pair the SIM with the device.

This is not how I remember GSM fron the days I had ATT. There was no need to visit a store.:confused:

Do you think it might have something to do with apn set up? Maybe the stores go in and set up the apn for use on Metro. The only time I've dealt with transferring a SIM card to a new phone was with old dumb phones that didn't have internet so I don't think they use apns, but I could be wrong.
 
Well, right on the surface is seems like a "control" issue. Metro's good for putting limits on things they think they need to (In store only, etc).

Seems they may want to Be Sure of what device the Sim is going into and maybe making note of that in your records. Maybe to stop the Sims from getting tried in phones they don't want them in?

Goes back our discussion about there having to be something to differentiate tmobile from mpcs and locking the phone to your account.



Is it even possible to do that?
 
More than likely they want you to bring the phone in because I'm sure they don't want people to use Tmobile phones with bad IMEI numbers on Metro..and right now the only way to check it would be with a manual scan with the phone in person..otherwise, if the phone is unlocked they have no way of finding out.

It will, but perhaps they have not got the software up and running that can scan the imei over the network yet.

Not that it makes a difference, you could easily buy the $40 phone activate it in store and then take it home pull the sim and put it in a different phone.

Though if it has a blacklisted imei sooner or later it will get kicked.

Since its running off tmobiles network once the IMEI lights up itll just kick you off like it dos with other MVNO's

Yes that could take a couple days to do probably.
For those that want to use the sim, in a good imei phone but dont want to have the hassle of metro( not to mention the charge I am sure they will come up with) I hope to see a t mobile type set up, buy the sim on line and activate online or over the phone.:D
 
whose to say if a friend of mine that owns his own metropcs authrorized dealer in detroit were to ...let say send me a metro gsm sim card and i oh dont know perhaps take a unlocked t-mobile note 2 and try to activate it myself and it works? "whistles" dont every1 rush to get a unlocked phone yet :D
 
I have carefully noted that we have ONE report of a new phone/new network.

Right now he's got no bars of nothing.

(AGAIN, the words Drop back 10 and punt come to mind.)
