Root Milestone Audio Equalizer [BETA]

hrm, I have a bluetooth headset just collecting dust. I haven't tested it with the equalizer enabled. let me know how it turns out.

Any updates on this? How it's working? Would love to have a EQ on my Droid....

I really wanted to use this but never was able to figure out how to get it running without messing up my bluetooth. I have since given up and it seems that others have also lost interest.

I believe what is necessary is to rebuild the kernel using the sound source code from the milestone, and creating the /dev/audio device node. The reason why the bugs are there is because the system is looking for a specific audio driver which doesn't exist on the droid, and thus skips the audio routing step. If someone is willing to do that, let me know. Maybe we'll be able to get this up and running then.

A similar problem is happening with the FMRadio app. I have the app able to tune the radio stations, but because that audio driver is missing, it can't route the audio correctly and no sound comes out. Of course this problem is a bit more difficult because loading the libaudio.so from the xt800 isn't as easy, and I haven't completely figured it out yet.

heh - on the fly kernel compiling on the DROID - that would be awesome.

Similar to what I had to do with FC2/3 to get audio working on my old P4 machine.

Problem is, how do we accomplish this, daikonv?

Download the Droid kernel source from android.git.kernel.com and then go to Motorola's teamforge website and download the milestone kernel source. Incorporate the changes from the /sound folder into the Droid kernel source and make sure the /dev/audio device node gets made and then build.

wow. And then getting all that merged with a kernel that also supports OCing...

I think Ill pass for today. Tomorrow is a furlough for state employees, so I'll ahve more time to look into it tomorrow.

Hmm, I'll try this later today. I don't have an issue with following the instructions; I just don't want to do it with every ROM I apply. It needs to find its way into Bugless Beast.

I've been waiting for an EQ since the Droid came out though; my SR80i has great mids, but the highs could be toned down a little. :)

Just a quick update on this topic.
I am running Simply Stunning 2.0.2 ESE53 with Adamz's low voltage kernel.
It appears that the in-call audio level adjusting DOES work- both with the regular speaker (headset) and while on speaker-phone. I tested it out several times by calling myself (from the cell phone itself and from a landline) and calling other people and other people calling me. (Yeah, I know thats alot, but just wanted to cover all bases)
So not only does the indicator change, but the actual volume level changes as well.
Not sure about the BT functionality as I rarely/never use it. So for me at least, all seems to be working well.
I think the OP was before any of the 2.1 ROMs (ERE25 & ESE53) came out. Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but most likely it does.
Hopefully any of you who have 2.1 ROMs can re-try this and see if it works for you as well.
Worked on stock player, Pandora and '3' (Cubed).

I used Root Explorer to copy/paste/backup all used files.
A quick note, if I simply re-named the files currently in the system/bin and system/lib to /filename.so.bak.../ap_gain.bin.bak...etc etc (meaning leaving the current files in the folders, just essentially backing them up..) and then pasted the new audio files into their respective place...I would get stuck on the "M" during a reboot. There was no way around it. Ended up doing a nandroid restore.
BUT...if I just deleted them, then pasted the new files...everything worked well.

Quickly ran out to my car and listened to the new sound on my car system.....and.... I'm impressed!
Would be really cool to have a base equalizer with say...10 frequency bands....with sliders to even fine tune more...but what I have now is definitely better than stock!

Good luck!

I guess it don't work with BB 0.8. Installed it and lost sound in the headphone jack completely. It would only play through the speaker. Nandroid restore, here I come.

i've uploaded new files to push to the phone which should make the equalizer work with the ese53 builds. the same bugs might still exist which were present in the 2.0.1 roms.

It is good to see that this hasn't been abandoned. Any luck with Koush's builds and has the problem with bluetooth been addressed?

Thanks!

I would like to try this, but a non-functioning speaker phone would be a deal breaker for me. If I reversed all the file changes or restored a nandroid backup would that put it back to stock if I didn't like it?

EDIT: After re-reading it this seems like a pretty stupid and unnecessary question. The answer must be yes.

I think people have lost interest although it would be great if they finally got it working. I've looked high and low and found nothing.

Someone needs to make a GScript of this procedure. Should be fairly straightforward. I might have at it next weekend, far too many important exams coming up. (So what am I doing here? Yeah yeah, I know...) ;)
