Root [MetroPCS/CDMA] A firmware update was just released.. 2.99 mb big, wtf???

After a failed OTA I Just got mine to work via Kies. Heres what I did.

1) Used the SuperSU app to do the full unroot option.

2) Rebooted then made sure it was unrooted using root checker.

3) Connected with Kies to PC and saw Firmware update available.

4) Started update, Waited for it to run its process and it worked.

5) After it was done I showed normal status in settings. I then rerooted with debugfs, reinstalled SuperSu, then uninstalled superuser. I prefer SuperSU.

6) Then went into goomanager app to reinstall current TWRP. Im now good to go with update, root, and TWRP!!

To Shabby, if you still need them what files do you need? And how can I get them to you so you can make the zip you mentioned.

i m not so sure about JB and this phone yet. I tried two SGS3, i think both Tmobile version, with JB and they become unstable and very laggy after some time.
On 1 month that i m running my phone on ICS i have no problems so far....

I dont want to update as soon it comes out i wanna read about other users and then I ll see what to do...

so again... can i avoid the update reminder??

Heres some instructions on what can be done to disable it. Its for the T-Mobile version but Im pretty sure it will work.

Solution:
Step 1. Delete the update located in /cache/fota/ and then click the update notification prompt to install it, it will instantly fail and the notification will disappear.
Step 2. Disable Otacerts.zip located in /etc/security by renaming it to otacerts.zip.bak
Step 3. Disable FotaClient.apk and FWUpgrade.apk by renaming with .bak extensions located in /system/app/
Step 4. Reboot

FWUpgrade.apk may be the only file you need to disable to prevent future notifications, but I disable all just in case.
 
I flashed the counter reset zip.. then restored my stock image that i made with cwm before install any rom then installed stock twrp with odin i did the ota update and everything worked well ..my status still say modified ..but I did not see any difference .. so I went back to cm10.1
 
Ok i had to restore all the bloatware i removed because the damn update kept failing because it was looking for these files that i removed so i put them back and bam i got my update

ofcourse u can just dont update, people in here hear and see something about an update and they all start a frenzy like " I MUST HAVE THAT UPDATE!!!" but dont even know whats its for lol me and shabby havnt even bothered with this update for me its a useless one since most of us are on some sort of aosp rom and not on stock and its a 3mb file that merely fixes a gps bug and updates your kernel to one that should of been given to us long ago..... so in conclusion if this is how you guys get for a small update i cant imagine how its going to be when jellybean is finally released wow......shabby its gonna be like black friday in here and at metro's facebook total chaos!!!

I'm not going no where now that i have everything working on Morph. only update I'm waiting to check out is next kingkang...if it ain't broke don't fix it :-)

oh i understand that but there's passion and there's insanity lol and i hate to get out of topic but let me say this real quick, for us that were born around the 80s and lived through that era along with early 90s you guys remember the new kids on the block ya remember how girls used to cry for no reason just to see them perform well yea most of ya in here are kinda like that.

Lol true. But some people just want there devices to work properly . Dont think any1 new that getting ota updates would malfunction like they are. But there are always ways around these things and so much to choose from when it comes to roms and kernels that getting these updates really dont mean shit if you can just flash something better.
 
Haven't seen anyone having issue with stock ICS yet, my only reason to even concern myself with a official jb update is to just have a collection of stock tw ROMs and aosp ROMs.. I have them all in twrp recovery and I can switch to any ROM I desire when I desire ;) that my friend is one of many perks we have with android unlike apple :D

Well I was born in the 70s, and actually hated the new kids. But I get your point. Im in no hurry, and you can tell from my sig Im no JB fanatic. But I do understand people being anxious to keep current.
 
Forget stock go with what works best, and that is custom Rom although stock has some cool feature. But thats just me I guess. :p
 
Well I finally got it to work. Samsung Kies did the trick. Status still modified but idc. Apparently you guys had a thread about getting the flash count to zero. My dumb ass jist seen it last night hahaha Thats cool though that we can use odin to reset the flash count and go back to stock. But im good for now and happy. Thanks guys for the help.

you old man :D jk oh no they should be excited but not black friday excited thats all i mean lol. have ya seen metro's facebook omg ive seen people flame and rant about leaving metro unless they get that update thats what im calling epic. to be honest what nuttmeg said im with him 100% our roms on 4.1.2 and 4.2.1 are way more productive and and more efficient than stock but there comes a time where i just want to use touch wiz features.... dunno perhaps what we need is a rom that comes with touch wiz stuff? satisfy both worlds? lol hes watching what i type hes gonna hate me if any1 ya start to call him to make such a rom ya know of whom i speak of :D lets leave him alone hes been up all night drinking mountain dew and has achieved several new ranks on call of duty black ops 2 and is a lil sensitive about losing to a clan war on halo :D

I see your point though, people threatening to leave over JB is ridiculous. If they are willing to pay the higher prices of carriers that have JB already they should just switch. Im not at all surprised that we are one of the last. Look at it this way, we just got the S3 a few months ago, so how can me expect to have JB already? Now it makes sense to me why Metro hasnt helped me in awhile on FB since I asked for help with a legit issue. They are busy trying to appease all the JB complainers.

And speaking of a custom rom with Touchwiz Im not trying to ask anyone to make one, but that is EXACTLY why I keep going back to stock after trying the available custom roms. There will always be a TW feature I miss. So who knows maybe someday, but I will say this. Anyone on this forum or any other forum that "demands" a rom, or some feature, and causes the devs to feel like they need to rush needs to chill. We should all be thankful that our rare Metro S3 is getting so much love already. So from me to the devs that can do what I and a lot of us cant, thank you. And take your time. Mountain Dew is great, but dont OD on the stuff for our sakes!! :D But by all means OD on the stuff to own the noobs on COD and Halo. LOL.
